Chapter 1: The Classroom

Thunder crackled as the dark grey clouds shifted and turned above, an army wearing all black stood at the precipice of a hill looking down upon an army of pure white. At the fore of the white army stood a large vaguely humanoid figure raising his long curved blade towards the black army met with the large black knight drawing his large black blade. Shouts in an unknown language could be heard as another tall figure walks through the dark army taking the forefront of the vanguard. Through a language, you can't understand. The two large figures walking towards each other meeting in between the two forces. Only now could the minute details of the soldiers be seen, from the intricacies of their armor to the raw power that seemed to emanate from their very beings. The black-armored fighter removed his helmet revealing a head of red hair and grey skin, two small black horns protruding from his forehead.

"Hail it doesn't have to be this way." He spoke, his deep voice reverberating through the very ground they stood upon. His blue eyes shined with determination, "Hail, you are like a brother to me we don't need to fight. Just step aside and we can stop this needless bloodshed." He spoke, taking another step towards the white soldier. The white soldier apparently named Hail, in response raised his hands and removed his helm. Beneath it lay a fair-skinned elf with short white hair and laden below his red eyes lay a scar stretching across his face reaching the bridge of his nose.

he looked at the red-haired figure intensely, "Arkos, you of all people know I can't step aside." He sighed. For a moment there was silence before Hail spoke up again. "Arkos I know that you're intentions may be for the greater good but I cannot condone thoughtless killing."

"It's not thoughtless killing nor careless, It is a culling brother. Those humans sit on their thrones, take our land, and kill whoever rebels! They are not fit for this world!" Arkos shouted, his emotions seemingly causing his magic to swirl around him kicking up dust blocking the view of both the forces of their leaders. "I just want to be free again, Hail." He sighed kneeling in defeat.

Hail looked down at this broken man before him and sighed, "Arkos I know it has been hard for your people but control yourself this problem doesn't require violence to be solved. Here take my hand, brother." The white knight put out his left hand for the black knight to take. Arkos looked up at the hand being offered and started to shake, then he started to laugh.

"You know Hail I'm glad that there are two things that haven't changed about you." He smiled, taking the offered hand. "You always know what to say." Hail smiled as he hoisted Arkos up and turned to pick up their helmets. "But..." Arkos started, causing Hail to turn back. Hail then felt a sharp pain in his chest as he looked down to see the large red sword Arkos had brandished before they had spoken piercing his armor, his dark blood dripping down the edge meeting the grey hand of Arkos. "You're too naive brother." he smiled maniacally. "From shadows to light brother, you were blessed by it. and I was forced away for being chosen by shadow."Arkos pushed Hail backward off his blade and the ground stained red as Hail's life force slowly drained away. "Now I am the one who stands victorious and you lay dead in the dirt where your kings soon shall as well." The dust settled and the spectators could now see the body of Hail laying on the ground and Arkos standing there triumphantly as he turned to his army and pointed his now red blade to the white army.

"And that class is how the Bright Hail died by the hands of Arkos the Shade before Leywin." The teacher, Mrs. Lathra, set her book down. "Arkos the Shade then went through the human capital losing his soldiers along the way before dying at the hand of the Bright's disciples." She finished her lesson before sitting down on her desk. "Any questions?" She looked out at the sea of teenagers. With that statement, many hands shot up with an assortment of questions, each about different parts of the tale. After close to a half-hour of answering questions it seemed the teens were content with the lesson today.

"Ok kids now before I send you off to combat class there is one last thing you must know. As it is your final day in my class you are all going to take the Bright test, so you'll finally be able to learn the amount of light you're able to command so be prepared and bring your vessel and enjoy your time at the next academy." She commanded before sending the class of twenty-five off. While Mrs. Lathra was packing up her lesson she looked out across the sea of empty desks and saw a very familiar head of white hair. She sighed, "Mr. Amya, I would prefer it if you didn't sleep in my class." she said loudly while walking down the empty aisle to the filled seat. "After all it's your last day here you shouldn't miss any classes, Shiroe." The noise roused the white-haired boy awake.

"Oh, Mrs. Lathra is the story over? I fell asleep since it was such a good one." Shiroe Amya yawned while getting up from his seat. He started to stretch before Mrs. Lathra piped up.

"You do know about the Bright test later today at Starset right?" She interrogated, crossing her arms at the unruly student.

"Yeah Yeah, bring our vessel at Starset and we find out the amount of light we can use, I know." He retorted tiredly before picking up his bag and walking towards the door.

"Do I need to call for your friend? You've missed most of the movement period you'll end up late." She questioned. The white-haired boy looked up at her his red eyes shone in the sun's light and his long pointy ears now visible from his long white hair.

"No, if anything he'll be here so-" Before Shiroe could finish his sentence there was a large boom as if something had just blown up and a cloud of dust shot from the entrance to the classroom. "Speak of the devil," Shiroe spoke turning to the cloud. Where the door had been there standing a quite tall Terran, with slightly pointed ears, gray curly hair, and soft blue eyes.

"SHIROE!, We must go!" The Terran shouted standing in the remains of the wall and doorway. pieces of the stone wall were around him, his hair and face were caked in dust.

"Cyre Ryvin. I thought I told you to not run in the hallways you'll cause too much damage!" Mrs. Lathra stared intensely at the Terran. Cyre looked back at Mrs. Lathra and bowed his head,

"Sorry, Mrs. Lathra, If I don't grab Shiroe now then we'll be late to combat class. speaking of which we have one-minute Shiroe! Come on!" Cyre said apologetically before grabbing Shiroe by the arms and disappearing into the cloud of dust.

Mrs. Lathra sighed before drawing a wand from her bag and waving it at the mess causing it to float back into place making the wall seem as if it never had been broken. "Honestly those two," She sighed once more, "They're seniors but they still act like they just joined this school. They're both so careless." Mrs. Lathra let out before sitting down at her desk looking out the window to see Cyre carrying Shiroe above his head blazing across the campus grounds. "Though I'll be sad to see them gone, they brought this energy to the school however chaotic it might've been." She sighed.

Hello everyone I hope you liked the very first chapter of ToL Book 2: The Divide. It might not be much but I put some time and effort into this one so I could show more than I did with the short stories in book 1. Speaking of which if you want to check it out it's called Tales of Lyren Book 1: The Ten Tales.

If you enjoyed this book and the writing keep an eye on the A2 series, Book 1: Adventure, It's a group project between me and 3 irl friends though writing takes a while due to differing opinions.

Hope you stick with me on this series.

Have some idea about my story? Comment it and let me know.
