23 Adam the smith?

It took a couple of days and a lot of rework, but Adam managed to build both the forge and a sword for Yorky. The blade was not of steel or iron but rather bronze.

Adam did know a lot about the materials needed for forging and how to do it because he had played a super-realistic game where he needed to gather the materials and do all the work step-by-step. However, he had never done it in real life. He learned a lot with the help of the system as it could point out flaws in the process and the results immediately.

With the remaining materials, he was able to place bronze tips on his two small spears. He also made a small bronze knife for himself. Some of the ores Yorky had provided did not work out for Adam. When heated, the mineral inside did not melt, so there was no way to extract the metal. He supposed he needed a better forge that reached higher temperatures. He put those apart and decided to keep them for later.

Adam then waited for Yorky to enter the house. Since he moved in, he noticed that Yorky came in at least three times a day. He was unsure if the Tengu was checking up on him or just missed his hut. Around noon the small creature came in with a couple of cooked pieces of meat.

"Hey, Yorky. How are you?" asked Adam.

"Hi, human. Here is food" he said while handing one of the pieces of meat to Adam.

"Thanks. I have good news. Look at this" said Adam and presented the sword to Yorky. He made it fit Yorky's size, so it should be called a shortsword for humans.

"YEY. Great. It done" was all Yorky could say when seeing his very own weapon. The Tengu then took the sword, walked to the middle of the room, and started swinging the sword around.

"I'm glad you are happy with what I made for you, but please be very careful. I sharpened it very much, and I don't want you getting hurt now" said Adam. "I have a couple of things to ask you, so let me know when we can talk".

"Ask. Ask. I listen while I try sword" answered Yorky.

"Ok. So I noticed all the food comes from the monsters that attack the village. Do you guys eat anything other than meat?" asked Adam. "Don't get me wrong, I like meat, but I am craving rice or a salad".

The Tengu was still playing around with the sword and barely noticed Adam had finished speaking.

"No. Not know rice. Not know salad. We eat other things when live in cave. Big mushrooms, the size of new Tengus" answered Yorky.

This line of answers interested Adam. Yorky had been quiet about the tribe's life very coming to the village. He supposed the happiness of owning the weapon and the distraction he now could see had broken the barrier.

"Has the Tengu's changed in any way due to the new diet?" asked Adam.

"Bigger. Skin less dark. Not smart like cave Tengu" answered Yorky. He then noticed what he had just said, lowered the sword, and focused on the conversation. "You not repeat this. New chief gets angry"

Adam smiled at this. He walked to the creature and sat down right next to it.

"Of course I won't repeat that you said the new Tengus are dumb, Yorky. You are my friend, and friends do not do those kinds of things to one another. Right? You consider me your friend, correct?" asked Adam with a big smile on his face.

"Yes. Yes. Human friend of Yorky" answered the Tengu.

"That is great to hear, friend. As friends, we need to stay united and help one another, as I just did by creating this sword for you. You can help me by answering my questions. I need a lot of information and help to convince the chief of some things I want. That is not going to be a problem, right, friend?" asked Adam.

The Tengu looked at Adam with a mix of annoyance and fear. It was the first time someone had used manipulation of this kind on him. The Tengus were too simple to do it, and there were no other sentient beings in the village.

"What want to ask?" surrendered Yorky after a moment in silence.

"What do I need to do to become chief of the tribe?" asked Adam.
