Chapter 11: Vs T-rex and memories

[Communication room]

Entering the room, Regina observed the surroundings with pistol in hand, in case she encountered unwanted surprises. She would fill with bullets anything that moved at this time. The atmosphere was too quiet, which made her even more alert; moving further in, the silence was interrupted by the faint distant sound of computers.

Despite all the crisis on the lower floors, in this room it seemed as if nothing had happened, everything was in order without any sign that a human or dinosaur had been in it.

Knowing there was no danger around her, she took a seat at one of the computers, proceeding to activate the communicator, hearing only interference. Frustrated, frowning, she kept trying, still without success.

As she stood up to find out why there was only interference, she came across some notes lying on top of the computer; taking them, she read that the antenna will be temporarily stored. Sighing in frustration, he looked around, finding a door labeled "Antenna Aisle"; approaching it, he saw that on the side of it was a box "Antenna Activation Emergency Key".

She opened the box and took the key; cautiously, she opened the door, finding on the other side an open air corridor. The atmosphere was quite tense, the soft whisper of the wind gave an extra touch to the tension; despite the atmosphere that was felt, Regina did not hesitate and stood her ground.

Hurrying, the sound of her steps could be heard in the tense and silent environment; taking a few seconds, she reached the door that would lead to the antenna, entering it she found a small room with only a computer and a window facing the antenna.

Looking at the computer, he located the slot that would allow him to activate the antenna; inserting the card into the slot, a message was displayed on the monitor screen: "Activation key in place. Antenna activation preparations complete".

Activating the antenna, a loud sound was heard, which came from some doors that opened; later, from these, the antenna came out. Watching how the antenna was activated, he hurried to leave and returned to the communications room.

As he left and found himself in the hallway, he heard a soft click on the door; however, what caught his attention the most were the loud footsteps that made the floor and walls vibrate; looking into the dark night, he could see how from the side of the antenna room a huge maw appeared.

As she took a few steps back, her communicator beeped, and a confused Rick spoke up, "Regina What happened, the emergency lock on the second floor just activated!"

"I'm a little busy right now! Do something!" her tone sounded nervous and it was normal, as before her it was fully revealed who those jaws belonged to. it was a huge T-rex! Which quickly took in Regina's figure.

The T-rex's eyes quickly dilated, implying that it recognized the figure of the woman in front of it.

"No problem, I'll open the lock!" Without giving her time to reply, the T-rex quickly launched a ferocious bite at her position. Demonstrating her agility and experience, Regina managed to dodge its bite, darting to the side.

The impact of the T-rex's jaws broke a part of the corridor; observing that its prey managed to dodge it, the T-rex opened its jaws full of sharp teeth, snarling at her in annoyance.

Reincorporating quickly, Regina took a deep breath and fluidly drew the weapon Axel had given her; she adjusted her sights on the most vulnerable point: the T-Rex's eyes. She knew that those points were her best chance of survival. With a quick, precise movement, he pulled the trigger, and the gun rumbled from the shot.

Bang!

The T-Rex roared in pain as the bullet impacted its right eye. His vision was obscured, as his eye had been blown out.

Watching as the ferocious creature writhed, Regina quickly moved down the hallway, trying to reach the communication room, hoping that Rick had deactivated the locks.

The T-Rex, wounded and furious, was quick to rejoin and follow Regina. His one eye focused on his prey, and with a terrifying impulse, he lunged towards her. Regina, with her elite reflexes, moved with agility, dodging the terrifying onslaught again.

Bang! Bang!

While dodging for the second time, Regina continued firing, wounding part of the jaw, made the T-rex recoil and roar in pain. Blood splattered in all directions, staining the floor and part of his suit with blood, giving him a terrifying look.

Running back towards the comm room, he made it to the door; fortunately, at that precise moment a soft "click" was heard and Rick's voice came over his communicator, "It's open! All clear!"

Rushing into the communications room, Regina was saved from the onslaught delivered by the T-Rex, which caused the hallway to shatter. Not finding its prey, the T-Rex roared in frustration, as its prey had escaped.

[Communications room]

Upon entering, Regina quickly took distance from the door; the room shook from the loud roar of the T-rex. She breathed a sigh of relief after she heard the T-rex's footsteps move away.

"Sorry, little buddy, but no Regina for you on your diet today." Chuckling, she took a seat at the monitor. Activating the communicator, it gave a signal, but even with interference, he managed to establish communication with the helicopter pilot.

"Regina... Do you read me?"

Breathing a sigh of relief, Regina said to herself, "Finally!...a signal."

"The signal is weak... there's too much interference... what's the status?" The pilot, between cut off by the interference, spoke up.

"I'll give you a rundown: mission accomplished. Forget the initial plans and pick us up at the helipad immediately."

"The helipad?"

Hearing his reply, Regina sighed in exasperation and quickly replied in a hurried voice, "This whole island is a bloodbath. There are only two survivors outside the team." Watching the signal begin to cut out quickly, she added, "I'll give you the details later. Go back and pick us up now!"

Hearing his tone of voice, the pilot quickly replied, "Roger that, I'm on my way."

Rising from the computer, Regina quickly made her way to the elevator to return to the control room. As she entered the elevator, her communicator beeped again.

"Regina. what's your status?" sounded Axel's concerned voice.

"Axel? How did you...? You know what, forget it, the helicopter is coming." Hearing that familiar voice, Regina was puzzled by what he called her. Only Rick and Gail were in tune with her communicator. Thinking maybe Rick lent her his, she didn't give it another thought.

"Great! We're already at the helipad. Your little buddy was in a hurry to get out of here and didn't wait for you to get here." Hearing a "Hey" in the background, Regina laughed a little. Rick was that kind of guy who wouldn't hesitate to run and abandon you if it allowed him to survive. "Anyway, the helipad is by the front door. Going out, you'll find the path that will take you there."

"Okay, I'm on my way." Ending the call, Regina quickly set off to get to the helipad.

[Axel POV]

Watching Regina get on the elevator, I couldn't help but worry about her. I gave her the Casull so she would have a better chance of surviving the T-rex. I know that with me being here, it will trigger a butterfly effect. Maybe some things will go as in the game, but she should be prepared for possible changes.

I am not an idiot like Mc who believes that history will go to the letter when his mere presence will already trigger a big change in the already known history. Like now, normally Regina had to go through more challenges and be attacked by several raptors, but with my presence she was spared that whole process.

While I was lost in my thoughts, Rick stood up and picked up a tablet. "Alright, time for us to get moving. If Regina manages to establish communication with our helicopter, she'll ask to pick us up at the helipad."

Snapping out of my thoughts, I turned to look at him with an incredulous look. "You don't plan to wait for her?" I know he's a cowardly guy who would rather boss others around than put himself at risk, and I know most would do that, but seriously, is this guy S.O.R.T. Special Forces?

Laughing at my incredulous look Rick just said "Regina can take care of herself, you better catch up with us at the helipad" Starting to walk towards the door escorting Kirk, just before opening it he stopped " By the way do you know where the helipad is?"

Hearing what he said, Kirk turned to look at him and with a disgusted face said "Are you really one of the government dogs? Didn't you do a reconnaissance of the facility?"

Watching him laugh nervously as he ran his hand over the back of his neck I couldn't understand how this guy survived. Shaking my head I indicated "It's outside the main gate, going out we'll find our way."

Still with a nervous little laugh he said "Then let's get going".

Heading towards the main entrance we passed by the management office, as we entered I noticed a dead body next to the cubicle, as I took a good look I could only sigh and with a sad look I recognized him, it was Leo the security guard, even though I had only been here a short time I got along very well with this guy, he had the same fascination for weapons as I did.

I noticed how Kirk and Rick ignored the corpse and proceeded to move towards the main entrance, I hurried to follow them.

Drawing Jackal I prepared myself because if I remembered correctly in the game there was a raptor wandering through the lobby of the main entrance.

Indeed, upon opening the door, Rick almost screamed when he met the raptor in the lobby, watching as he froze in terror I pushed him and with a shot.

Bang!

The raptor's head flew into a thousand pieces, Rick and Kirk turned to see me, looking at the look on their faces I could only shrug my shoulders "He's modified, I didn't know he had that kind of firepower."

Nodding dumbly, we proceeded to move towards the helipad, as we exited the main entrance, we heard a flapping sound, looking up we were surprised as it was a pterodactyl approaching us with its claws out in front of it.

Aiming at it I waited until it was a few meters away from us, when I saw that it was at the right distance I fired.

Bang!

The bastard falls to the ground with a huge hole in his chest, giving a last screech of pain, the pterodactyl dies. Looking at my performance and calmness while shooting Kirk frowns a little, as if he was guessing something.

"Wow buddy how about you give up that scientist thing and join our team? I can give you a letter of recommendation" Rick said in an impressed voice.

"Only if it pays good" Chuckling I replied to Rick seeing that Kirk is staring at me I just shrug my shoulders. Wasting no more time we rush to get to the helipad.

On the way we met two raptors, this time Rick with his machine gun managed to kill them both while I covered his back.

When we arrived at the heliport, Rick looked at his tablet, worried to see that the locks on the second floor were blocked, he quickly called Regina, when I heard Regina's voice sounding nervous I was worried, as she must be about to face the T-rex.

Quickly, Rick got on the Tablet to unlock the locks. After a few seconds, he let Regina know over his communicator that he had figured it out.

Breathing relieved to myself, after a few seconds passed I remembered that Regina won't know where the helipad is located, so I approached Rick. "Hey, can I borrow your communicator?" Looking at me strangely, Rick asked, "What do you want it for?"

Rolling my eyes, I said, "To tell Regina where the helipad is." Understanding, Rick pulled out his communicator and handed it to me with a knowing look and a smirk. Ignoring him, I proceeded to call Regina, waiting a few seconds, the call connected.

"Regina, what's your situation?" I asked, somewhat concerned. If something happened to her, everything would go a bit to hell, as Regina was key to many events that would help me get out of this place easier. I alone could get out, I trust my ability, but if it can be made easier, I won't complain. Or that's what I want to tell myself, as there is a feeling that makes me worry about this woman.

"Now I understand how Leon felt about Ada Wong," I muttered. His response snapped me out of my reverie.

"Axel? How did he...? You know what, forget it, the helicopter is coming." Glad to hear that nothing happened to him, I quickly replied.

"Great! We're already at the helipad; your little buddy was in a hurry to get out of here and didn't wait for you to arrive." Giving me an annoyed look, Rick just said a "Hey" in reply.

Hearing his soft chuckle, I quickly added, "Anyway, the helipad is by the front door; going out, you'll find your way there."

"Okay, I'm on my way." Hearing his response, I ended the communication, handing the communicator back to Rick as he made a mocking comment, "Oho buddy, apparently someone wants to steal Regina from our team, but forget it, she's a tough lady. She's usually detached to people, I don't think you stand a chance."

"What the hell are you talking about?" I said with a notch of annoyance. "Besides, I don't think it's going to work." I muttered with a hint of sadness that went undisguised.

While we were waiting for Regina, I asked Kirk a question that has me intrigued, "Dr., I noticed that some raptors were exhibiting clumsy behavior and didn't have the same agility as described in the books. Could it be as a result of going through the space-time distortion of the third energy?" Hearing my question, Kirk took only a few seconds to come up with the answer.

"Yes, most likely they are still not used to the new environment that was presented to them all at once, plus this distortion and energy can cause some to mutate and gain more resistance! Fascinating, isn't it?" With a fanatical look, Kirk opened his arms and answered me.

Looking at Kirk's demeanor, Rick leaned closer to me and whispered, "This guy is crazy, don't you think?" I nodded toward him. "Yes, Kirk is crazy." Just then there was the sound of a door opening. Turning our heads toward the door, we watched as Regina came running in.

Approaching us, Regina surveyed us and seeing one member missing, looked at Rick and asked, "Where's Gail?"

"No idea; I haven't talked to him; what could he be doing?" questioned Rick curiously. Watching as the helicopter shined its light on us and approached, Rick exclaimed with relief, "Finally! You know, I had a bad feeling. After all, it could be worse!"

Hearing what he said, I turned to him and with anger in my voice replied, "You'll be an idiot; you just raised an unlucky flag." Laughing at my comment, Regina turned to look at me, only to see how many birds flew in fright.

"That's weird, looks like something scared those birds," finishing her comment, loud footsteps were heard. In a matter of seconds, a huge T-rex broke through the helipad wall and focused its gaze on the helicopter.

Taking a few steps back, we all became nervous at the sight of the towering T-rex.

ROAR!

The T-rex let out a loud roar and ferociously charged the helicopter.

"What, what is that?" The helicopter pilot exclaimed in fear before being rammed and, as a result, the helicopter destabilized. With its jaws, the T-rex bit the tail of the helicopter and ferociously flung it towards the ground, causing it to explode.

As we dodged the wreckage of the helicopter coming towards us, we all broke apart. At that moment, Dr. Kirk took the opportunity to flee the place. Regina and Rick, being on the opposite side of the T-rex, the T-rex does not see them, so he focused his attention on me, who am in front of him, and as if challenging me, the T-rex roared at me.

"ROAAR!"

"So you want to play, huh. Well, let's play," I said in an excited voice, mixed with a bit of nervousness. Taking aim at it, I began firing as I ran to the right side to dodge the onslaught of the towering beast.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The shots managed to make some wounds that caused the T-rex to become enraged and try to roar at me. However, I took advantage of it opening its mouth to fire at its jaw, this time doing considerable damage to the underside, which caused the T-rex to squeal in pain and recoil as it shook its head.

As I prepared to continue firing, Regina's scream caught my attention a bit. Looking at her out of the corner of my eye, I saw how Rick was forcibly taking her to the elevator opposite me.

"Come on, Rick, we need to help him. We can't leave him alone. Don't be a fucking coward," Regina exclaimed as she struggled with Rick.

"This is our chance to get out of here without the T-rex noticing us, Regina. understand! Besides, the important objective of the mission is Kirk, not this survivor," Rick shot back at her in a voice that denoted panic.

Managing to get her to the elevator, I can only watch as Regina gives me a look of pity and sadness as the elevator begins to close.

Taking a deep breath, something deep inside me changes at that moment. I go into total concentration; I feel so light and calm. Memories start coming into my head in a matter of seconds. I now fully understand my identity.

[Several years ago]

In the depths of a secret facility, Axel Rojas began his training to become one of the most skilled and deadly spies. His past was shrouded in mystery; there was only a vague record that he belonged to an orphanage located in Latin America.

Axel, a fragile-looking but sharp-minded young man, had been selected for a special recruitment program run by an elite government agency.

From the beginning, he stood out for his intelligence, combat skills and ability to adapt quickly to difficult situations. The agency saw immense potential in him, and Axel was ready to seize that opportunity.

His training was intense and brutal. He learned hand-to-hand combat techniques, precision shooting, weapons handling, and was subjected to rigorous physical and mental endurance exercises.

He was instructed in the art of infiltration, espionage and manipulation. But what really stood out in Axel was his ability to remain calm in extreme situations.

He learned to make quick, strategic decisions, to adapt to hostile environments and to keep his cool in the midst of chaos. The agency trained him to be a shadow in the shadows, a lethal spy who operated under the radar and left no trace.

His mentor, an experienced agent codenamed SameJake, played a key role in his training. He instructed him in the importance of loyalty, discretion and independence. He taught him to trust his intuition and to always keep a card up his sleeve. His motto was:

"Lie to such an extent that your subconscious believes that lie and makes you live it."

[Axel Present]

"I get it, so everything I thought was my past was a lie made up by my subconscious. Seeing the situation I'm in and the look of pity and sadness Regina gave me made my subconscious rid me of the lie I created for myself," I said to myself.

The memory and my monologue took only a few seconds. Coming to my senses, I could watch as the T-rex recovered from the damage. In his eyes, I could see the anger as he faced such a small prey that was causing him a lot of trouble.

The T-Rex angrily lunged toward me with astonishing speed. With my recovered muscle memories and elite reflexes, I fired the hook gun at the exact moment the colossal beast lunged toward me. The projectile went off with a whoosh and ripped into the T-Rex's right eye, eliciting a deafening roar of pain.

The T-Rex recoiled momentarily, shaking its head furiously. I knew this was my chance. Without wasting a second, I fired the hook once more, this time toward a support beam that was located in the hangars that were on the helipad. The cable tightened and lifted me into the air, out of the T-Rex's reach.

From my elevated position, I could observe the weakened T-Rex. The monster's wounded eye was filled with anger and confusion. I knew I had to take advantage of this while it lasted.

With precision and control, I fired my hook gun into the T-Rex's left eye. The projectile pierced the air and embedded itself in its vulnerable spot.

"ROAAA!"

The T-Rex's roar intensified as its second eye was damaged. I kept firing and adjusting my position on the hangar roof, keeping the T-Rex at bay.

The creature was wounded, blind and desperate.

"ROAAR!"

its roars filled the helipad with a terrifying sound. I knew I had to be relentless.

Finally, after a few accurate shots to its eyes, the bullet penetrated all the way through, doing damage to its brain. The T-rex staggered and fell to the ground with a thundering sound.

He had defeated a bloody T-rex. Its ferocity, with which it attacked me, had been extinguished.

I landed gracefully on the hard ground, my hook gun in hand and my jackal in the other. Surveying the downed T-Rex, I approached it and, with a shot to its jaw, managed to knock a few teeth out, picking up two of the teeth.

"I'll take this as a prize. It's not every day you get to kill a T-rex." With that last comment, I proceeded to calmly walk to the elevator where Regina and Rick left.

As I walked to the elevator, I got to thinking, "The guns were inspiration from my subconscious that was beginning to awaken my memories of my past life. And the worst part was, while my subconscious had me in my lie, my memories came back. That's why I panicked at first."

However, I couldn't figure out where the hook gun had come from. He hadn't created it. It must have been the same guy who created the lycra I wear. They both use the same material. Shrugging my shoulders, I reached the elevator.

Noticing that the elevator wasn't working, I frowned slightly. Forcing open the elevator doors, I could see that the elevator was stuck at the bottom. Taking the hook gun, I used it to descend, managing to reach the subway passage.

Entering the subway passage, I knew that my cunning and skills would keep me alive in this lethal environment full of dinosaurs.
