3 Orientation Day (2)

As if they returned to their days in elementary school, the students lined up.

Directed by the senior tour guide, they entered the lecture hall in an orderly fashion and sat in an assigned spot.

Rem and Primm were placed around the middle area in the large lecture hall. A simple empty stage with a lectern and microphone was ready.

The stadium seating made it easy for all of the students to view the speaker.

Currently, about two hundred students were waiting for the morning orientation to begin.

The Academy split the total freshman class, around four hundred students, between the morning and afternoon orientation.

After the orientation finished, he would take care of the paperwork, get his dorm key, and go to lunch at an on-campus cafeteria.

The layout of the Academy was similar to a small college. It was one of the smaller Academies, but G8's System Maker Academy was elite. It only recruited the best of the best from across the multiverse.

Considering that the Freshman class only had around four hundred students from across a nearly infinite number of universes gives an idea of just how elite these students are.

Rem looked around at the students as they entered the hall and took their seats. Mostly the students were humans, but there were several other sentient beings. He marveled at the diversity of the students.

"Ooh, is that a Goldux Beastman (Invincible Hero Chapter 24)?" Primm asked Rem. Rem followed Primm's line of sight and nodded in agreement with her.

"He would be great to have as a Weapons Maker for a team," she said to Rem, who only nodded.

"Not that I would need him; as an all-rounder, I could probably do his job better than him." Rem thought to himself.

"Oooh, it's a Dinosaurman (Invincible Hero Chapter 8), she looks like a triceratops girl.

I wonder what her specialty is. Dinosaurmen are notorious for being stupid and vicious, they make good trainers, but if she's from a herbivore clan, she could be almost anything." Prim commented.

Eventually, the lecture was packed with students. A senior student with red hair in the Academy uniform, a white shirt, black pants, and black tennis shoes, approached the microphone.

"Hello everyone, I'm your student council president Denny Drake, or you might know me better by my system ID, RR, Red Raccoon."

The students broke out into murmuring among themselves. The girls were thrilled to see the cute upperclassman. Not only was he handsome, but he was already becoming a legendary programmer and project leader.

G8 already offered him an internship once he graduated from the Academy.

The system he developed as a project leader in his Junior Year, "Mysterious Mage System," won several awards and placed first in The National Junior Deluxe System Competition.

Rem just humphed and thought to himself, "Ha, there's no need to get excited, wait till I start putting out my systems. I'll win all of the competitions!"

Primm heard Rem's comment and saw his confident smirk. She laughed a little. Her new friend was certainly full of himself. She didn't mind so much; she could tell how much he loved making systems. She was the same.

Feeling Primm's eyes on him, he turned hesitantly to look at the girl, "what?"

Primm couldn't help but laugh.

"I was marveling at how overconfident you are. I know you keep calling yourself an all-rounder, but do you think it's really possible to create a system by yourself?"

"Sure, why not?"

"Why not? Have you made a system yet?"

"Sure, I've made several systems!" He responded with great confidence.

"Oh, and how many of them worked?" she asked with a giggle.

"Well...you know...Uhm, none?" he said.

"None of your systems have worked, but you feel so superior? "Do you know why you haven't made a working system yet?" she asked.

"Well, there are different reasons for why each of the systems failed. Sometimes it's a programming glitch, but a lot of the times it's the stupid beta testers," he began to complain.

"Wrong." Primm cut him off as he started to ramble.

"Wrong?"

"Yes, wrong. Every one of your systems failed for the same reason."

"What reason?"

"You tried to do everything by yourself and failed to perfect the system as a cohesive unit. It would help if you had a team where each person is responsible for their part of the job.

An all-rounder like you isn't meant to solo the system making. Being an all-rounder makes you ideal as the project leader, but doing everything by yourself, that's foolish!" Primm said.

"Ha-ha, what have I been telling you for years. You never believed me, but here you have this cute little girl whose telling you the same thing!"

Rem turned behind him and saw Fezz sitting behind him with a mocking smile.

"Oh, is this your friend?" Primm asked.

"Friends? We used to be friends until this arrogant guy decided he could do everything alone!" Fezz mocked.

Rem was getting annoyed by Fezz's intrusion.

"I didn't stop working with you because of that; you kept relying on me to do all of the jobs on the projects. I stopped working with you because you were useless!" Rem said.

Fezz got really angry and sneered at Rem, "Every time I made something, you critiqued it and redid it on your own. You never appreciated my work!

I stopped trying because you were going to do it yourself anyway!"

The argument between the two boys drew everyone's attention to them. The speaker Red Raccoon was irritated.

"Hey, if you kids want to argue, go outside and stop interrupting me!" Red Raccoon said.

Both Rem and Fezz were embarrassed getting called out in front of everyone.

"Sorry," they both said at the same time. Prim giggled at the two boys.

Rem turned around and crossed his arms as he was fuming.

"Okay, that brings me to the next piece of business. After lunch, you need to register your project teams. If you are by yourself or don't have a complete team, you will have team members assigned.

You won't be able to request a project team change until the winter break. My advice is to spend lunch finding people you can work with over lunch," Red Raccoon said.

"What? We have to form a team?" Rem asked startled.

"Ha Ha, look at this guy, based on his face you would think someone told him to eat a cow paddy! Mwa ha ha!" Fezz added.

It didn't help that everyone was looking in their direction again. Rem decided to accept his fate.

Primm and Rem turned to one another at the same time and said, "Want to be on my team?" both of them laughed.

"Let's invite your friend; then we'll only need four more people," Primm said.

"You want to invite Fezz?" Rem asked askance.

"I've got a good eye for people; I think he would be a great addition to the team," she said.

"Fezz? Do you even know his specialty?" Rem asked.

"He's a trainer, and a very good one," she said.

"How'd you know?" Rem asked, confused.

"He's won a lot of Trainer competitions in Middle School, didn't you know? Everyone knows about Fezz." Primm said, confused.

"Really, Fezz?"

"Yes, Fezz, you moron! You're so lost in your own world you have no idea that there are people other than you who know what they're doing!" Fezz whisper shouted at Rem.

"Fine, but I'm Project Leader, and you have to do what I say!" Rem said.

"Then I'm the Project Manager, and I get to veto what you say when I disagree," Primm said proudly. With that, she stopped talking as if the matter was settled.

Rem was about to object when senior Raccoon started speaking again.

"Alright, everyone, that's it, you are free to take care of your business, get some lunch and register your project teams. Dismissed!" Red Raccoon said while glaring at the chatty trio.

Off to the side of the stage, an older man was also looking at the three disruptive kids. "Sir, is it okay letting the little princess team up with those two blockheads?"

An attractive woman around thirty wore a black business suit with a skirt, black-rimmed glasses, and a bee-hive hairstyle. "We'll let her be for now." He looked at Primm and her new friends with a peculiar look in his eyes.

"Don't worry Priscila, my granddaughter knows what she's doing. Although, I don't trust those two boys. They better not try busting any moves on her, or I'll make them regret it!" he finally huffed.
