1 The Unspoken Invitation

[The act of betraying my brother in his own blood proves that you are unworthy of the title of Emperor!]

A character in white soars at incredible velocity from a rooftop, wielding his sword and aiming for the throat of figure in green.

However, the cunning man in green dodged with agility, wearing an evil grin. He raises his hand, summoning a orb of light that resembles a bomb, which he quickly hurls at the hero in white, causing it to explode.

[Oh... Sweet brother, Did you forget? He's merely your servant, with no blood ties to you. I, on the other hand, am your true brother, and yet you have the audacity to challenge me?]

[You are no brother of mine! The moment you betrayed father for power!]

Mo Jiaxin sits on the couch, looking TV then glancing down at her engrossed three-year-old son beside her. The donghua on the big screen is decent but aimed towards children, with at weird nonsensical plot but it's addicting to watch.

She casually checks the time on her phone.

It's 8:32 PM, her husband, Shen Huaizhen should've been home by now considering he finishes work at 6:20.

It is 8:33 now, and this deviation from his routine raises concerns.

However, she isn't particularly invested in his personal matters. Their marriage is merely a practical arrangement rather than one based on love and raising Shen Changsheng is all that matters right now, and she doesn't really know the guy like that, She just suddenly woke up in the body of middle aged woman, Three months ago.

Mo Jiaxin despises looking at his icy face; it has the potential to shatter the pleasant mood she has painstakingly built— just then her thoughts are interrupted as the door creaks open, revealing Shen Huaizhen standing there, his expression weary and worn.

He casually removes his leather shoes, drapes his trench coat on the coat hanger, and effortlessly slips into his house shoes. Without acknowledging her or announcing his presence, he proceeds towards the kitchen.

In the kitchen, Shen Huaizhen stumbles upon a slice of cheesecake with a tiny nibble taken from the edge, along with a Tupperware container filled with rice and thin slices of chicken thigh.

A note sits on top of the container.

I left you some rice with chicken and a slice of cheesecake. If you're feeling hungry, just warm it up in the microwave :3

Shen Huaizhen closed the refrigerator without touching the food inside. He then opened the freezer and grabbed a popsicle to enjoy while leaving the kitchen.

[Breaking News! Reports are coming in about a major fire at the Jiang Corporation headquarters. Firefighters are currently working to control the flames...It is said that this was all caused by a gas leak and an explosion, but authorities are still investigating...]

"The Jiang Corporation?" Mo Jiaxin's brows furrows as she frowns, her eyes fixated on the screen.

That's the company that Shen Huaizhen works at!

Her gaze shifts to her husband, who chewing on a popsicle stick, seemingly unaffected.

"Huaizhen, Are you okay? Le—"

"It's fine, the office building has a strict evacuation protocol, and besides, I'm in a different department."

Did he just cut me off?!

"Oh... that's good." It's not like Mo Jiaxin's worried about him, She would've jumped for joy if the fire killed or burned him to a crisp.

"My Mother invited you to my grandfather's birthday banquet, by the way," Shen Huaizhen says nonchalantly, breaking the silence.

Mo Jiaxin raises an eyebrow, surprised. She hadn't heard anything about a banquet. "When?"

"Next weekend. She expects you to attend."

That hag expects me to attend next weekend? I gotta take litle Changie to his orientation at preschool next weekend.

Mo Jiaxin sighs, trying to hide her annoyance. "I'll see if I can rearrange my schedule, but I can't promise anything."
