19 History Lesson

After discussing a few things with the old Librarian, Jack regained his optimism.

'The old man is right. I have knowledge from Earth on my side, and now, that is my strongest weapon. But I need to know about this world more, just like the original plan.

'The old man seems reliable as he is knowledgeable and wise. And a nice person at that. Asking him would be more efficient than reading all this book. I will ask him some important questions the next time we meet.

'Ah! I forgot to ask his name too.'

After that, he started reading about the geography and demographics of Palonia.

There are six kingdoms in Palona, and each one of them represents every race that existed in Terrenia.

The first is the Antiokia Kingdom, located at the heart of the continent. This kingdom is inhabited by Antiokian, who claim to be the most superior race in Palonia. They have golden hair, white skin, blue eyes, and balanced physical and magical power.

East of Palonia is ruled by Barbarians, a powerful brute with low mana capacity. Murador Kingdom with its council of 12. Barbarians have a compact and big body, with brown or red hair and eyes. Most of their region is a jungle with few plains and some marsh at its northeast.

Next is the Salamis Kingdom in the northeast, just above Murador. Their territory is surrounded by a large marsh with some plains and coastal areas. Khajit people who are skilled in camouflage live in this kingdom, a natural-born assassin. They have curly black hair, dark skin, and eyes of the same color.

They have a Dwarf race in the southeast region that is mostly covered with mountains and rocky hills. Unlike the dwarf that Jack knows, they have average height and a large build, with curly brown hair and a beard. Dwarves live in the Kingdom of Galilee, a paradise for blacksmiths.

Desert that covered west region inhabited by Yakut people of the Karkemis Kingdom. They are a race that is good at adapting to hot and barren climates, have good coordination, and almost unbeatable when fighting in the desert. They have wavy grayish-black hair, exotic gray eyes, and a standard build.

Southwest of Karkemis is the Sacred Forest of the Aruvindell Kingdom, where elf races dwell. This is the place that Jack wanted to visit most for obvious reasons. Elf races can change their hair and eyes color to match it surrounding, and they have high magical power but low physical strength.

And the last is the Avantheim Kingdom, where Jack is now. The real inhabitants of this kingdom are called Arkadian. But thousands of years ago, they lost the war against Antiokia Kingdom and are now ruled by one of their aristocratic families, the Thunderbird Family. That's why most of their soldiers have golden hair instead of black or brown. Arkadian have brown or black hair and eyes, just like Jack and Joran.

Today, only aristocrats keep their race blood pure, when most people have mixed-bloods from two or more races, so the latter tend to be more open-minded than the former.

Alexandrium is an example. The Adventurer's Guild has members from various races, and they didn't discriminate between pure blood and mixed blood. When at the Guild's Headquarter, Jack notices that many parties are composed of several races, this way, their formation will be more balanced.

After a series of reading sprees, Jack suddenly feels his head spinning. Reading a complicated letter for a long time consumes a lot of his mental strength. Without him realizing it, the dizziness in his head made it difficult for him to stand up. So he decided to stop reading and massaging his eyes instead.

A cool breeze touched his face, blew away the dizziness that plagued him. After some time, he realizes that the 50m x 50m x4m room is filled with books but didn't feel cramped like it should be. Rather than in a closed room, Jack felt more like he was in an open space instead.

The librarian has done a great job keeping the temperature, light, even humidity of the library steady to preserve the quality of the scroll stored inside. That's why they used colored glass as a wall and made half of the place underground.

'Brilliant!' Jack praised the librarian silently before suddenly a light bulb appeared above his head.

'Right! I need to see this matter from a different angle so I could also get a different answer.'

Jack pondered about it for a while before finally raising the corner of his mouth.

But when he looked at the sun's position, his smile suddenly dropped. 'It's not noon yet. What should I do while waiting?'

Realizing that he still has plenty of time before the interview, Jack decides to go on a shopping spree and upgrade his appearance from beggar to a proper adventurer.

The first impression is the most important. So Jack wanted at least to look like a proper human before meeting the Francis fella.

After returning the scroll book back to where it should be, Jack walked out of the library and returned to the Adventurer's Headquarter. According to the information he gained from townspeople, Adventurer's Guild has a large marketplace in their headquarters on the second floor.

This marketplace is used as a battlefield for the Adventurer's guild workshops to showcase their crafting skills. Merchants from all over Palonia often come here to hunt for their new and innovative products. At least a quarter of the money in the whole of Palonia is circulated here every month.

When reaching the Guild Hall, Jack could see adventurers filling most of the empty space, especially in front of the receptionist desk. To accept a mission, they must submit them first to the receptionist before receiving a contract from them.

After that, they will meet with the contractor, and the mission is officially started. Of course, this procedure does not apply to a bounty or collecting mission that works on a first-come-first-served basis. The first to submit the mission goals is the one who gets the rewards.

Walking amid hundreds of adventurers, Jack started to feel uncomfortable when their gazes kept following wherever he went. His face slowly turning red, he felt like a kid that wears a clown costume when the whole school is wearing their usual uniform.

The gaze keeps following him even when he has arrived at the Adventurer's Guild Bazaar. Especially from the shopkeeper. Their stare is like telling 'F*ck Off! You are disturbing other customers. The trash can is in the back, you creep!'.

But Jack didn't care, he kept exploring the football stadium size bazaar, but no matter where he went, Jack kept getting the same response. In the southeast corner, he finally found a humble shop guarded by a man in his forties.

The man is sitting leisurely in a rocking chair while puffing on a wooden pipe with his right hand. His long and wavy brown hair left unraveled behind his back while his left hand rubbed his brown braided beard.

When his brown eyes notice Jack walking closer to his stall, the brown-haired man gets up from his seat and says. "Welcome to Dragon Hammer. How can I help you, young man?"

The brown-haired gaze suddenly flickered with a shock when he saw what Jack was carrying.
