Unfolding The Gao Family Case

Weisheng and the woman sat back in the car after leaving Madam Yuan's residence. Weisheng eyed the woman from the corner of his eyes.

"Say what you have to say," The woman uttered fearlessly.

Weisheng cleared his throat, "I do not trust you," He told her fearlessly. "I agreed to this for my mother's sake. We can play along later. I need the case reports now. As you can see, I have work to do."

The woman smirked, "You are going to ignore the evil spirits who wanted to eat you?"

Weisheng's eyes widened. He had ignored it so far. But when the woman mentioned it again, it sent chills down his spine. He gulped and sweated. He could tell what he saw was real. He could feel something was wrong with him. He just didn't want to admit it.

"For now," Weisheng murmured, "I have to."

"Is that case so important?" The woman asked, "More important than your life?"

Weisheng frowned, "What do you mean?"

"Yuan Weisheng," The woman called him, "You have the Cursed Eye. It is a rare curse created by the Supreme Demon Lord 10,000 years ago. It gives you the ability to see the creatures of the after-realm, good or bad. It even comes with a little price! You live a terrible life and die a terrible death. Pretty sweet, isn't it?" The woman answered all his questions without having him ask.

He couldn't doubt the woman either. He had seen the ghosts with his eyes. He knew it was real more than anyone else. Maybe this sorceress wasn't a fraud.

"I can't die yet," Weisheng murmured.

"Of course!" The woman nodded, "So, how about you cooperate?"

Weisheng looked at her. She had a sincere look in her eyes. He wasn't sure why he could tell that, but he could. His grip on the steering wheel tightened, even though he wasn't driving.

"I need to send the case reports to my superiors first," Weisheng said, "Or he'll skewer my eyes."

The woman chortled, "Everyone seems to have a problem with your eyes."

"Right?" Weisheng chuckled before quickly repressing his expressions. Why was he getting comfortable around her? He shook his head. "Please," He said, holding his hand out in front of her.

The woman slowly nodded and put the case reports in his hand. He received it, quickly opening it to see if it was the same report.

"Where did you find this?" Weisheng asked with curiosity.

"I don't know," She shrugged, "Xiao Qiang found it for me," She casually added, "I'll ask her later. She is running another errand right now."

Weisheng's eyes narrowed. His eyes asked for more context, and the woman understood quickly.

"Oh," She chuckled, "Xiao Qiang is my disciple. Just like you." She smiled.

Weisheng cleared his throat, "I never said I took you as a teacher."

The woman raised an eyebrow, "Oh?" She asked sarcastically, "Who will fix your eyes then? Would you rather have an evil spirit make out with you in a hospital bed again?" She asked, making the poor man sweat in fear.

"No, Master," Weisheng replied like a diligent student.

The woman burst into chuckles, "That's more like it. Now that you've accepted me, let me introduce myself!"

Right. Weisheng's thoughts were so occupied that he forgot to ask for her name.

"I am Ren Xiaoling, your Shifu!" The woman smiled, "I would say I'm a successful sorceress, but I will let you judge that yourself."

Weisheng slowly nodded, acknowledging her at last.

"Would you like me to help you with this case?" She pointed at the case reports, "It could be a good practice for you, and you can also test my credibility."

Weisheng's eyes widened, "How can you help?"

"I'm a sorceress, Weisheng," She addressed him like a student, catching him off-guard. He was flustered. She chuckled, "And what do sorceresses do?"

"Control spirits and perform magic…?" Weisheng murmured in a questioning tone, hoping his knowledge derived from the media was enough.

"Correct. A little more than that, but correct." Xiaoling smiled. He noticed how she smiled a lot. He looked away before being branded as a creep. "I can help you with this case with my reach. I have eyes almost everywhere."

"Then please help me, Master," Weisheng decided to take her help. She was right anyway. He could test her credibility with this.

Xiaoling smiled and nodded. Weisheng handed her the reports, and she received them to go through them. After going through all the reports, she raised her head and looked at Weisheng.

"I think you should give these back to your Mr. Liu," Xiaoling said while returning the reports.

Weisheng's eyes widened, "How do you know my superior's name?" He asked.

"Oh," Xiaoling pressed her hand against her chin, "I think you can't see spirits while the Cursed Eye is suppressed," She muttered, "Because one of my disciples is sitting in the backseat, telling me everything about you." She smiled casually.

Weisheng's eyes widened and he turned to look at the backseat. It was empty. He frowned before turning to look at Xiaoling. The confidence oozing in her eyes destroyed his confidence. He gulped.

"You're playing games with me, right?" Weisheng asked with a hint of fear in his voice.

"Why would I lie to my dear student?" Xiaoling asked with a gentle voice, "Hai," She called someone while looking at the backseat, "Show yourself to Weisheng."

Weisheng looked at the backseat. A calm young man was seated in the backseat. Hai looked back at Weisheng through his round glasses.

"H-Hello…" Weisheng murmured, then looked at Xiaoling, "He doesn't look like a ghost," He whispered.

"Because I'm not a ghost, Mr. Yuan. I am merely a spirit waiting for reincarnation." Hai answered in his Master's stead.

Xiaoling smiled with pride, "You like my student?" She asked Weisheng. "Pretty handy, isn't he?"

Weisheng slowly nodded, still confused by the situation.

"I put Hai to tail you after your mother first contacted me. That's how Hai knows who Mr. Liu is. That's also how I came to rescue you earlier," Xiaoling explained, "And Weisheng," She added, "You can just ask me. I will answer if I find your question appropriate. Shall we unfold the Gao Family case now?"

Weisheng gulped, "Yes, Master."
