9 Chapter 9

It was a new day.

The Sun just woke up, sharing its warmth with the citizens of City Q.

"Dad, believe me, it's really delicious!"

Outside Yan Bao restaurant, a slightly tanned adolescent boy could be seen dragging a man in his 40's into the restaurant. It was Ji Peng, one of Yan Bao's regulars.

He was really trying his best to fulfil his promise to "help spread the word."

Ji's father scrutinized the shop in front of him with a doubtful expression.

"I've been on a business trip for more than half a month, and I finally came back. Is this what you meant by showing filial piety earlier? Did a roadside shop like this really have delicious foods?"

"When have I lied to you?"

As soon as he finished speaking, he saw Dad Ji's eyes squinting slightly as if saying, "Did you even need to ask?"

"Anyway, you must try it first. Then you'll understand."

Ji Peng immediately changed the subject and shouted to Liu Yan inside.

"Boss, what's for breakfast today?"

'Brat, you bring me here to eat but you don't even know what they are selling?' Daddy Ji was speechless.

But it was rare for his son to be so affectionate, so he couldn't refuse it.

'Well, although the store is a little small, it is quite clean.'

As he entered, Father Ji's eyes carefully observed the room.

There were 10 or 20 tables in the store, and behind the counter on the right was a semi-open kitchen. Customers could directly see the cooking process of the food, which was quite reassuring.

Even the chilli sauce jar next to it was refined to a such a fine degree. He could even see a glimpse of his own reflection in it.

The first impression was quite good.

"There is pork roujiamo, shredded potato cakes, and white porridge." Considering the previous experience, Liu Yan immediately suggested, "You can try both staple foods."

Father Ji was a bit dazed when he listened to the pleasant-sounding voice, and when he looked at Liu Yan's face, he felt even more pleasant.

Liu Yan paused for a moment and glanced at Father Ji's dazed expression and immediately understood where the point came from.

Because his gaze wasn't too intrusive and unpleasant, Liu Yan decided not to let it bother her. She got a free point anyway, so she had nothing to complain about.

There was no one who didn't appreciate beauty, anyway.

Having realized that he was staring too long, Father Ji felt a little bit embarrassed and quickly shifted his eyes away from Liu Yan.

It was not that he had never seen a beautiful woman before, but Liu Yan's beauty had a certain charm in it that made people inadvertently attracted.

Liu Yan took out four fragrant white buns from the small tandoor, cut them swiftly, and stuffed them with a lot of rotten roast pork.

The moment the knife sliced apart the white bun into two parts, the crisp sound of the crunch was accompanied by the cracking of the bun shell.

There was a little girl waiting under the counter long ago, rubbing her little hands and gulping continuously, and there was a faint sound of grunting in her little belly.

Ji Peng suddenly felt an urge to touch the little girl's braids, but Baobao quickly avoided it.

The teenager felt a little bit disappointed, "Little Bao, don't you recognize this big brother?"

Baobao stood on tiptoe and took a plate of roujiamo from Liu Yan's hands, looking at him vigilantly. "Auntie said, don't let strangers touch Baobao casually."

Ji Peng was stunned.

'Am I a stranger in your eyes?'

The 16-year old high schooler's heart was instantly broken by the little cub.

Ji's father let out an amused laugh, "Smart girl."

Receiving Father Ji's praise, Baobao puffed her chest and smiled proudly, "Baobao is the smartest!"

Chuckling softly, Liu Yan put the warm white rice porridge in front of the little girl and said, "Eat it."

"Thank you, Auntie," Baobao thanked her earnestly, scooping a spoonful of white porridge with her chubby little hands, and then pouted her mouth to drink it after blowing it earnestly.

Ahhh, good stuff!

Baobao licked her lips and scooped another two spoonsful of porridge consecutively.

Maybe the porridge was too fragrant, or maybe it was because the child's way of eating was too savvy, Father Ji suddenly felt hungry and quickly ordered.

"Get me two servings of Roujiamo and shredded potato cakes and two bowls of porridge."

Not to brag, but Ji's family could be considered quite wealthy, and he personally had tasted many delicious dishes from all over the world. He naturally understood that the simpler the dishes, the better the chef's skill.

They didn't wait too long for the food to come.

"Is this Northeastern rice?" Father Ji stirred the porridge first.

Liu Yan nodded, "The best W City rice."

In recent years, W City rice has been flooding the market and becoming very popular. But it wasn't without demerit. There was a lot of low-quality merchandise, some of which had been mixed with lower-quality rice to make it cheaper.

Even if it was genuine W City rice, there were many variants available in the market.

During her experience as a chef in the past few years, Liu Yan met many suppliers from all over the world. Although she works alone now, she still maintains her friendship with them. Even if the number of orders was not as large as before, everyone was willing to provide her with the best quality ingredients.

Because of his abundance of experience, as soon as the porridge entered his mouth, he instantly realized that Liu Yan was not bragging.

The porridge was smooth in texture and exceedingly creamy, which remained consistent throughout. Despite not adding any spice, the natural fragrance and sweetness of W City rice made him unable to stop.

A bowl of the simplest white rice porridge was enough.

Any embellishments would be superfluous.
