Ch.19 Dinner.

As I received that text, I was just annoyed. Why in the name of hell did they invite us? Does Chris suspect me or something? Or is it something else entirely. I really don't wanna do this.

Ashley saw my face and she whined and looked at me and I smiled and patter her head and said, "I'm fine." I sighed and got up and said, "I have to go home now. My mom is calling me."

She looked sad, I just patted her head and said, "Be a good girl while I am gone. I'll be back tomorrow."

She barked and I smiled and patted her head and started to make my way to my car.

I arrived home and I called out to mom. She was upstairs in her room "I'm here!" I quickly went up the stairs and I entered her room. She was sitting in front of the dresser and was putting on her earrings. She was already dressed.

She was wearing a long sleeve white blouse, with vertical black lines and a matt grey skirt. She looked at me trough the mirror and smiled and asked, "How do I look?"

I said, "You look good." but I quickly shook my head and I said, "What's this dinner at Argent's deal mom?"

She looked at me and exhaled and said, "They have invited us to dinner so that we can get to know each other. They are new to this town just like us." She then chuckled lightly and said, "And besides I am a little bored of your cooking."

I looked at her and I said, "I don't think it's a good idea." I walked towards her and raised my hands and said, "What if they ask about what we know that they are going to ask about?"

She sighed and turned to me and said, "What happened with you and Allison? Did you two get in another fight? I swear… you two are not even dating and you have this much drama between you two."

I looked at her and I said, "First off, this has nothing to do with Allison." She looked at me and squinted and I said, "Okay, it has very little to do with her and she was the one who instigated it and secondly you know I am right. When they ask about him. And when we tell them about him. They will still know that some things are still off."

She sighed and she got up and walked up to me and held my hand and said, "Then we tell them what we have been telling to the others. We can't keep living our lives like that as if he didn't exist." She cupped my face and she smiled and said, "Now, we are going to go to this dinner and we will have a wonderful time hmm?"

I sighed and I nodded and she said, "Good now, go and get dressed and take a shower. You smell like dogs."

I chuckled and I went out of her room and I sighed and said, "God, help me."

We were standing outside their house and I wore a white t-shirt and a brown jacket and my mom had a bottle of wine in her hand and I rang the doorbell and I asked her, "Are we sure we want to show up at their house with that wine?"

She looked at me and she nervously asked, "Why is it too cheap? I think I can get another one in a minute."

I sarcastically said, "Yes, mom. A 500 hundred dollar bottle is too cheap."

She looked at me and said, "No need to be snarky about it. I just want to make a good impression."

I sighed and I said, "What's taking them so long?" I rang the bell again. After a few seconds Scott came to the door. I was confused as to why he was still here.

He looked at me and my mom and said, "Please come in."

My mom smiled and she said, "You are Scott right?"

He smiled and nodded and then we both walked inside, mom said, "I watched you during the game. You were something… else."

He awkwardly smiled and said, "Ah thank you."

As this was going Chris came and he said, "Ah, it's good to see you two. Welcome to our humble abode." Even though it is almost exactly the same.

My mom smiled and she said, "It's a pleasure." She then handed him the bottle and said, "I hope to pop it open tonight."

He chuckled and said, "Ah, you shouldn't have." He then turned to the side and said, "Come, Victoria has been cooking up a feast for you guys."

My mom smiled and said, "Good, cause we are starving."

They both started walking into the dining room with me and Scott walking behind. His heart was beating a little fast. He was nervous.

We walked into the dinning room and I saw Allison setting up the table. She looked at me but then she averted her eyes.

Victoria, her mother then came into the room with the food and she smiled and said, "You guys are just in time."

The adults then started their pleasantries and we sat down on the table. I sat at the end of the table. Allison and Scott sat on the right side of the table closer to the other head.

Chris was sitting exactly opposite to me. Victoria was sitting on his right followed by his sister and then my mom.

They had served Chicken parmesan and spaghetti with marinara sauce and roasted broccoli and brussels sprouts.

Chris and everyone was talking and us "kids" were sidelined a little and it looked like Scott was happy with that.

It smelled amazing but there was a little herby smell coming off of the spaghetti. I took a bite of the chicken and it was fine, it tasted the same.

But when I ate a little of the spaghetti, it burned my throat. It was like drinking acid. But it also healed the burns. Chris looked at me and he raised his eyebrows and he asked "Everything alright Finn?"

I chuckled and said, "I am fine." Victoria looked at me and asked, "You want something else to drink besides water?"

Before I could say something Chris said "How about a beer?"

I looked at him and said, "I'd love that."

He and everyone looked at me and Allison rolled her eyes and I broke out a little laugh and said, "Jesus, I was just joking." Chris smiled and nodded and so did everyone else beside Kate.

She laughed and said, "I like this guy already." She then asked, "Allison said you both play Lacrosse? What kind of sport is it?"

I took a sip of water to clean my throat, but it was also laced and I coughed and Kate and Chris looked at me and I smiled and said, "It's like field hockey but the sticks have nets."

Kate then saw me smile and she shook her head a little and asked, "Ah, can you slap check like hockey?"

I nodded and said, "Yeah, but only with the gloves and the sticks."

She looked at me and she said, "Seems violent, I like it."

Allison then smiled and said, "Scott's amazing too. Dad came with me to the first game." She looked at Chris and asked, "Wasn't he good?"

Chris smiled and shook his head and said, "He was fine."

Allison looked at Kate and said, "He scored three times in that match."

Chris then said with a little sigh, "But he didn't play well, with others. He didn't make good calls, he didn't pass when Finn or anyone else was free. He mostly kept the ball to himself and then there were those weird moves he was making."

Allison then reclined back on her chair and her heart was beating fast and Scott said, "Maybe we should pop open some beers."

Everyone chuckled, and Allison calmed down a little. Victoria then asked me, "Finn, I heard you used to play football before?"

I nodded and said, "Yeah, from middle school, I had a growth spurt. So, as usual, the coaches dragged me into it, but later I liked it. It helped me."

She smiled and then she asked mom, "And what was Kansas like?"

My mom smiled and said, "It was a wonderful place. All the people were nice and welcoming. We felt right at home there."

She then asked, "So you used to live somewhere else before?"

My mom nodded and took a sip of wine and said, "Yeah, we used to live in a small town called Lunar lake." As they heard that name, they reacted a little and my mom picked up on it and she said, "Have you heard of it before?"

Victoria smiled and said, "My great uncle had been to that place. He used to tell stories about the town and its beautiful lake and the town's tale of the wolf."

They looked at my mom and she just chuckled and said, "Those are just spooky stories told to children, there is no truth to it."

Victoria then smiled and said, "Of course not." She then took a piece of chicken and she asked, "So what did your husband used to do?"

My mom smiled and said, "He used to take care of the family business." She took a sip and said, "He passed away two years ago."

Victoria gasped, and she put her hand on her chest and said, "I am so sorry? How did that happen?"

I looked at her and so did Allison and my mom said, "It was an accident. He fell off the stairs from the second floor. He was drinking heavily that night." They looked at us and mom continued, "After he passed away, we needed a change of pace. Everything around kinda reminded us of him. So we moved and by god's grace I got a great job here and I am thankful for it.."

She then looked at her and she smiled and said, "God is great." My mom nodded, and I took a sip of water and this bitch still hurt.

After dinner ended, we left a little early. We were standing in front of the gate and Chris was here to see us off and he said, "It was great to have you here. Even though this wasn't the night that we expected, it still turned out splendidly." He then said in a hush tone, "I am sorry for Vicky, she sometimes doesn't know where to stop."

My mom smiled and said, "It's fine, we are neighbours, trying to know each other, some dirty laundry will come out."

Chris then smiled and said, "We would love to have you again."

My mom just smiled and nodded and then we got out of the house and mom said, "I think you were right." I looked at her and she said, "Never again. I am not coming here." She then looked at me and she asked, "Are you okay?"

I shook my head and said, "Yeah, why?"

She squinted, but then she shook her head and said, "Never mind."

We were at our door and I said, "I forgot my phone, just a min." I walked back, and I was standing at the door and I tried to listen and I heard, "I don't think it's him." It was Kate. "We dosed everything he was consuming, and he didn't have any reaction. He is not the one."

Chris then said, "He is from Lunar lake."

Kate then rebuked and said, "So is his mom and she is a Belmont and in no way they would allow something like that. I am telling you it's not him. We are looking for someone else."

I then smiled, and I pumped my fist in the air, but then I calmed myself and I rang the bell and Kate opened the door and I said, "I forgot my phone."

She let me in and she asked, "So you heard the story about the wolf of the lake?"

I chuckled, and I said, "No, my grandpa wanted me to learn about it, but she was adamant that I don't. She said it was some bs story that needed to end."

I got my phone, and I asked her, "What is the story about?"

She smiled and said, "It's about the goddess of the moon, Selune and her followers."
