Chapter 1

Beacon Hills, is a town roughly 1 hour away from Los Angeles, California. The town boasts a population size of 30,000 people and for the average person, this town is just like any other. A low crime rate, a population whose weekend plans revolve around the local high school's sports team, and just enough for people to do, so they won't move away.

Unfortunately for the average person, this town is nothing but average. Over the last couple of months, strange reports have been popping up, which the local authorities have done their best to downplay as animal attacks. Reports of strange creatures being sighted, of monsters going bump in the night.

These reports inevitably made their way to my family. A family so rich in history but a mystery to all those who aren't in the know.

"Good morning, Don Quetzal. How was your flight?" Asked a professionally dressed man holding a sign with my name on it, outside of the terminal of LAX.

"Boring and uneventful." I easily reply, while giving the man a cursory look, nodding to him in greeting since both my hands are currently occupied with my bags. "I take it you're my ride?"

"Yes sir, your mother called ahead and booked our services, so I am at your disposal for as long as you need me." The man explained in a professional manner befitting the suit he was wearing. "Apologies, where are my manners. You may address me as Joshua, or Josh if you prefer. Would you like me to take your bags?"

"That would be great, thank you Joshua." I honestly reply with a friendly smile before handing him the suitcases by my side but refraining from giving him my designer LV duffel bag that I opt out to carry myself.

"Is there anywhere you would like me to take you Don, or would you prefer that we head straight to the address provided by your mother?" The sharply dressed man asks as he leads me out of the buzzing airport and to the parking lot, where a blacked-out Mercedes G-Wagon is waiting for us.

"There's very little that I want more than a nice hot shower right now Joshua. So, home it is." I answer while sliding into the back seat of the spacious vehicle, making myself comfortable.

"Very well sir." Joshua replies, closing the car door once I'm situated and then moving to load my suitcases into the trunk of the car before getting into the driver's seat and taking off.

The hour-long trip from LAX to Beacon Hills is filled with idle chit chat and my own mental musings as I put together a list of tasks I want to accomplish now that I am in the States.

The very first of which, is buying myself a new car with mom and dad's credit card, since having a driver is cool and all, but I don't want to stand out too much.

The scenery outside my window doesn't change much within the hour. Mountains and Palm trees make up the majority of the landscape and it's not until we get close to the Beacon Hills itself that the countryside starts changing into luscious forests.

Although not particularly at the level that my home town of Barcelona is, Beacon Hills itself looks to be quite lively for 10am on a Friday morning. The town is scattered with local businesses, which I am glad to see since mom and pop shops often have the best food.

Honestly, the whole place looks like it's right out of one of those American shows filled with angst and teenagers that look like they hit puberty when they were 8.

Along the way, I make sure to take note of some of the noticeable landmarks, like the police department and the school I will be attending once summer vacation is over, filing them away for future exploration. Eventually my long trip finally comes to an end when Joshua takes a turn into an upscale neighborhood, with houses much too large for one person.

"Uggghhh, dios mio. Why do you always have to do you always have to be so extra ma." I grumble to myself as Joshua parks the car in front of a gothic style house nestled in a corner plot with no nearby neighbors.

The house itself resembles a small mansion instead of a bachelor pad meant for the 16 year old teen I am.

Warm yellows and soft blacks make the exterior color palate of the house. While the beautiful front garden, filled with neatly kept bushes, colorfully arranged flowers, and towering trees for privacy give the entire place a homey feel.

Although I was expecting an apartment or even the penthouse at the local five-star hotel, a smile graces my lips after stepping out of the SUV. The feeling of finally getting my own territory finally truly sinking in as I take in the sight of my new home.

"Will there be anything else you need from me sir?" Joshua asks after unloading my suitcases from the trunk of the G-wagon.

"No, nothing for right now Joshua, but tomorrow I'll be needing a ride to a nearby car dealership. As helpful as your service are sure to be, I would much rather have a car of my own." I reply in a grateful tone while extending a hand for the man to shake.

Extending a hand of his own, we end up exchanging contact information before he gets back into the badass SUV and driving off.

Turning around and picking up my suitcase, I let out an excited chuckle at the prospects of what awaits for me behind the doors of the Gothic Victorian house.

"Well let's see how over the top you went this time, mom."

"Holy Fuck."

As I open the imposing dark mahogany double doors of my new home, the first thing I notice is the rich wooden floors that are illuminated by the natural light coming in from the abundance of windows around the house.

The warm light coming in from the outside is the perfect backdrop for all the plants tastefully scattered around the house, giving the whole place a more natural vibe.

From what I can tell so far, the interior design of the house was centered around a dark academia aesthetic, with all the vintage furniture being of a rustic nature with some modern amenities mixed in.

The house itself consists of 3 stories with 6 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms all on a very large piece of land connected to the larger of the forests in town.

Dropping my things off at the well-furnished living room, the next place I go to explore is the kitchen, since I plan on doing any immediate grocery shopping today, just to get it out of the way.

"Hahaha, Yes!"

Unsurprisingly though, after getting over the size of the kitchen itself and all the bells and whistles that it came with, my excitement peaks when I see that both the fridge and pantry have already been filled with all my favorite foods and all the necessities that I could ever need.

Whipping out my phone I quickly search for my mom's contact info and facetime her. It doesn't take more than 3 rings for her to answer and when she does it's with a dazzling smile.

"Mi Bebe! I've been waiting for your call all afternoon! How was your flight? Did you have any trouble finding the driver I set up for you? What about the house, do you love it or do you want me to have someone come by and make changes? Have you eaten yet? You must be starving! Dios mio, I miss you already. Do you need me to hop on the next flight out of Barcelona and head over? You know I will if you just ask." The tanned beauty rattles off in a single breath, only pausing to inhale.

Aiyanna Quetzal is the name of my mother. She is a Native American woman, born and raised in Colorado who could put almost any super model to shame with how beautiful she is. Although she spent her first 18 years of life in Colorado, her adventuress nature didn't let her stay in one place.

As soon as she graduated and was able to move away from home, she did it, eventually ending up in New York where she enrolled at NYU. Coincidently meeting my father, a man who has always bragged to me of how much of a lady killer he was back in the day, Emiliano Quetzal.

If you were to ask my mother who made the first move, she would say my father did but if you asked dad, then he would say the opposite. What really mattered though, was that even after 25 years of marriage, they were still madly in love.

They spent a couple of years traveling the world after graduating university, before settling down in Barcelona, Spain, where my father is originally from, and eventually having their first and only child, me, Darrian Quetzal.

Growing up as an only child I often wondered what it would have been like to have siblings, but one of the perks of being an only child was the unconditional love both my parents had for me and only me.

That's why, I fully believed my mom's statement and knew if I asked either one of them to hop on the next flight out from Spain, they would do it without a second thought or question.

"I miss you to ma. The flight was good, and yes Joshua, the driver you arranged, just dropped me off at the house. I gotta say, you really outdid yourself this time. This place is freaking gorgeous." I patiently replied to the first half of her questions while taking out ingredients for a quick snack from the fridge. "I was actually just checking out the kitchen, which prompted me to call you and thank you for getting everything stocked and ready for me. I haven't explored the rest of the house yet, but if it's anything like what I've seen so far, then I'm sure I'll have no complaints."

"Gahhh, I knew I shouldn't have listened to your father and hired the maid staff for you. Oh my poor baby, you're going to get so busy that you'll end up forgetting to eat. And with school and the responsibilities that come with having your own territory…"

I love my mom, I truly do. She is a caring woman that could befriend just about anyone, but when she gets going, there's very little that can stop one of her rants, and apparently me making a snack was enough to set her off. So like a seasoned pro, I continue making a dark chocolate granola fruit parfait while responding with hums and grunts whenever she asked me a direct question.

Like most every other time she's right though. Most 16-year-old teenagers only had to worry about getting acne before their first day of school or not getting caught with the badly rolled joint hidden under their bed.

I on the other hand was already living alone while being entrusted with managing the supernatural side of my very own territory, as was the right of passage for someone with the Quetzal name.

You see my family is an ancient one. With roots dating all the way back to the Olmec, who were a part of the first civilizations to ever pop up in Meso-America and The Shoshone tribe of Colorado. To the outside world we had a proud rich history that translated to some very old money on my dad's side. This influence allowed my father, and later myself and mother, to want for absolutely nothing.

The only caveat being, that each member of the household of Quetzal had to pull their own weight, and that came in the form of growing the families influence by taking control of territories around the world.

But to those in the know, we were so much more. You see not only is the Quetzal name known globally around the mundane world, but also in the Supernatural world.

This is because, well to put it quite simply, we're dragons.

And I mean that in the most literal sense of the word.

Well not really. I mean we're not huge scaly winged beast that can destroy cities with a single flap of their wings, but we do have dragon's blood in us.

A long time ago, one of my ancestors made a deal with the great Dragon King Quetzalcoatl. In that deal, in exchange for my ancestor's help in escaping a dark curse thrusted upon The Dragon King by a jealous god, my ancestor was granted a portion of the Dragons power through blood.

The exchange evolved my ancestor and all his future kin in a way never seen before. Although we looked like any other human, in reality we were completely different.

Skin so tough, that even in modern times only the heaviest of artilleries or magically boosted weapons would be able to hurt us. Our bodies now held an unimaginable amount of potential that allowed the only physical limits we had, be the ones we imposed on ourselves. To top it off, our life spans and immune systems were boosted to such a ridiculous amount, that some spiculate that the progenitor of our race would still be alive if he wouldn't have been murdered by a rogue group of zealot gods.

Any one of these skills would have catapulted our family into being a powerhouse, but the biggest boon we received, was the ability to wield magic. Dragons are beings born of magic, so for our blood line to be part dragon, the outcome was more than I'm sure my ancestor could have ever hoped for.

So, with all that, and the death of the pack of wolves that once called the whole of the American West coast their territory, it was natural for my family to step in and fill the power vacuum left behind.

"Hiya, kiddo. How's everything going? You get any time to explore the area yet?" My father's voice through my phone, interrupts my musings as the image of my still fawning mother shifts to that of my dad's amused face.

"Not yet pops. I just got in. I plan to unpack and research the local area first before going out tomorrow and doing some leg work." I respond while finishing up the rest of my food and taking the plates to the sink. "I wanna get the lay of the land before making any moves."

"Smart. No point in ruffling any feather's if you don't have to. But remember mijo…" My father nods while offering the same advice he's always given me.

"You're a Quetzal, we do things because we can." I recite at the same time he does, giving the man a smile he good naturedly returns.

"Good man. Alright, you probably have a lot to do today so I'll take over and help calm your mom down." Dad offers, not paying any mind to the protests my mom sends his way when she hears his words. "We're proud of you kiddo."

"Love you honey! Make sure to look after yourself and don't take any shit from anyone. If you need us, we're just a call away. Oh! And if any girl tries to seduce you, you tell mommy and I'll make sure the body is never found!" Mom adds in her two cents, throwing in the last part with a sickly-sweet smile that I choose to ignore.

"Hahahaha Los amo. Ciao!" I return the affection, chuckling at the antics of the two most import people in my life, before hanging up and taking a moment to let the fact sink in that for the first time in my life, I'm on my own.

"Welp. No time like the present… Let's get to work."

The rest of the day is fairly uneventful. A day full of unpacking and researching with a workout thrown in after finding the home gym that was built in what at first looked like a pool house. A quick swim and one shower later, day turned into night, thus bringing an end to my first day at Beacon Hills.

So, this is my first story ever. I plan to dive into some of the Vampire/Werewolf genres, spanning from TV to Movies and some anime.

Let me know what you think, and any constructive criticism is appreciated.
