3 chapter 3

After the incident with Jackson, Allison went with Lydia and I went with Jackson to the locker room. Honestly, I was a little nervous, but also determined to wipe a smile off Jackson's face on the lacrosse field.

"You better not be sorry, Cole," Jackson said as we entered the locker room, which was already full of players.

"Relax, 'captain,' I'm super calm. It's you who seems nervous, worried that a rookie is going to finish you off," I spoke, emphasizing the word "captain."

I could tell he was visibly worried. This reminds me that he suffered from emotional and mental problems, such as unrealistic self-imposed expectations, which caused him to lose control easily when he did not achieve the results he set for himself.

"I'm going to love to wipe that smile off your face," Jackson threatened.

I looked around and saw that Scott and Stiles were also present. Someone patted my shoulder, I turned to see who it was, and it was Coach Finstock. He smiled and handed me some equipment, saying, "Welcome to the team, Cole.

I took a few deep breaths and started to change. I was impressed with the physique I have now, according to the memories I have. I am really very fast, based on my memory. My fastest time in the 100 meters is 10.88 seconds, which is very impressive considering my age.

As I prepared for the training session, I observed my surroundings. Everyone seemed very focused and determined, which made me even more motivated not to let Jackson embarrass me during the training.

The adrenaline started coursing through my veins, and I really love this feeling.

After putting on the protective gear, I headed out onto the field. I saw Allison and Lydia in the stands. They waved at me and I raised my hand. A guy came towards me and I turned towards him. He said, "Hey, man.

I said "Hi.

He smiled and said, "I'm Danny, I'm the goalie, and Jackson asked me to give you the basics."

I shook my head and said, "Really?" I couldn't help but ask.

"I know it's hard to believe, but he said something about not wanting you to keep making excuses after he's done with you."

I should have expected something like this. Jackson really is a jerk.

Danny began to explain the basics of the game, and it was really very easy to understand. I quickly understood what he was explaining and demonstrating. I suppose I am quite talented, and another thing I realized is that I have an easy time understanding things. Maybe this is a result of having two souls in one body.

He asked me: "Do you understand?

I shook my head and said, "Yes, I think I understand the basics. Thank you."

He smiled and said, "No problem, I'm sincerely impressed. Even though you obviously have no lacrosse experience, you learned the basics very quickly. Who knows, maybe you'll have a chance against Jackson."

I simply smiled and nodded, moving toward Jackson. "What's up, 'Captain', are you ready or are you going to quit while there's still time?"

"Let's get it over with, Cole," he spoke as he picked up a larger stick, which was probably used by the defensive players.

"So, how are we going to do that?"

"It's simple, I'm going to defend, and you have to try to get past me and hit the goal. Pretty easy to understand, isn't it? Even someone like you should be able to understand that," he said with a lot of sarcasm in his voice.

After that he walked a few meters away. I'm thinking about what would be the best strategy to win, knowing that I have the advantage in speed.

With this in mind, I started running at top speed, and before he had a chance to react, I had passed him.

Then I was careful not to miss my shot, because that would be a shame.

After I scored, I told him: "You were right, it is really very simple.

"Don't think too much of yourself, I just got sloppy. It won't happen again.

This time, when I accelerated, he took two steps back to avoid losing his defensive position. But instead of continuing to accelerate, I slowed down when Jackson took a step forward. I simply increased speed again, passing him again.

And so we continued to play for 10 rounds. In the end, the result was a draw. This may seem like a good result, but I scored 3 times in a row using speed changes along with direction changes. In general, it all depends on my speed after he got used to my style of play.

That's when all hell broke loose. I'm sure he made sure to hit me in the ways that hurt the most. I was a little lucky to hit the other two goals. If we had kept playing, I am sure he would have destroyed me.

Fortunately, the coach had everyone gather around. You could see Jackson's frustration. He was clearly not satisfied with this result.

"McCall! On goal! Let's go!"

I walked over to the guys who were on the field and started stretching to relieve some of the pain I was feeling. We formed a line and were about to practice throwing. I was at the end of the line. I saw Scott heading towards the goal.

After a few seconds, I finally heard the whistle, and then I saw that Scott was lying on the ground, and everybody was laughing at him. I thought it must be horrible to have super senses if you don't know how to control them.

Soon, he stood up and relaxed his shoulders, and another guy went for it. But he took it with no problem, and I have to admit that it was impressive the way he defended.

Other people tried to score, but he continued to defend everyone, and some people started cheering for him. I was confused as to why no one thought it was strange that he literally had supernaturally fast reflexes. I mean, just pay a little attention, and you will see that before the ball even gets close to the goal, he is already positioned to receive it. I don't even know if a normal human can do that, and I'm sure I've seen his eyes glow gold a few times.

To no surprise, Scott continues to successfully defend the goal. Nothing got past him; he caught them all. And it sure was bothering Jackson, who took the place of another player, and I heard Scott say "Oh God.

Jackson started running towards the goal, and then jumped up and threw the ball. If I hadn't known that Scott was a werewolf, I would have thought that there was no way he could catch it, but as I expected, he caught it easily.

This shocked everyone, and Stiles got up from his chair and shouted erratically. Lydia also stood up and clapped her hands. Jackson looked at her, and she gave him a smug look and sat down.

The others tried too, but no one could get past him. Danny even tried, but without success.

Honestly, I would like to say that I managed to score the goal, but he saved it with some ease. Not that I had any hope that he wouldn't defend my shot.

After this, Coach Finstock started calling out the names of the players one by one to take the tests. I was waiting my turn. I had a mixture of anxiety and excitement.

Finally, it was my turn. I walked to the field, picked up my lacrosse stick, and prepared myself to face the challenges that were to come.

Coach Finstock gave me some basic instructions, and then we started the practice. I ran around the field, trying to keep up with the pace of the other players. I was a bit of a handicap at the beginning, and it didn't help that every time he had the chance, Jackson made sure to knock me down. But little by little I adapted to the game, also managing to knock Jackson down a few times. As painful as it was, the game had to admit that it was a lot of fun.

As we played, Allison was in the stands, cheering me on.

Little by little, I loosened up and showed my skills. I managed to score a few goals and stand out in some defensive plays, mainly using my speed. The confidence started to take over me. I was having fun and feeling better and better.

After practice, Coach Finstock approached me. He had a smile on his face and said, "You did very well, Cole. I'm impressed with your performance, considering you've never played lacrosse before. I think you could be a great addition to the team."

"Thanks, Coach," I spoke with difficulty due to fatigue. As fun as the game was, there was no denying that it felt like I had been beaten up, even with the protective gear on.

After going to the locker room, I took a shower and changed my clothes. I just wanted to go home and rest when I left the school and saw Allison waiting for me.

"I thought you had already left," I commented.

"I was waiting for you. I thought that after practice you would be too tired to walk to your house, so I decided to give you a ride."

"You're my hero," I said, even though my house was close by. I really didn't want to walk.

"Are you coming or are you just going to stand there like a statue?" she spoke as she walked toward her car.

I didn't even bother to answer. I was too tired for that, so I just got in the car.

"So you're really not coming to the party Friday, and don't even come with the excuse of family night."

"Ahh, so you get it. I really should have come up with a better excuse. And, answering your question, I don't know anyone, I really doubt it would be fun to go to that party by myself."

"Really? If that's the only reason you're not going to the party with me, and as for your excuse, it's not even among the worst I've ever made up. For example, I once broke my mother's favorite vase and ended up blaming the dog."

"Are you calling me on a date? Wait, what's wrong with blaming the dog? It sounds like a very plausible story."

"The problem is that we don't have a dog. And yes, I am asking you out on a date."

"Hahahaha... you're an idiot."

"So, is that a yes or no?"

"It's a yes," she replied smiling.

This day is getting better and better. After that conversation, I finally got home.

After saying goodbye to Allison, I simply walked in and went straight to my room, lying down on the bed and falling asleep immediately.
