Chapter 35: A Tale of Two Tables 2
Ivy could hear faint voices calling out her name. She tried to find her way toward the voices, but all she saw was darkness. She fought hard, and suddenly she could see light.
Ivy blinked, and when she opened her eyes, she was lying on a fainting couch, surrounded by her friends, while Kim knelt by her side, weeping quietly.
“Ivy,” she squealed when Ivy opened her eyes and embraced her. Ivy could see worry written on all of their faces. She had such a horrible headache.
Ivy winced as she tried to sit up. Had she had a horrible nightmare, or had she actually heard everything in reality? Was another woman having a child with her betrothed?
“I gave him three years of my life! How could he--”
“Shh, Ivy. Just rest a bit!” Jane said.
“Did you know?” Ivy asked as she looked at Jane.
“No! I knew there was something amiss about him, and I had heard rumors about their company being broke, but I didn’t know he had a mistress,” Jane said.
