2 Orientation Day

The gentle sway of the trees and the fresh morning fragrances filled the air. The soft lights of dawn strengthened until it was a crisp early morning.

Today was orientation day. Rem stayed up way too late the night before. He was too excited to sleep.

Between the beginning of a new chapter of his life and his failure from his system the day before; he just couldn't fall asleep.

He hoped his beta-tester from the previous day would be okay.

Once the boy recovered from his concussion or the follow up beating he received; he would probably think the system as a result of his beating induced mental deficiencies.

Yesterday's failure inspired a score of new ideas for improving the next system that was already formulating in his mind.

He already made notes and a design outline. Sleep overcame him around three in the morning but he only slept for two hours before bounding out of bed with unending energy.

Attending System Maker Academy was his dream come true. It was the first and best academy of its kind.

Although many such academies have risen in subsequent years; System Maker Academy is recognized as the gold standard.

It is an elite school filled with only the best teachers, equipment, and students.

The G8 Gaming Company founded the Academy to develop new talent and competent employees.

All of the best system designers worked for G8, and if he could get a job there, he might even have a shot at getting an exclusive distribution deal on one of his systems! That's where the real money was at.

Right now, Rem was happily ironing his jeans and shirt. He washed all of his clothes for the day the night before. This morning he spent two hours of meticulous preparation for the orientation.

He wanted to look and smell his best. Countless cologne bottles, mouthwash, gum, deodorant, body spray, and hair products lay scattered around the sink in his bathroom.

Rem lived alone; he was an orphan and got by with the inheritance his parents left. It wasn't much, but it was enough.

Putting the final touches on his outfit, he looked at his reflection in the mirror one last time.

"There I am, a hot and smooth system guru! Time to meet some girls and kill some squirrels!" He said with a pompous laugh.

Shoving his laptop and a few other items into his satchel, he was ready to set out.

Grandpa Zai decided to haunt the house for the day. He was worried that if he went to the orientation, his spirit would dissipate from sheer boredom.

Locking the door behind him, Rem quickly walked toward the nearest bus stop.

The Academy was in the nice part of town, so he had to take the bus to get there.

Normally, he would ride his bike, but he didn't want to sweat and mess up all of his careful preparations. He was a lady killer system builder!

It didn't take too long for the bus to arrive. He swiped his card and found a seat next to the window.

Looking out the window of the bus, Rem could barely contain his excitement.

"Jon Wein!" a delicate girl's voice tinkled like a bell behind Rem.

At the sound of the cute voice, Rem was about to find its owner when he felt something wiggly near his leg and looked down.

A cute puppy shivered and wiggled excitedly. It tried with every ounce of excitable energy to gain recognition from Rem. It was like it was saying, "See me, love me!"

A young girl, about Rem's age, with apricot hair wearing a school uniform, tried to pick up the puppy. However, the bus made a weird turn, and she smashed her head into Rem's face.

Grabbing his face, Rem felt intense pain as blood spurted from his nose and trickled down his mouth.

The girl rubbed her head and moaned.

"Owe! stupid bus!" she complained bitterly.

She lifted her eyes, and staring back at her was a young boy with a black eye, bleeding nose, and busted lip. He looked like someone just beat him up for his lunch money.

The girl couldn't help but giggle at his pathetic image.

Immediately she regretted it because she realized she was the one who caused him to be in the shape he was in.

Rem tried to stop the blood from gushing out of his nose. He immediately knew all of his hours of careful preening and preparation were destroyed by this klutzy girl.

"Oh, I'm sorry, are you okay?"

"You're sorry? I couldn't tell with the giggling," Rem said sourly as his face continued to morph and swell.

The girl panicked and started ruffling through her bag. She fished out a couple of pills and offered them to Rem.

"Please accept these healing pills; I sincerely didn't mean to give you a pig's head!" She said with both sincerity and innocence.

"You're a pig's head," he immediately replied. The girl winced at his response. Feeling bad, he sighed and patted her on her head like he was consoling a child.

"It's okay, I'm sorry for yelling at you." Rem answered back as his face began to glow, and then eventually, returned to normal. It looked as if he was never injured.

"Oh, are you a trainer?!" the girl asked.

Pulling his phone out, Rem went to an app called Cloud Inventory.

He opened the app and swished his finger before finding a new shirt. He selected the shirt and dragged it on a 3d image of his body.

His bloodied shirt flashed and was replaced by the shirt he chose from his app.

He looked up from his phone and gave his best smug but charming smirk.

"I'm an all-rounder." Rem was very proud of being able to do every job it took to create a system.

"I'm Primm, Primm Rose, a healing specialist," The girl stuck out her hand toward Rem.

"Rem, Meag" He took the hand and shook it gently. Now that he got a look at her, the girl was pretty cute. Maybe he should get her number.

Finally noticing the logo on the girl's uniform, Rem got excited and forgot his major mishap.

"Ah, you go to System Maker Academy? I'm heading to orientation. It's my first year," Rem said happily to Primm.

"It's my first year too! I'm also heading to the orientation! We'll be classmates; how exciting!"

The two started trading happy, chatty talk as the bus continued to the Academy.

Not long after they began talking, the bus pulled up to the stop for the Academy. Rem and Primm exited the bus and walked toward the Academy entrance.

They needed to present their acceptance letter and insert some spirit energy into the ID register at the gate.

After they finished this procedure, they were given a temporary badge and informed they could pick up their permanent student ID later in the afternoon.

Older students were gathering the freshmen and giving tours. The morning Orientation wouldn't start for a little while.

The tours were meant to help new students familiarize themselves with the school grounds.

Some of the students, including Rem, would live in the dorms. The tour guide showed them where the girls' and boys' dorms were, as well as the cafeterias.

There were four dorms for each gender. They were divided into Freshman dorm, sophomore dorm, junior dorm, and senior dorm. There were also apartment complexes for staff and faculty.

The students were warned never to bother their teachers in their off-hours. They were especially warned against going to their homes.

Mostly it was new and young faculty and staff who lived in the apartments. It was convenient for small families and single teachers to live on the school grounds.

There were even some nice parks around the apartments.

The new students could see some families playing with their small children on a playground.

The tour passed each of the general academic buildings to take their basic freshman English, reading, and history classes.

The other academic buildings such as the Science Hall, Math building, and Philosophy building were located in another area.

The last part of the tour took them to the specialist buildings.

The specialist buildings were the specializations needed for system making.

There was the Training Hall, for hopeful trainers to learn things like martial and cultivation arts, cross-species anatomy, and physiology among other topics.

Seven main specialty halls taught the basic to advance knowledge needed to make systems. The seven halls were the Trainer Hall, Technologies Hall, Medicine Hall, Tamers Hall, Computer Sciences Hall, Soul Hall, and the Business Hall.

These halls contained the Major and Minor classes needed to become experts needed to create System Development Teams (SDT). An individual from each specialty worked together to make the Systems used throughout the many multiverses.

Carefully paying attention to every word the Tour Guide said, Rem's eyes glowed as he dreamed about his life in the Academy.

"Oh, it looks like our time is up; let's head to the lecture hall for the orientation. Follow me!" The cute senior girl tour-guide said to the group.

Primm smiled happily at Rem as they followed the group to the lecture hall.

Rem wasn't exactly looking forward to the actual boring orientation, but, at the very least, after it was over he would call himself an official student!
