Our Boy is Ready

Father and son duo were walking in the streets of the flying city, Xyrus to be precise. Valnyk and Varlam Auraes, both from the renowned Aurae family. Although it changed, when the Royal family sprawl some lies about them.

"Pops, so where are we going?" Asked Valnyk while they were walking in the streets.

"Didn't I tell you about Xyrus Adventurers guild?" Varlam responded with a question.

"You said you had a friend there."

"Ah yes, well he is an AA-Class adventurer and guild leader of the Xyrus branch. He will assist us with the current circumstances…" Clarified Varlam.

Through adventuring, you can gain popularity amongst the citizenry and this can undoubtedly help out the Aurae's house. In addition to that, more benefits such as training and new experience for Valnyk, the prospect of the Aurae's house.

"HM, I didn't anticipate Xyrus Guild to be so ginormous." Valnyk said out loud staring at the large building in front of them, Varlam just chuckled at this.

"Ha-ha, well the interior within is grander. Come on, follow me!" Father called out at his son and ran forward like a child.

"Who is the little kid now, huh?" The young boy facepalmed at his father's actions but followed him nonetheless.

By now in Xyrus Adventurer's guild, the father and son duo proceed to seek for a father's acquaintance. Kaspian Bladeheart, present guild leader, was the one they were inquiring for and he had to be present there today. In the end, after observing the guild hall for a while, Varlam decided to ask a female receptionist for Kaspian.

"Excuse me, can you call Kaspian Bladeheart? he was supposed to meet us here." Varlam spoke to the woman.

"A-Ah, Guild Leader is busy right now can you Wai-" Before she could continue, someone came behind Varlam and tapped on his shoulder.

"Haven't seen you for a while Varlam!" Exclaimed slender gentleman with black-long hair behind Varlam.

"Oh, Kaspian!" They hugged each other as close friends would do, a lot of people in the lobby sighted this interaction and watched hugging men.

"Guild leader… Who is this person?" The female receptionist asked, Kaspian and Varlam released each other, their friendly reunion moment lasted for quite a while.

"Oh, yeah. This is Varlam Aurae, you had to hear his name at least somewhere." Kaspian introduced Varlman, who in response nodded.

Varlam Aurae was a renowned person, at least in major cities. The royal family or the military exploited his name to brag about newly vanquished deep dungeons in the Beast Glades, so the receptionist of the Adventurer's Guild was aware of this name, however, she didn't know about his appearance just like many citizens of the human kingdom.

"Well, so how come are you here? Unquestionably not because you wished to meet and greet an old comrade right?" Kaspian once again turned to Varlam and queried.

"It should be discussed in private…" Whispered Varlam, Kaspian understood and just pointed at his office, motioning father and son to follow him.

Varlam and Valnyk walked behind Kaspian, few adventurers and receptionists shot them curious glances, making Valnyk feel uneasy, but he shrugged it off, reasoning it was normal. Once they entered Kaspian's luxurious office they sat down on couches facing each other.

"So what's the matter?" Kaspian demanded with seriousness in his tone.

"Can I ask for a favor?"

"Shoot it."

"I need you to register Valnyk as an adventurer, please, it's really important." Declared Varlam, begging his old friend.

"Foreseen much… It can be done, but I want to make sure your son is ready for it." Kaspian alleged, knowing the reasoning behind Varlam's decisions.

"I understand, he can prove to you that he is ready." Varlam agreed, so Kaspian moved ahead to take them to the examination spot.

-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-

"Nobody shall observe our test, so you can go all out without fear of someone spreading rumors." Kaspian assured young Valnyk, taking out his sword from the sheath.

"Val, just be yourself!" Varlam called out for his son, obviously trying to encourage him.

'Old man, don't humiliate me!' Valnyk cried out in his mind, ashamed by the whole state of affairs.

Not only they had to ask for a favor, but now he as well has to battle some guy to prove himself. All of this is just for guild card, to later get in Beast Glades. Valnyk understood the reasoning, but his father was too soft or perhaps Valnyk was getting prideful?

"Alright." Valnyk as well unsheathed his blade which, unlike other blades, had a wand as a handle.

"You can attack whenever you are ready." Said Kaspian and took a stance, in a position where he could thrust his sword forward at any moment.

'He's an augmenter. I'm a conjurer, so I'll use ranged attacks for now.' Noted Valnyk and instantly just for the facade started muttering chant under his breath.

Valnyk was able to conjure spells without incantations, he learned how to properly use mana with his so dubbed 'Lizard Eyes', to later will and shape it as a spell. Incantations might take quite a lot of critical time in battle, some spelling mistake and you are dead. Chantless magic meanwhile, needs superior awareness about mana and a good imagination, core level as well, yet Valnyk has unique circumstances. (Ofc he can will ambient mana too.)

Valnyk put his blade with the handle forward. After finishing murmuring the chant, he formed the ball of fire on the tip of the wand and sent it towards Kaspian, who grinned as if viewing anything striking.

To intercept Valnyk's attack, Kaspian gathered wind Mona on his sword and thrust it forward aiming for the ball of fire. Wind spikes successfully hit the ball of fire, which without delay erupt, limiting sight of the opponents.

'He has ranged attacks too.' On the other side of the battleground, Valnyk analyzed his opponent.

Just about when he was to conjure another spell, Kaspian jumped out of the fire, while rushing towards Valnyk.

"Don't let your guard down!" Shouted Kaspian and thrust his sword at Valnyk aiming for the neck.

Valnyk, still in shock, managed to react swiftly and lean back to evade thrust. He balanced himself by placing a hand on the ground, countering Kaspian with a kick on the hand in which he gripped the sword.

This inhuman reaction speed surprised Kaspian.

'What do you feed this little monster, Var?' He wondered.

Mercifully for Kaspian, the force behind the kick wasn't enough for him to lose grip on the sword. So he just jumped back, he was ready to approve of this child even now, but he still wanted to continue.

"You have a monstrous reaction, but don't let your guard down. Sometimes your body won't be able to keep up with your sight." advised Kaspian, Valnyk responded with just a nod.

'I already know this… But damn his mastery over wind is good.' Valkyn internally praised Kaspian, who with wind magic protected himself from fire.

"Also… Why mutter those spells for no reason? Don't waste time on those in battle." With a mad grin, Kaspian spoke to Valnyk, who looked stunned.

"When you were concentrating on forming spell, what were you saying? Do you even remember what chant you were muttering?" questioned Kaspian, Valnyk was dumbfounded as he thought he was found out.

Kaspian, receiving no response from Valnyk and seeing this look on his face, also got shocked for some reason.

"My hunch was real huh? Var… your child is a monster..." He muttered.

"Val, keep fighting him!" Varlam shouted across the battlefield, he had a smirk on his face while looking at Kaspian.

"You… Young Val! Keep attacking, it seems that I will be your living punching bag today." Kaspian accepted his fate and again took a fighting stance.

"Don't mind if I do." Spoke Valnyk, as he aimed to shoot another spell towards Kaspian.

This time Valnyk didn't waste time on murmuring chants, as he was already figured out and there was no more necessity for cover. So he without incantations gathered fire-mana on the tip of the handle, creating another fireball.

Fireball shot to Kaspian, who prepared another wind spike to block the attack. Even so, before the wind spike could contact, the fireball broadened, forming fire spikes which were launched at Kaspian at the high speed.

Varlam at the sidelines was still grinning, his son knew how to humiliate his opponents. Valnyk exploited the same trick that Kaspian used, to defeat him. Isn't this the most humiliating way to defeat an individual who has self-esteem in his technique? It's even more embarrassing when Valnyk learned everything on the battlefield with just observation.

"Shit." Oh, Kaspian was right, indeed.

.

"Ah, shame on me!" shouted Kaspian, slumping down on the ground after battling with Valnyk.

"My son beat your ass without breaking a sweat heh..." Varlam snickered at his old friend.

Valnyk with fire magic, utilizing almost the same spell as Kaspian toyed around with him. While Kaspian was running around like a mouse, Valnyk just prepared another spell and continued until Kaspian got tremendously tired.

"Still… It's more than outstanding. You duplicated my spell and made use of it in so many ways, is this because of just chantless magic?" Asked Kaspian.

Some people could cast magic without chants, but they should comprehend spells from in and out. They can't simply replicate someone in the battle, particularly not everybody can apply one spell in so many ways as Valnyk.

Shooting fire spikes from the blade, fireballs, and even hands. Several fire spikes at the same time that is, unlike Kaspian who could only gather wind mana around the sword to later thrust it. But keep in mind, Valnyk is a conjurer.

"So~ Kaspian, did my son pass your test?" Varlam asked playfully, still trying to tease Kaspian.

"I would be an idiot if I said he didn't." Grumbled Kaspian.

"Regardless, try to dive in low-class dungeons at first just for the experience. I will prepare your guild cards, wait in my office for now." Kaspian managed to stand up and gesture them to his office once again.

"Sure."
