Struggle

Jack used all his remaining strength to lift his right upper arm and stuffed the wolf mouth with it while using his left hand to grab the dagger beside him.

He gritted his teeth and pushed the monster's lower jaw with his head to make sure that the wolf kept biting his arm. This way, he can minimize the bleeding in his arm and prevent his opponent from using its deadliest weapon at the same time.

He didn't have any strength left to do another fight, so the only thing he could do was to exert all he had and give his new enemy a final struggle.

Using his body weight, Jack pinned down the monster and stabbed its stomach repeatedly using his left hand while shouting an ultimate curse.

"Die you mother*ucker! Die! Just fu*king die! Die! Die! Die!"

He keeps stabbing and stabbing even after the wolf dies, pouring out all his bottled emotion that accumulated for days. Anger, fear, joy, excitement, sadness, and loneliness mixed in one and fueled his last act.

When Jack couldn't lift his arm anymore, his body was already wet, covered with the wolf's blood and his own. His breathing became unsteady, the luster in his eyes slowly dimmed as his body lying limply on the ground surface.

Jack can feel his strength drained rapidly and couldn't help but think that his time to go has already come.

Various memories flashed in front of his eyes like a movie, but random and uncontrollable. Some of them were very clear when some others were not very vivid. He didn't even remember some of them ever happened in his life.

It showed a scene when both of his parents died because of an accident, leaving him alone on Earth. Jack felt his chest tightened as if that moment reoccurred once more. Tears slowly flowed from his eyes.

A few moments after, it changed into the moment when he proposed to Rose. Then turn to a time when his son was born, make him giggle in happiness.

Afterward, he could see his younger self playing an old RPG game in his parent's house with a big smile on his face. At that moment, he suddenly notices that there is a light at the end of the dark tunnel. A hope!

'No. There's still a way!'

Jack exerts all the willpower he has to move his hand toward a bottle in his belt but fails. He didn't have any strength left to do it.

His breathing became shallow and slow. His eyesight dimmed until he could no longer tell the difference between a leaf and a trunk.

In that desperate moment, all he can do is pray.

"GOD! If this is really the end, could you give me a chance to see my wife and son one more time?"

As if his wish had been answered, the bag he had left in the tree suddenly fell and spilled its contents everywhere. A dark green bottle dropped beside his head, cracking the glass flask without spilling its content.

Jack smiled before muttering, "Thank you!"

He turned his head to the side, reached toward the bottle with his teeth, bits its tip, then raised it up. A smelly dark green liquid slowly slipped through the crack near its cap before flowing inside Jack's mouth. But before he could drink all its content, his consciousness already left him.

---

When Jack woke up, the surrounding place was already bright again. It seems that a night or more had passed since that incident.

He spat out the bottle of cracked health potion in his mouth before looking to the right and heave a sigh when seeing that the gruesome wound in his upper arm had already closed. It still feels a bit painful, but the blood doesn't come out anymore.

Jack moved it out of the dead wolf's jaw slowly before taking a closer look. The wounds really are healed! He could move it like usual, which means his injured muscles had already healed. The health potion saves his life.

After moving his body and finding nothing out of the ordinary, Jack went to the riverbank and drowned his head inside the clear flowing water. He drinks a few mouthfuls to relieve his thirst before taking it out again. He coughed a few times before smiling in satisfaction.

Spontaneously his body and mind feel rejuvenated by its freshness. It's like drinking a carbonated beverage on a super hot afternoon. Jack washed his face, hair, then all of the bloodstains in his body out before returning.

He looked at two dead bodies and pondered about a few things.

After a long sigh, Jack muttered a few words to comfort himself. "Fortunately, the second wolf was only just a cub. Maybe it's just following his mother while hunting.

"Luckily, they are a lone wolf by nature. I don't know what will happen if their species were hunting in a pack like wolves on Earth."

Jack picked up all his valuables before starting to butcher the little wolf and cook its meat. He didn't dare to eat the big one because its body had been poisoned by him yesterday. He only takes its gigantic canine tooth because it seems valuable.

'Maybe I can use it to craft a weapon just like in a game.' Jack thought.

Unusual items sometimes also carry a unique trait. Jack has a feeling that this fang is quite important material judging from its size and color. And because it didn't leave any other loot, Jack thought it would be a nice souvenir to have.

Unlike the one that he used as a spearhead and the pair that the cub has. This set of fangs look a bit darker, brownish-yellow with few unique black patterns in it. From his experience as a gamer, it definitely means something.

Actually, Jack wanted to bring its leather too because the silverish-black fur looked so luxurious. With its high durability, maybe Jack could turn it into leather armor. He couldn't imagine how cool and awesome it would be when he wore it.

Unfortunately, it would be too heavy to carry and will increase the chance of attracting another beast. So he abolished the thought.

When finished cooking the cub meat, Jack continued his journey along the river. He was thinking about many things along the way, but mostly about his battle against the wolf's monster.

When the afternoon comes, Jack immediately looks for the largest tree around before climbing it. He chooses a broad and comfortable trunk to rest before checking his status.

Pleased with what he finds, Jack drinks another bottle of health potion and calls it a day.

Jack sleeps with a thin smile on his face. A smile filled with relief and expectation. He couldn't wait to try something he wanted to do for a long time after seeing what his status looked like today.
