Chapter 13

Tite: Practice on a ship(2)

A few days have passed since they left the port of Zaun. Phesto has been progressing with his skill quite nicely. Every day would begin with Nejime teaching Phesto something new, Phesto trying to apply it during the day and then the two of them discussing their progress during the evenings.

After the second day, Phesto was able to convince Nejime to start practising again. And so she often practised together with Phesto during the day. Whenever they practised together Phesto used his system to try and analyze Nejimes skill progress. Though she at first couldn't concentrate on practising whenever Phesto tried to analyze her, she eventually got used to it, while Phesto also got better at being more subtle with his analysis.

Using his mana sense, and the system to analyze people Phesto, realized how difficult it actually was to get proper data and insight into another person and their abilities. His mana sense was too easy to notice as his mana had to interact with the other person's mana flow and enter their body to get a grasp on their magical and physical attributes. On top of that, he couldn't sense the soul of a person and he had no idea how to go about with divine energy.

Still, even with all its flaws and difficulties if a person was willing and didn't stop Phesto's mana-sense, then he was able to get a decently comprehensive summary of a person's constitution and abilities.

The summary he got from Nejime was quite interesting as well.

[Nejime, Rogue Princess of Shurima

State: Healthy(crippled)

Physical Strength: 7

Magical Strength: 83

Conditions: Overflowing Magic]

[Overflowing Magic:

A phenomenon occurring whenever too much magic accumulates in a person and their physical body cannot withstand the force of the magic, limiting control and causing slow physical deterioration.]

'System, what standard are you using for the numerical stats?'

[The standard used is the average strength seen in the people of this world. Currently, it cannot be guaranteed that the stats are accurate as the data gathered until now is still fairly limited.]

'So the better I get at mana sense and other perception-based skills the better and more accurate future information will be.'

It was sensible enough, though Phesto was still a bit disappointed that it made sense. He already reincarnated into another world, so why did things even have to make sense anymore? Shaking his head he ignored that for now, not much he could do about it anyway, and he instead moved on to Nejime's condition.

The main issue with Nejime was her disproportional amount of magic in her body. It has caused her to only be able to vaguely control her magic, causing her to not be able to use any sort of complex spell or skill.

So to improve her situation the areas that need to be tackled are, first are her magical control, so it would cause less damage to her body and secondly strengthening her body so it could bear the brunt of her magical force.

He had two skills that could help her, and those were Energy Sense and Energy Strengthening. Energy Sense could help with the fine-tuning of her magical energy reducing the damage it causes to the body while Energy Strengthening would slowly nourish and strengthen her physical body.

Though many of the theories behind the applications of energy, especially Energy Sense, were taught to him by Nejime, thanks to the system he was able to gain a bunch of insight on it as well, so he definitely had something he could teach her as well. As for Energy Strengthening, it was something he figured out mostly by himself using the insight he gained from Nejime's teachings and applying it to his style of meditation.

And if all of that didn't work she could always start working out the old fashioned ways, stamina and strength training as well as a good diet. With everything in mind, Phesto told Nejime about his idea.

"Nene, you know how I've been using my mana sense to check your body. I think I know what's wrong with your body now, and why do you have so many issues using and practising magic?"

Her eyes widened in shock and slight disbelief. "Are you sure you know what's wrong? Many skilled doctors couldn't find what was wrong with me."

"I think it's because technically there isn't anything fundamentally wrong with your body. From what I could tell it's because you have an incredible amount of magical energy in your body and your body can't handle it. That should be the reason why it's difficult for you to cast spells."

"Hmm..." Closing her eyes Nejime thought about what Phesto just said.

"So since my body can't handle my magic I need to get my body to a stage, where it can handle my magic?"

"Pretty much, though on top of that, you can also improve your control over your magic that should reduce the damage it does to your body."

"It's worth a try, but training my body? Who knows when I last did that." Nejime said with a slight sigh. It seems she did not look forward to physical training all that much. Then again he could understand her.

"For that I think, I have an idea. I've recently been meditating while using my energy to strengthen my body. I'm not sure how effective it is for you, since you have difficulties controlling your energy but I can always help you."

Again Nejime was shocked, it really seemed like Phesto had a hobby telling her about ridiculous things one after the other. "I really shouldn't be shocked anymore, but yes I do need your help practising this meditation skill you have. If this actually works I'll owe you. Both for the skill and the fact that you helped me use magic."

"Nah, it's fine, after all, I'll be relying on you when we reach Ionia. You're the one who has a family crest token or whatever it was. So yeah, just help me out a bit in Ionia and the debt is settled. Also, I'd like to consider you a friend, so that much help should be expected"

Hearing Phesto's response Nejime smiled warmly while shaking her head. "Expected? Those are quite the beautiful standards you have. Not sure if the royal court taught me to be awful or you are just a good person"

"Probably both?"

After talking some more, Phesto started teaching Nejime his Energy Strengthening skill. And as expected at first she could not use it without Phesto's help.

Over the next few days, Nejime got more and more proficient in the Energy Strengthening skill and was eventually able to use it without Phesto's help. When Nejime didn't need Phesto's help anymore she got much more vigorous in her training improving by leaps and bounds. Seeing her improve Phesto also got much more motivated in his training.
