CHAPTER 30 : THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT

To say the rate at which my soul recovered mental energy was expeditious would be an understatement as within at most two hours, my mind and core were filled to the brim with the tangible energy, assaulting me with a sense of fulfilment.

My eyes slowly opened up and fell upon the unconscious mana beast lying on the experimental table.

Before leaving alcrya, on my orders, asher had brought the sedatives alcryan army injects mana beasts with before corrupting them along with the other equipments lying in my half-assed lab, making the conduction of my experiments significantly smoother and considerably less laboursome.

Otherwise, I probably wouldn't have been able to carry out experiments on high-class mana beasts without taking the risk of them escaping or attacking me in the middle of the experiments as normal cages are certainly not capable of holding full-grown mana beasts above C-class.

Although I admit there are some mana beasts outbursts occasionally due to me forgetting or purposely not giving the sedatives on time, other than that, they posed no problem.

Briefly eying the beast, I reckoned that it would regain consciousness in about an hour judging by the last time It had been given sedatives.

Not wanting to waste my time, I took out an S class core from my storage ring and began refining my core, which was fortunately now on the cusp of breaking through to mid silver, due to utilizing tens of S class cores I had amassed in over a year.

*Kwayk*

My eyes shot open in shock as suddenly I felt a tremor run through the whole cavern.

Just as I was in the process of identifying the source, It shook again, this time more fiercely as even the tables in the lab started to tremble vigorously and all the stuff placed priorly on it, gradually started dropping to the rough floor.

My eyes narrowed as my hand sprang forward, stopping the unconscious mana beast that was just about to fall off.

It didn't take me long to find out the cause of the aggregating occurrence as I bolted out of my lab and came in front of a wall at the farther end of the base.

Unsurprisingly, asher stood there, reaching before even me, looking in my direction with furrowed brows, signifying his annoyance with the situation.

"I guess someone attacked the boss room," He uttered.

"I know," I replied, my expression turning grim.

This wasn't supposed to happen.

There were a multitude of reasons why I had decided to choose this particular dungeon for our temporary base. First, The boss accommodated here was an extremely powerful S-class mana beast and wasn't to be messed up with. And with the aid of the soul potion, I was able to corrupt the beast and effectively transform it into Asher's loyal servant of its own accord, as the pink solution has the ability to instil allegiance in mana beasts towards alcryans. The beast also had a plethora of lower-rank mana beasts under its wing, ensuring a steady supply of them, which I could use for my experiments.

Secondly, It was located significantly deeper inside the beast glades and the adventurers guild had a long way to go to even reach this place, let alone issue an exploration. Unless they were ordered to and the Same is true for the alcryans.

Suddenly, my expression turned dark as the possibility of war transpiring earlier than the expected time period crossed my mind but I couldn't help but somewhat doubt that as I have never interfered with any of the personas involved in the major events shown in fate visions... at least not intentionally. And the remaining of my actions shouldn't have caused this drastic of a change, should they?

'Is this the so-called butterfly effect.' I thought with solemn expressions, envisioning what other changes my deeds might have caused, I raised my hand forwards as the plain-looking wall instantly split apart like an elevator door, revealing a narrow pathway in front of me, leading straight to the boss room.

Without waiting further, I ambled through the pathway with Asher right beside me.

Even before reaching the end, I could hear the intense sounds of battle happening on the other side mixed with the shouts of our botherer...no, there was more than one, probably a whole party or even several parties as more than 15 humanoid shapes entered my mental field.

"Tsk" the sound of clicking of a tongue came from my side, catching my attention as I tilted my head and started at asher with a questioning look.

He noticed and surprisingly glared at me with an ugly expression.

"Did you just...farted?"

"Huh?"

Three months ago.

CYLRIT's POV :

Her lips were stained with purple paint flecked with gold, and her cheeks shone with silver stardust. On top of her head, dusky pearl hair grew in braids and curls that flowed back past her narrow shoulders. Her skin had the quality of polished alabaster and her eyes were as piercing as her long black horns. She was dressed in a war dress made of scales that twinkled like black diamonds and a fur-lined cloak that seemed to absorb light.

Briefly Glancing at the curiously looking seris in front of me, I began recounting all about the incident that had occurred in southern Vechor when I was tasked to see for the mage that went missing on an extremely important mission - important enough for the involvement of a sovereign - of delivering the corruptor solutions to all the military encampments throughout the alcrya,

[ A/N: Alcryan's refer to soul solution as corruptor solution ]

I told her how I failed to retrieve even his corpse, let alone the solution. Only because of...one guy.

He looked anything but special. In fact, he looked like the most ordinary person I had ever seen, even more ordinary than the skin of mana he hid his real appearance behind.

But if any ordinary person in alcrya could invade and kill a mage of a retainer's calibre then Agrona probably wouldn't even need a new continent for resources to win against epheotus.

His deed shocked me, not because he killed a soon-to-be retainer, but because he killed him despite an enormous gap in power.

His mana didn't feel all that powerful or pure, probably equivalent to a silver core mage if said according to dicathen standard, however the way it revolved around him, at his command - although not as good as a scythe - would leave any average retainer into dust.

There was also his self-confidant and playful gaze, that despite being a lot more powerful than him, sent a cold sweat to trickle down my spine.

I recounted how he knew about our plan as well as the threat he left before teleporting in his exact same words.

As for how he teleported away, I didn't think too much about it. He most likely used an artifact.

They have those in central dominion as well.

I stopped after telling her everything, every small and big detail as things were really out of hand this time.

Someone knew about our plan. The plan we only ever discussed between ourselves and I was sure not even a sovereign would be able to eavesdrop on us with all the measures we take before going on about it.

So how did he know!? Was he even more powerful than a sovereign!?

No, I doubted that. Because if he was, then he wouldn't have threatened me for the next instant to just run away.

A multitude of possibilities came into my mind, but even after running my mind at full speed, I couldn't connect any loophole or possibility that might have revealed our plan to anyone. The guy just came out of nowhere! As if dropped from the sky!

"He is most likely not from alcrya," Seris's grave voice brought me out of my thoughts as my eyes widened in surprise, realizing the meaning of her words.

"Then is he from Eph...."

"No, that doesn't sound reasonable as well, because Asuras won't break their treaty this early in the war. Then...the most plausible explanation would be..." her voice trailed off as she clicked her tongue and the room fell into eerie silence.

"Then are y-you saying he is f-from...." I stuttered, my voice louder than normal as my widened eyes threatened to nearly pop out of their sockets.

"Yeah," Seris nodded in confirmation, her voice sounding a mixture of amazement and wryness.

[ A/N :- Yo! The author here. Sorry for the late:) update, I've really been swamped with exams, but now I'm back and I'll be posting regularly. By the way, I've started writing a new novel called 'Death, Reborn and Repeat. I have already uploaded two prologues and the other two will be coming out tomorrow. I'd appreciate it If you could give it a read as I've really put my soul into its plot and writing style. If you like how Alex does things and analyse everything with a different perspective then I assure you, you would love the MC as well.

As the word count hasn't reached the minimum limit yet, the novel isn't available on my profile, so if you wanna check it out, just type the title in the webnovel's search bar. Do tell me in the comment section of this chapter if you like the writing style.

And one more thing, I've changed reborn scientist's schedule to one chap every Mon/Thu/Sun, so look forward to it.

Ok, that's all ]
