Chapter 10

There was no way I’d say “no” to a fellow human being in trouble. Especially one who’d been near and dear to me for years, though he’d been an absolute shit at the end. “Sure. How about this? I lock up here in three hours. Come over to my house and I’ll cook us dinner.” At his look, I added, “It will be a healthy meal, don’t worry. Though a little extra fat and grease could only help you right about now.”

He rolled his eyes and stood. “You would say that. Thanks for the offer. I accept. I’ll be there…six-thirty okay?”

I nodded, then he left. I set aside my worries about employment and worked on ideas for a nourishing meal that Seb would enjoy and put meat on his bones.

I ended up making meatloaf, brown rice, green peas, and spinach, with homemade blueberry pie for dessert. Hopefully Seb would like it, fussy as he was. If he didn’t, I’d stuff it down his throat, then he wouldn’t be able to complain.
