Character design and development is too inexperienced and lacking. Shang our MC comes of as an edgy teenager. He wants to be alone and thinks everyone is his enemy. Acts like he has no choice but to be alone, runs from his problems, etc. I understand that the author wants to portray "power is everything" vibes but it just seems cringe when he starts killing his only friends because they doubt his intentions. The world background is amazing but everything about the main character gets worse and worse as the story goes on.

I'd say this novel has similitudes with TBATE. There are no systems, only a well written world and a mc wich gets stronger has he explores it, he is never overpowered and I like the fact that it's not the "mc is incredible and everyone else is just dumb" story. One of the novels that I keep on reading everyday when new chapters drop

Love this book so far and I am fatuated with the character and his development. The world building is god tier imo with very concise explanations where you can picture it.

Very well written. Easy to read and relatively expansive vocabulary. But when it comes to char and world design, I think the author is very confused about the meaning of "goal". Tiny spoiler : Shang wants to be the most powerful guy. That's it. It's his "goal". The problem is that he wants power for the sake of power and nothing else. Shang's goal is actually the means, but means without a goal is pointless, so Shang is a robotic character : he does something methodically without even knowing why. So, he does atrocious things without a purpose, just for the sake of it. Shang is, in dnd terms, the epitome of Chaotic Evil. I have seen people mocking reviewers who think like me for being "weak minded". It's not true, I like evil protagonists but when they are evil for a true purpose/goal, not for the sake of being evil. I mean Shang destroyed and killed thousands for absolutely nothing. If at least he was willing to be the worst to do those massacres in order to help/save/protect something/someone precious, but no he's just an apathetic robot.

the author only cares about the money and not about the novel itself. started great but it is clear no love being put into the novel novadays. but it is still one of the better novels in this platform. use the money somewhere else

If there's one thing I like... It's reading a fantasy novel with dark soul level difficulty of survival... Unique monsters as well... Wait a minute... This might actually be another Shadow Slave book that's worth following the daily uploads...?!?

This author's mind is just built different. This whole novel can only be called "Amazing"! Sure, there might have been a few bumps across the story, such as when he puts some info dump, or during timeskips, but that's mostly negligible compared to the rest of the story! I'm currently around chapter 470 by the time I wrote this, and i can say that this story has the drama that no other novels ever had, including his previous work, Lightning is the Only Way. First, writing quality. There may be some rare flaws that the proofreaders might have missed, but they are immediately corrected at the present time. Second, story development. So, this story is both simple, and complicated. In simple terms, Sword God in a World of Magic is a story about Alex, or Shang, who tries to bring balance in power by showing that melee warriors are just as strong as mages. In complicated terms, Shang has to deal with the absolute power that belongs to the mages. He needs to work all the way to his bones, sometimes literally, to have the slightest bit of chances to win. You may rarely see some slap moment, but that just show how powerful mages truly are. If you feel like warriors deserve some spotlight, remember that this story is about making warriors capable of fighting back mages. If that was the case from the beginning, there wouldn't be a story at all. Third, character design. This is just... *Chef's kiss* This is like one of the most grim and realistic takes I've ever read about a fantasy world, and there is no plot armor saving the protagonist that comes into my mind. What saved him most of the time was his own work, and for the few times that it wasn't the case, he had to pay a "fee" for victory. And let me tell you, the fee isn't cheap! Shang, God, the Dean, the Duke, his classmates, his friends... Even random people got actual personalities! I've seen more depth in a guard of a farm than an average anime girl! Updating stability... Well, what can I say? 2 chapters every day. It's great. As for world background... I don't know what else to say that I haven't mentioned in Story Development. But yeah, this author's imagination goes all the way to the stars just by using the resources available for him. Just... Just read it, I don't think I can properly explain how good this novel is with words alone. Worth every cents spent...

"perfect as everything should be" Well coming from the same writer who wrote "lightning is the only way" which is my favourite novel here on this app it should be expected to have something of this quality. as the world building, the side characters details, the mc emotional development and the power system are all top notch. my only problem with this novel so is that the writer doesn't write more chapters -as if any number of chapters would satisfy me anyway😂- but all in all thats a quality novel and one of the rare gems on this app and I recommend it fully.

(I will specify this review is being written with 28 chapters) So far the MC is unique in the way that while he focuses on power its not for revenge or because he wants to be better than someone else (read it if you want to know why) he also doesn't start off as overpowered or overly intelligent he has been learning as he goes. He isn't off the bat a genius like no other this novel isn't full of clichés like many other stories I've read and so far it has been a fun read I can't wait to see what comes of it

the story is pretty great almost all the way through. then.....towards the end the author obviously got tired of the story and just gave some garbage ending.

Shallow. Would be how I'd describe this work if i had to use one word. The world building, including the history of the world and the current situation, is well thought out and complete. Some of the characters are interesting and have some hints of depth. Unfortunately the story itself and the MC falls flat. As much as the author tries to show how the MC struggles with his inevitable loss of humanity and moral degradation it's obvious where the story will go. And at the end of the day if the MC doesn't care about people or the world as a whole, is shallow and doesn't ever have any complex emotions other than anger and hate at his own powerlessness and the joy whrn he gets powerful as well as an internal weak struggle against killing first his enemies, then bystanders, then innocence, in a fashion that was obvious from the very beginning. It's like watching a meandering train wreck in slow motion; on a clear, unsightly track than you can see the start and end. And that's about as much emotional depth you'll ever get out of the MC with no exceptions. We see the world and the story through his eyes so as they are dull and grey the rest of the work takes the same hue. The MC wants power. Thats's it. They go over the question of "then what?" breafly but then it's casually glossed over and thrown aside. It's a immature mindset of people who haven't experienced enough to know the difference between the means and the ends. The MC is boring, tiresome and depressing and it unfortunately taints the work with these same features.

I have been reading novels for a long time now, but so far, this is the only one that has been able to properly depict such a comple and dark character. A world outside cliches with proper methods and explanations. This novel has been an incredible ride

it almost convinces you it's different but we soon realise it isnt't . just a typical CN wuxia type Novel in which the MC is Chad thundercock willing to kill all for just a minuta of power .

So this is the end of my journey. It was a good read, I loved shang's progress. Apparently you want to redeem him. Too bad I would have liked him to continue his path to power. Anyway, very good job and good luck in your future projects.
