Blood and Death. (19)

"What will we do now?"

A valid question for our fearless leader who is sitting on the floor while being healed by the goat, he really is having a hard time dealing with the death element in Raven's body. A puddle of sweat is forming under him, if this continues, I don't know if he will have an aneurysm, a mental breakdown or pass out from being severely dehydrated.

"Unfortunately, we have little time now, during the fight downstairs a signal was sent out of the base. Because of this we will have to act quickly, you and Earth will search the underground rooms for information, matters are not very important to us as the temples will come here to purify the region after we return to Canos."

"Lightning! Start taking the prisoners away and start the interrogation, when I'm done here, I'll join you. The rest of you but Little Flame will help with the prisoners and watch the surroundings."

"Little Flame, you will help search underground for their work and bring anything valuable they find to the surface while they focus on exploring as many rooms as possible. We don't have much time, so everyone works as quickly as possible!"

With Raven's unfriendly tone as everyone ran off to do their chores, I joined up with Volkan who was already almost jumping on the earth like he was diving into a lake. Our decision for the very steep tunnel was an experience that reminded me a lot of falling, we slide taking advantage of the angle of the tunnel that Volkan creates when leaving the base with the group earlier.

It didn't take us a full minute to hit rock bottom.

"Is this the top floor or is there one more down?"

"There's one more, but we're not going down into that pool of death. Unwanted body parts should be stored there, the leader told us to go after information and not elemental materials."

"Well then, let's avoid the smell of death that must be deadly in that room."

"Smell must be really unpleasant, but the worst part must be the element of death. You don't know anymore the motherfucking necromancer who was in charge of this place had an element of corrosive death to the point that our leader's shadows were destroyed upon touching him. That pool of the element of death that formed on that floor must be the fourth place of work for that maniac who reeked of death."

"I don't have the courage or stupidity to break through the isolation of that room, I was even ordered to solidify the walls of that room so that the chances of that element of death escaping while we're here are impossible."

"Okay, these cultists must be a really dopey guy. The necromancer, Light and I captured before you left the ground showed clear damage from the element of death. The path this necromancer decided to take must be the reason he was thrown into this base in mine out of the blue, the rest of the cult shouldn't want to be around him."

"A really possible hypothesis, I can see why even other cultists didn't want to be around that necromancer who looked like a rotting corpse. A room behind this wall, is it okay for me to open it?"

Looking into the room behind the wall I could see very little elemental energy or mana.

"Looks like this isn't a material warehouse or a lab, maybe we found an office on the first try. I don't even feel a trap, Earth, but there can still be undead, and it's really annoying to notice them when they're hibernating so we'd better be careful."

"Okay."

Without taking his hand off the wall Volkan channeled his mana to his staff and after it entered the wall, an oval portal formed into the wall with incredible naturalness. It was as if it was always there, the earth around it didn't even show a change in its texture.

Volkan has impressive control over his magic.

I enter the room which is apparently empty, a quick look around the entrance I see very few items that contain some mana and elemental energy. As I had previously deduced from not even a human source material in this room, the mana and elemental energy comes from some magical tools and probably comes from the cultists who use the room.

Aside from two pairs of bunk beds on one of the walls this room looks like an ordinary office, looks like Volkan and I really got lucky. First room to explore and we've already found a lot of records, if we're lucky there may even be several massages read waiting to be destroyed in the trash or massages that haven't been read yet.

Massages are unlikely to have very important information since it is normal for their content to be hidden with euphemisms or even more complicated codes, but they are still clues that can help intelligence officers unravel the workings or movements of this cult and its affiliates.

The more information you gather about the cult, the easier it will be to discover its plans and the way they operate.

Upon entering the room, I went straight to the spots where I don't have an open field of vision, like behind cupboards, under the table and under the beds, but luckily for us all those places were clean. It doesn't look like there's even an undead hiding in the room, I know it's unlikely that necromancers would hide an undead under a bunk, but I still feel better checking these locations to make sure it's not even a threat.

"Undead'?"

"Not unless they've hidden one of them inside one of the furniture in this office. It would be a very unique strategy to hide an undead inside a wooden maxi piece."

"Very funny, Wolf, but today I've almost been bitten by the undead twice, and I hope I don't have to deal with any more of these pests."

"Why did the undead try to bite?"

"He was partially buried in the ground, as only his head was out, he could only try to bite me, but he didn't stop trying to bite me no matter how far I was from him."

That's commitment.

"He wasn't the smartest undead in the cemetery."

"We can't ask for much intelligence from a low-level undead, especially one who has just woken up from his beauty sleep."

"I thought they only slow down after hibernating, not idiots anymore."

"Using the word idiot might be a little strong, but basically their bodies are normal after waking up. Their problem is with their spirit or whatever is responsible for storing their intelligence and moving their bodies, I don't remember ever hearing a theory that makes a lot of sense since there are so many different types of undead."

"Perhaps the necromancers know but I doubt they will share their opinions anymore my point and that the undead think very slowly after waking up, the smartest ones are idiots when they wake up after a long sleep. I think this is why the most dangerous undead after waking up from a long sleep are living armor, finding them in ancient tubas is always a problem."

"What is the difference?"

"Tombs are usually narrow and have more than one of the undead in a corridor or chamber, but unlike the undead oysters the living armors don't have their movements greatly impaired after waking up, but as their function is basically to serve as a wall. and they don't have bodies to have their reflexes impaired by a long sleep, they turn out to be very dangerous."

"I didn't know you were a grave robber."

"Don't use that term, they make me look like a thief. To be more precise in discretion, I prefer to say that I was working in the area of recovering historical artifacts and researching ancient history."

"So, your previous work career was as a historian. That's why you're so used to dealing with the undead and that's probably the reason you're on this team."

"Exactly, well noted, but I have to say that the 'wild' undead are a lot easier to deal with than the undead we faced earlier. It was easy to deal with them in the tombs when compared to the wave of desperate undead that only threw at the agent during combat."

"Too many undead?"

"Not so much, but it was more than we expected, did you end up on your side?"

"I think so, the rest of the papers are useless to us. Did you gather all the reports on your side?"

"Yes, but it's a pity I couldn't even find a match. Did you find something like that on your side?"

"Unfortunately, not. Let's go to the next room."

"Okay, but what are we going to do with all these boxes? We are not going to carry them around with us."

"I already sent a signal for someone to come get the boxes, we just have to leave them outside in the main tunnel."

"Four boxes full of papers, I thought there would be more."

"They shouldn't have that foundation for a very long time."

"Let's go to the next room, Earth."

"I will open the way."
