1 A BLESSING AND A CURSE.

"Honey !!!" Gina shouted from inside the bathroom.

Ken ran as fast as he could into the bathroom" Why ? what happened ?"

With shaking hands , Gina showed him the pregnancy tube .

Two lines .

"Is this what I think it means ?" Ken asked looking down at it with disbelief.

"You are going to become a dad !!" Gina squealed

The two couples hugged themselves .Just when Ken had lost his job .....a good news came along too .

5 YEARS LATER

"You've always been bad luck . you don't do anything right . See what you have done !" Ken shouted pulling 5 years old Kate's hair and dragging her to see the injury she had caused on her twin brother's leg.

"It was a mistake , father " Kate cried.

"Father , stop hurting Kate . I'm not severely injured" Nate begged his father as he tears streamed down his cheeks .

"Shut up.What do you know ?!"Ken barked at Nate "You are the only heir I have , you are not supposed to have a single scratch on you " he turned back and looked at Kate "And you, I get that you are jealous of your brother but that doesn't mean you should hurt him . I'll teach you a lesson . "

Ken smacked Kate's cheeks and pushed her against the wall . He beat her until she no longer begged.

He then turned to Nate and said " Come here son, let me dress your wound "

Few hours later when Gina got back home from work , she went to her twins room to hug her kids when Nate ran to her and cried " Mom "

Startled, Gina dropped her bags on the floor and held him "What happened?Are you hurt?"

Nate shaked his head" Dad..... Dad..."

"What happened honey ?"

Nate took his Mom by her hand and led her to Kate .

Gina screamed as she saw bruises all over her daughter .

Kate , who was sleeping woke up at the scream as she saw her mother .she smiled" Mom, you are back ?"

She stood up to hug her mum but winced in pain as her body hurt "Sorry, Mom. I can't meet you "

With shaking hands , Gina ran to her daughter and hugged her "It's okay , Kate . you can cry "

"If I cry that would make Dad angry"

Gina refrained from Kate and said "It's Mom that's here.You can cry "

Seeing her Mom, Kate's eyes welled up In tears "It hurts so much , Mom"

Gina hugged her daughter once more and then turned to Nate " Where's Dad?"

"Outside "

She turned back to face Kate " Mom would be back okay ".

"Don't go , Mom. what if.... Dad hits you too"

Gina was shocked to hear her daughter say that but she decided to give her assurance"It's okay , Dad won't hit me "

Gina left her kids room and actually prayed that her husband won't hit her.

When she went outside , she didn't see Ken immediately so she called out to him.

"Honey , I'm home "

Ken came out from behind a flower bed and smiled " Honey, what took you so long ?"

"What were you doing there ?"

"Ah, just planting more flowers .I missed you" Ken moved to hug his wife but Gina moved away.

Ken was startled by that gesture " Honey , what's wrong?"

"What's wrong?" Gina scoffed "You ask me that after what you did to our child?"

"Ah, you mean that bad luck ?"

"Badluck ?!"

"Didn't you ever find it suspicious how it was when you had a baby that I lost my job? it's because of that badluck!"

"Oh , cut the crap Ken . You are just looking for someone to blame your misfortunes on . If that was the case then both of them are badluck!. Please. I beg you , stop hurting Kate just because she's a girl . If you can't live with her , fine. I'll take her away with me and you can live with Nate "

"What did you say ?"

"You heard me . Hurt Kate one more time , honey and you will see what I'm truly capable of "

25 YEARS LATER

"Is everything ready?" Ken asked the helps.

"Yes sire " they replied.

"Okay"

"Honey ,calm down " Gina smiled.

"I can't calm down. I can't believe Nate is coming home ".

Nate had gone abroad at the age of 18 to study business so that he could come back and run his father's company as the new chairman.

After that incident that night 25 years ago ,it didn't take Ken long enough to start up his own business and now they owned one of the richest companies in the world.

Ken's phone rang " Hello, son .Are you on your way already?"

Nate smiled " Dad, you must be really anxious to see me . I can hear your voice shaking "

"Of course, I haven't seen you in a long time hurry up "

"I'm about to board.What about Mom?"

"Gina, Nate is asking of you hurry up! "

"Hello, son "

"Mom, I miss you "

"Me too. when would you be here ?"

"By 2 pm latest "

"Okay, I can't wait to see you "

"Right , Mom"

"Hmm"

"How about Kate? How is she ?"

"She is fine. If you miss her so much hurry back on "

KATE

I love my twin brother, Nate.That's why I always cover up for him things he did wrong.

25 years ago that incident that night , Nate didn't want to go to school so he intentionally hurt his leg.

Dad didn't even try to here my side of the story, he just assumed I had hurt him and beat me up .

Nate had felt sorry for what he did but I told him not to worry that he didn't do anything wrong.

To be honest ,I heard their conversation that night .

Mom had told dad that if he hurts me again, she would leave the house with me .

Ever since then, Dad never hit me again .

I told Nate that the reason was that he avoided trouble.

"If you avoid causing trouble, Dad won't hit me again"

"Really ? I'm going to be really good then ".

If that stupid jerk actually meant what he said then why ....why ....did his plane blow up just when he was supposed to be appointed chairman pointing everything back at me once more?

As the news caster reported the incident, Mom fell down and cried .

Dad looked around and saw me and with anger burning In his eyes , he dragged me by my hair and pulled me out of the house.

"Honey , stop" Mom pleaded running after him.

He took me to a barbing saloon and threw me down on the chair . He turned to the barber "Shave it "

My heart stopped . Shave what ? My hair?

"Honey ..."Mom called out shakingly .

I knew I had to do what dad said . It was better than him beating me though.

It was his way of relieving his anger. I was used to it by now.

"It's okay , Mom"I said making eye contact with Mom through the mirror.

"All off?" The barber asked .

"Low ,to that of a guy's own " Dad replied.

I tried to hold in my tears . Dad hates me being weak. He hates seeing me cry . If I cried, I would only make him angrier.

I watched as my hair fell off ,down to my shoulder.

I thought that was all and now dad has relieved his anger but he said "As of this moment , you aren't Kate Delore"

Wait, what ? Was he disowning me ?

"You are Nate Delore "
