Chapter 10: Dream

After a long day of work, and a hearty meal, Umber laid back on his bed after getting cleaned up.

His thoughts were all on what he did today,  from running until he was exhausted to making a blade.

He learned a lot about himself yesterday alone. What would tomorrow be like?

He was excited but also dreaded the exhaustion. Even now he was drifting into dreamland as he was lost in thought. He was recalling how his Dad had made that second blade. Trying to recall every subtle detail he could.

....

So though he did fall asleep and dreamed a vivid dream.

The man in dragon armor was fighting in a grand arena against a hideous monster.

It stood 10 feet tall (3m) and was covered in gray warty flesh. It had a repulsive bulbous belly, and long, lanky, spindly arms that end in long black claws atop its 4 fingers. It was made even harder to look at though as its legs were oddly thick. They were similar to an elephant's legs but more loose and flabby.

The thing's head was very humanoid though. It had greasy black hair loosely over its head that was too small for its body. It had protruding tusk-like teeth jutting out and as it let out a roar, it revealed yellowed fangs, jagged and rough.

The armored man was unfazed by this as he fanned away from his nose. In the next second,  the man put his foot forward and readied Claws for combat crackling with lightning.

The monster rushed him as he rushed forward. The man extended his wings taking flight and gliding over the lumbering behemoth. He latched his Claws into its back near its spine releasing an electric discharge.

The monster was unfazed and fell on its back to get the man off.

With a thud and he landed only to realize the man wasn't there. From above the man flew down with tremendous speed, crackling with lightning and a golden radiance. He hurtled head first, arms outstretched crashing into the creature's chest and digging the Claws in as deep as they would go before discharging an electric pulse.

The creature's chest caved in and it was severely burnt on its chest and back, but contrary to expectations its chest un-caved in and the burns healed themselves. The creature lumbered back to its feet.

It roared an angry roar and slashed at the man who had made it feel so much pain.

The man was writing in the air as though there was an invisible board he was writing on, not minding the monster one bit.

The man flapped his wings carrying him backward out of the way at the last second.

He said in a mechanical voice, "Test #32 Kinetic Generator Meteor: Effective. Most non-trolls would have died. However, damage to the suit was more than expected. Need to work on Kinetic dispersal. Generator was inadequate for the intended purpose. Overall it has potential, however, I believe if I wanted to make the most use of it I'd need to create a suit designed exclusively for it. Bringing test to a close."

His suit changed slightly. The boots shifted, opening vents in the side and on the bottom.

His Gauntlet Claws shrunk and a new one came out from in the palm.

The most notable change though was the visor. It was a closed-mounted dragon's head, but the mouth had opened and the eyes glowed a golden light. Inside the mouth was filled with sharp fangs, and at the back of the mouth was an intense golden glow.

The man spoke again. "Test # 417 Condensed Radiant Breath Lazer:

Beginning."

The intense light bloomed even further. The troll noticed this and shivered. Instead of blindly charging at him as before it ran in a blind panic, but it was too late.

"Fire."

A blast of golden light spilled from his maw, consuming the chest of the troll and turning it to ash.

The blast lasted for all of a second, but the damage was great. A smooth line had been cut in the ground from where it began. All that was left of the troll was a pair of feet comically on either side of the smoothed depression.

"Test  # 417 Condensed Radiant Breath Lazer: result complete disintegration save the target feet. I believe that it can be made total with an enlargement of the blast radius. Though in doing so I need to mind the power output, after all, more area means less concentration, I think it should be manageable. Simulation end."

The room fell to pieces in uniform chunks revealing a large white stone room, with a console by the door. The door opened.
