The Undeciphered Case

"Ash Evans. What you did was pretty daring back there." The Chief said.

"I'm sorry about that, Chief." Ash replied.

"I'm going to let you off the hook for now, but remember, if you try to go against the law, you might pay a high price for it one day." The Chief warned her.

Ash's face flushed as she bowed down and walked towards the door.

Ash slumped against her seat as she looked at her screen. No signals yet.

Daniel was working on the maps. Katherine was off duty. And as for Jake, he was nowhere to be seen.

Ash looked at Alex who was rapidly going through his documents.

"What are those documents about?" she inquired.

"Some papers that have information on cases left unsolved." He replied.

"Can I have a look at them?"

"Sure."

As she was looking through the cases, she noticed Alex looking intensely at a document.

"What's that?"

"The undeciphered case of Zalia Zalinsky. Dozens of victims were murdered brutally. Different methods each time, but she always wrote a code at the site of murder using her victim's blood. ' D S 3 5 9 4 2.' We still haven't been able to decipher what it means. It was a case that happened four years back."

"How long did it continue? Have the murders stopped?" Ash said.

"Continued for as long as an year or so. One victim was saved by the Bureau, but we weren't able to see who she was. The victim kept on murmuring her name back then, and that's how the infamous Zalia was born."

As they were discussing the case, the signal beeped. It was a red signal.

"We've got a murder case. Quick! Call for the vans!" Daniel shouted.

"We haven't got a murder case since an year or so. The town's been quiet for some time now. Has it started again?" Alex whispered.

"What has started?" Ash asked.

"We'll think about this later. Let's go catch our prey."

Was Ash imagining things? She could see Alex smirk.
