Drew stared at the being in front of him. It stared back with empty and hollowed eyes. 'This must have been the ghost fiend the weird text was warning me about'

During his time at school, Drew has heard some of the stronger students talking about fiends. If he remembered correctly, Ghosts were one of the lowest level beasts that did little to no damage. This fact seemed to be confirmed by his system.

He also remembered that they were a type of beast that relied on speed. Although doing little damage, with it's speed, it was able to rack it up. This was going to be a problem for Drew.

He was already worn out from his fall, and his recuperative abilities. On top of that, his 'stats' seemed to have a significant decrease when compared to the ghost. The only advantage that Drew could have had, was that when the school offered a martial arts class, he took it. Of course, he wasn't able to stand up to any talented, but it would give him a small boost over the average human.

After a bit of a staring contest, the ghost decided to dart it. 'So fast!' Drew thought as it landed a punch on his shoulder. He hadn't been able to do much, just slightly change the point of impact. The punch didn't do much to him, it felt more like a slap or a push. 'Is that the endurance stat that I had been given?

He took advantage of the situation to throw a right hook. The ghost simply ducked, but that wasn't Drew's target. The right hook was a feint, while the real punch was a left uppercut from below. The carried momentum of the ghost dropping and his stub of an arm coming up did a massive amount of damage.

<You have done a critical hit! 50% damage added. Enemy has been stunned!>

The ghost's health dropped by 10! Drew wasn't going to let the situation go to waste. He followed up with hooks left and right, not letting his enemy get a chance to recover.

After continuous hits, and his fists bloody, Drew received a system message.

[You have killed - Tier 1 Ghost]

[1 stat point has been awarded]

[Quest completed - Survive encounter with Ghost]

{Reward: level up]

<Would you like to accept the reward?>

<Yes> <No>

Drew used his mind to select the <Yes> button. What could go wrong?

Suddenly he started to glow slightly, but if anyone saw him, they would have said that he looks like normal. Drew started to feel invigorated, and he could see that his health fully regenerated. Not only that, his arms and legs were fully repaired! 'It seems that by leveling up, I gain a full recuperation in a moment.'

|Level up received!|

|2 free stat points gained|

|+10 spirit points|

|10 free skill points gained|

|Skill menu unlocked!|

Drew first saw the stat points, and knew exactly what he was going to put them into. 1 point into strength and one point into agility, he also remembered the stat point he gained from killing the ghost, and put that one into agility as well.

The effects were active almost immediately. It wasn't much of a boost, but he could feel that both his speed and strength did increase by an amount significant enough to feel it.

His next point of interest was the skill menu. He was able to open it just by thinking about it. The skill menu had an array of skills, with most of them just blurred out. The only ones he had access to were the ones under level 1. There were a multitude of skills, each costing a certain number of skill points to unlock, but there was one that caught his eye.

|Raise Undead - gives the ability to raise any kind of tier 1 fiend. Luck will affect whether or not the fiend gets raised. While summoned: spirit points -20| {Cost - 50 skill points}

'Aww, 50 skill points? I really wanted that one' Drew settled for one of the lower level ones costing 10 skill points

|Essence leech - when coming into contact with something, you may use this ability to leech your enemies health. 5% of enemies health will be transferred over to user over 100 seconds. Cooldown: 1 hour. Per use: -10 spirit points.| {Cost - 10 skill points}

He thought that that would definitely be a useful skill if he went up against something like the ghost again while on low health.

The time was really late, and he thought that he should get back to his apartment. He started to walk away when he remembered the reason he had came. He looked back up at the tower and said,

"It's about time that I fit into this world. I have been giving a fighting chance, and I do not want to waste it. If I ever come back here, it's to burn this place to the ground."

...
