32 Matesick

Caesar settled down on the chair and reached for the glass of wine he'd poured himself.

"You know you can come in, right? I don't really appreciate you two snooping around," he mumbled, annoyed.

The door of the room was pushed open, and a male figure walked in. Following behind him was Diana.

"Why are you here, Yuri?" Caesar questioned, tilting his head to glimpse the silhouette behind him. "And why did you bring her along with you?"

Yuri, clad in a casual blue sweater and a pair of jeans, raised his hands defensively. "I didn't bring her with me. She followed me." His gray eyes glared at Diana, who was still standing behind him.

Caesar exhaled through his nose, irritated. "Why are you here, Diana?"

Diana slowly stepped out, her fingers gripping her black leather pants. Her large puppy-like eyes stared at him, and she whined, "Y-you, you met her...again."

"Mhm, I did," Caesar confirmed, playfully swirling the wine inside the glass in the grip of his fingers. "Is there a problem?"

Diana shook her head, her eyes tearing up. "You…marked her. Why-"

"Wait, what?" Yuri cut her off, hurrying forward to sit on the chair opposite Caesar. "You didn't mark her, did you?" His face crinkled into a horrid frown.

Caesar gulped down a mouthful of wine and shook his head.

"No, I didn't."

"Then why did I smell your scent all over her? She reeked of you, sir!" Yuri expressed with his hands, deeply concerned.

Caesar cocked an eyebrow, his gaze moving from Diana to him. "What do you think I did?" he asked.

Yuri thoughtfully creased his forehead at his question, and in a few seconds, his pupils gradually dilated. He quickly pulled back with a heavy gasp. "You…scented her? Fuck, you actually scented her!"

"Why would you do that?"

"I craved to do it and did it on impulse," Caesar responded. "I couldn't help it."

Yuri was still finding it hard to believe. "Really? Just because you craved it? Why don't I believe you?" He shook his head, a frown settling on his face. "There has to be another reason. You have good control over your cravings, so I know you wouldn't just do that because you wanted to. What is it?"

Caesar threw his head back, exhaling heavily.

"She's sick. Matesick, to be precise," he finally answered, throwing a hand over his face.

Yuri blinked, his head tilting to the side in cluelessness. "Mate…sick?"

"Yes. It occurs in omegas too." Caesar leaned forward, pouring himself another glass of wine. "Apparently, it seems that being married to another while being mated to a supreme alpha like myself is causing some kind of issue for her. And the only way to stop it entirely is to mark and bond her to me."

"But I can't do that, not yet." He shook his head. "The only thing I can do now is scent her with every chance I get to suppress it. I figured it'd help."

Yuri slowly nodded his head, biting his lip. "I see. Isn't there any other way to stop it entirely without marking her?" he inquired.

Caesar lifted his head, shooting him a distressed look.

Yuri was a bit taken aback, unsure why he'd just given him such eyes.

Was there a problem?

Caesar rubbed his temple, sighing wearily. "There is a way, but I won't accept it."

"Huh?" Yuri raised a single brow. "A way? What way?"

"Rejection," Caesar said, his wolf suddenly anxious at the sound of that word. "If she rejects me, she will be free from it."

"Oh." Yuri fluttered his eyes wide. "That's…"

"You wouldn't allow that, will you? It doesn't seem like you want her to reject you, vice-versa. Or...am I getting it wrong?"

Caesar's hands clenched into a fist, and he growled unintentionally, swallowing down the full glass of alcoholic liquid.

"She's my mate, and rejection is not an option. If I have to keep scenting her, I'll do it until I can fully take claim of her."

Yuri stared at him for a few thoughtful moments and shook his head, relenting.

A complete human…a mate to a supreme alpha? Not even a standard alpha, but a supreme alpha? What would the thoughts of the standard alphas be when they find out about it? About the fact that the mate to the only supreme alpha in their pack was a human?

Not to mention Caesar's father. There was no way he would allow it.

Caesar's father may be an alpha who luckily had a special child, the one and only supreme alpha in the Red Night Pack. But in the end, he was still a standard alpha and his own son unfortunately ranked above him.

Being a supreme alpha was one of the reasons Caesar was worshiped in their pack, to the extent that they even obeyed him more than they did his father. He was as if a god to them, so much so that they willingly groveled at his feet.

Without him, their pack would have been dominated by other packs that lived hidden amongst the humans.

But of course, this still didn't sit well with his father, Mr. Sergey Ivanovich Kuznetsov.

How could a child he brought into the world be above him? Supreme Alpha, yes, but Caesar would never have existed in the first place without him. Therefore, he always had to be beneath him—so he wanted.

However, Caesar was a man of his own—one who wasn't willing to be pulled around. This was one of the reasons why he was not at all on good terms with his father, the man who raised him as though he was nothing more than a vessel that needed to be controlled.

Mr. Sergey was a man who envied his own son, and Yuri knew that if it was ever found out that Caesar's mate was a human, he would see to it that the pack did not accept such.

Drawing a deep breath, Yuri pinched between his brows. "So, she, er, she's like, really your mate?"

"Apparently so." Caesar nodded, not failing to notice Diana's reaction to his words. He sighed, slightly pissed off. "Diana, do you understand now why you should keep your hands off her?"

Diana trembled but didn't give him a response. Her hands were balled into tight fists, her gritted teeth grinding and her jaw clenching. She was holding herself back from going after Adeline and getting rid of her as soon as possible.

Caesar belonged to her, and Adeline was nothing more than a threat that needed to be disposed of.

"If you touch her, Diana..." Caesar didn't elaborate further, as his warning was as clear as day. "Keep an eye on her, Yuri." He stood up from the chair and exited the room to make his way downstairs.

Diana rushed to the table and pushed everything off to the floor—the wine, glasses, and plates shattering into pieces. Her chest heaved, and she bellowed, screaming from the depths of her soul.

"You belong to me, Caesar!!"

Yuri snatched her by the wrist, his cold eyes glaring at her. "Shut the hell up! Caesar does not belong to you, nor is he yours!"

"Now, listen here." He gripped her chin, her cheeks puffing out painfully. "Keep your hands off Adeline. Unless Caesar permits you to hurt her, do not even go near her. Failing to do so, I'll get rid of you myself, Diana."

"You are aware that he hasn't harmed you despite your irritating presence because of his father. Stop misbehaving around him and spare him your shenanigans." His hands dropped to his sides as he let go of her.

He walked to the door to leave but came to a halt. "Make sure you pay for all that mess you made." A frown settled on his face, and he left the room, dropping the key card for her.

Diana peered into nothing with a blank expression. Her body was shuddering, and her face was burning deep red in anger.

"You're wrong. Caesar is mine, and he belongs to me," she muttered to herself, a spiteful gleam flashing in her pupils.

"I'll kill her…if I have to."
