[Bonus chapter] Side Story -- Back on earth (1)

A few minutes before Mark's tragic death at the hands of Truck-kun.

Third POV

People were walking with umbrellas along the pathways, cars minding their own business as they sped towards their destinations. However, in front of a convenience store beside a crossway, three individuals appeared to be engaged in a heated argument.

It seemed like two people were taunting a young man, drawing the attention of bystanders who stopped on their paths to observe the unfolding drama with both fascination and amusement.

Curiosity got the better of a lady, who turned to a man nearby and inquired, "What are they arguing over?"

The man replied, "Ah, it seems like the young man was dumped by his ex-girlfriend, and the girl seems to have hooked up with another guy. They are now laughing at him."

"Ah, poor man. I don't think he deserved that," chimed in another person who overheard their conversation, receiving nods of agreement from those around.

"But isn't it just normal? Of course, the girl will choose a better guy than her ex. There's no girl who would want to date a poor and weak guy. Things like personality never matter. It's the truth," said a girl, her face covered with thick makeup, after listening to the previous comment.

"Ha! What do you know, woman! Not everybody is like that! And as if you're in any position to comment, just look at you, clown face, fully caked in makeup. I can say for sure that you are a pro at catfishing! Keep talking, and maybe someday you'll say something intelligent. Hmph!"

"Y-YOU!!" the lady who got insulted while expressing her opinion seethed with anger.

But as she tried to retort, nobody paid her any attention, as their focus shifted back to the trio whose argument had escalated.

"L-Look! The men are fighting!"

"Quickly, record them! It may go viral!"

"I play dibs on the dumped guy; I think he will win!"

"I second that!"

"Somebody, please, stop them!"

"Hah! I'm sure the new boyfriend will win!"

"Call the cops!"

Numerous shouts emerged as the two men engaged in a heated brawl, while the woman tried to intervene. People laughed, some started recording the scene, others placed bets, and a few even dialed the police.

But then, the mood changed from entertainment to horror.

As onlookers shouted for the fight to stop, the dumped young man suddenly picked up a brick with the intention of smashing the other guy's head.

The woman in the midst of the altercation screamed at him to stop.

"Mark, stop! You're out of control!" "Stop! You're going to kill him!"

But then, to everyone's true horror, the worst occurred.

The girl pushed the man named Mark onto the road, trying to prevent him from attacking the other man with the brick. Unfortunately, at that exact moment, a truck came from the other side--

**SCREEEECH**

*CRASH* *BANG*

"AAAAHHHHHH!"

"SOMEBODY GOT HIT!!!!"

"CALL AN AMBULANCE!!!"

"Hello, 999? There's been an accident on 'The High Road' near JK School! Yes, please come fast!"

"Damn it!! Record it quickly! We're going to become famous!!"

"Ah!!! He's dead!!"

"Someone, catch that woman!! She's going to jail for this!!"

"That's murder!!!"

Shouts and screams reverberated in the area. The sirens of ambulances and police cars could be heard approaching in the distance. That day, a person lost their life.

...

A month later, in Mashe Ville High Court.

Judge: (addressing the court) The court has meticulously reviewed all the evidence and testimony presented in this case. Today, we are gathered here to make a fair and just decision regarding the tragic accident and death of Mr. Mark Frank. Ms. Sarah Will and Mr. Zack Stom are the accused parties directly involved in this unfortunate incident.

Prosecutor: (standing) Your Honor, the evidence clearly shows that Mr. Zack Stom engaged in a physical altercation with the deceased, Mr. Mark Frank. There were witnesses who saw Mr. Stom and Mr. Frank exchanging blows, leading to an escalation of violence.

Defense Lawyer for Ms. Sarah Will: (standing) Your Honor, it is crucial to consider the context in which my client, Ms. Sarah Will, acted. She merely acted in defense of Mr. Zack Stom, as Mr. Frank was about to strike Mr. Stom with a brick, posing an imminent threat to his life. Ms. Will's actions were motivated by the desire to prevent further harm, not to cause it.

Judge: (nodding) That is a valid point. The court acknowledges that the situation was tense and emotions were running high. It is crucial to differentiate between self-defense and aggression in this case. We must determine whether Ms. Will's actions were reasonable and necessary to protect another person from harm.

Prosecutor: (objecting) Your Honor, we maintain that Ms. Will's actions were excessive and that she should have called for help rather than taking matters into her own hands.

Judge: (sustaining the objection) Objection noted. Please continue, Counselor.

Defense Lawyer for Ms. Sarah Will: (standing) Your Honor, the witnesses who testified corroborated that Ms. Will acted instinctively, without time for deliberation. Furthermore, her intent was not to cause Mr. Frank's death but to avert a potentially life-threatening situation for Mr. Stom.

Prosecutor: (standing) Nevertheless, Your Honor, it was her actions that led to the tragic outcome.

Defense Lawyer for Mr. Zack Stom: (standing) Your Honor, we also contend that Mr. Zack Stom's actions were in response to a perceived threat to his safety. The court should consider the sequence of events and the immediate danger he faced.

Judge: (reflecting on the case) The court acknowledges the unfortunate series of events that unfolded. It is clear that both Ms. Will and Mr. Stom acted under extraordinary circumstances. The law allows individuals the right to defend themselves and others from imminent harm.

Prosecutor: (reluctantly) Yes, Your Honor.
