1 The Republic of Herculean Misava

Secrets fill every society in the world. Our world is no different. The Misava people live on an island far away from civilization. Our leaders believe it is safer so we can protect the world we've created and so no one can change the values we have. Our world is different from yours in many ways. We live by our genetic material and what it tells us. Our society believes everything is written in there and it reveals information that is vital to our status.

The process of determining this is hidden in the few geneticists available in our world, and they are a rarity that holds this secret. Another important factor is the number 12. The number 12 is used and evident in every society. There are a few rules but nothing too protecting from harm since the motto of the state is, "Survival of the Fittest." The Misava people live by these laws and hold them dearly. Welcome!

The jobs of the republic give you your rank as follows:

(1 is the lowest and twelve is the highest)

1) Dancer

2) Cleaner

3) Waiter

4) Teacher

5) Police Officer

6) Athlete

7) Doctor

8) Singer

9) Writer

10) Veterinarian

12 jobs.

In the 84th 12th year, 1008 years to be exact have passed since the Misava people have existed. It is the twelfth month, December, the last day of the month which will bring us to the 84th 12th year, 1009 years since the Republic of Herculean Misava was created. The country has 12 days in a week and they are called by the numbers representing them.

Galaxy, a fourteen-year-old girl, lives with her parents and her younger sister, eleven-year-old, Legacy. Both of them are adopted since their parents couldn't have kids. "Legacy! It's the eleventh day, get up and get a move on. It's 6:30 A.M. that is the limit to your sleep young lady, "Galaxy says to her little sister. "Why can't it be the twelfth day when there is no limit to my beauty sleep?" Legacy says as she turns her head topped with straight red hair matching her sister’s wavy hair, her blue eyes meeting Galaxy's amber ones.

"Mom and dad are gone," Galaxy says, "you have until 7 to be out of bed, dressed and ready to go to the train since it takes 30 minutes to get to school." “Ugh, why?” Legacy groans as she rolls out of the bed and sees her sister’s lavender shirt and skirt. “If you weren’t a pup, you would be in trouble for being one minute late out of bed,” Galaxy says as she is already dressed and ready for school. “Well, next year I’m a squirrel so,” Legacy says as she realizes the severity of the situation. “You learnt the rules so you better apply them,” Galaxy says seriously. “Ok Granite,” Legacy says sweetly. “Don’t use my real name so freely,” Galaxy says, “mum and dad changed my name, Legacy.” Legacy sighs and gets a move on. Galaxy and Legacy make their way to the Dray Train. The two separate to go to the designated parts of the train with their classmates at 6:50 A.M. sharp.

The eighth train car is where Galaxy is stationed since she is in the eighth grade. Galaxy is waiting for the 7 O’Clock train along with many students. “Se…Stone!” Galaxy shouts as she sees the four siblings walking towards her with a little girl trailing behind them. “Hey Galaxy!” Stone says as he gets near her, his sky blue shirt and pants disheveled. “Hi Faris, Flute and Siren,”Galaxy says politely. They all mutter a response. “Stone, we are going to get going to our cars. I will take Clover to the R car and then go to the tenth car,”Flute says seriously. Stone nods. “I will come with you,” Faris says shyly to his twin sister. She nods. Siren shakes his head, “If they are late one more time. I swear the government is falling apart because of their tardiness.” Siren then walks towards the ninth train car.

“Five minutes until the Dray Train arrives. All squirrels and pups should be at their designated stations.”

“I hope the triplets and Feldspar are already at school,” Galaxy says to Stone, his eyes widening. “I don’t understand. They have been squirrels for two years now,” Stone says seriously, shaking his head.

“All aboard the Dray Train!”

The train then swishes past them violently. Galaxy and Stone step towards the scanning dock. Galaxy scans her necklace that hangs around her neck lightly, while Stone taps his watch on the luminescent screen. “Can you believe this year is already over?” Stone asks Galaxy in disbelief. “Yeah! Next year is the 84th 12th 1009 years and we are becoming older, moving up a grade and continuing life,” Galaxy says solemnly. “Aren’t you happy we are almost out of school?” Stone asks seriously. “No, I wish I was still a pup. I would feel a lot safer knowing no one will harm me,” Galaxy says honestly. Stone nods in understanding as they swish through all the towns and into the city.

“City Station is the final station. Please exit. Board a bus to get a ride to the school.”

Stone and Galaxy wordlessly exit the train. “Bye Galaxy!”Legacy shouts as she enters the bus for pups, her Lilac dress swishing about. The little boys follow behind her in their peach pants and shirts. Galaxy waves at her happily, “Bye Legacy!” Stone and Galaxy board the bus for squirrels. “Do you ever wonder if you look like your parents, Stone?” Galaxy asks curiously. “Yeah! I know for sure that they had wavy red hair since all of us have that type of hair. I’m sure Faris and Flute remember clearly,” Stone says as he relaxes his head against the seat and looks out the window. Galaxy nods and smiles sweetly at him.

“Please exit the bus and enter the school.”

“You know Legacy is graduating from a pup to a squirrel tomorrow,” Galaxy says honestly. “That’s nice! Our whole orphanage is going to the graduation of the R’s, 5th’s and 12th’s,” Stone says seriously, “I love the first of January, because it’s family day so no one is allowed to work and everyone comes to be around you.” Galaxy nods.

A hundred and twenty thousand classes in this school. One hundred and twenty floors with a thousand classes on each floor. A maximum of one million four hundred and forty-four thousand students. Normal subjects and subjects based on each little society in the country.

7:30 A.M. sharp they are in the school doors. Thirty minutes outside in the fields. The pups have a similar arrangement. Their classes reach twelve thousand classes. Only a hundred and forty-four thousand students. Subjects varying from normal subjects to the chant and finally the laws of the land. All the rules and the chant should be memorized before reaching maturity at the age of twelve and becoming a squirrel.

“Galaxy! Stone!” a voice shouts out to them and they see four figures running towards them. “We thought you were going to be late,”Feldspar says as he hugs Galaxy with all his might. “We live in the same area so why do u always leave before me Feldspar?”Galaxy asks seriously, “we both are pure Capistrano.” “We technically aren’t Capistrano until we graduate. We will have to wait and see if we become waiters like our parents,”Feldspar says honestly. Galaxy rolls her eyes and sees three faces staring at her in concern. “Hi 6, Icterine and Major,” Galaxy says as she’s in a mood now. Galaxy walks with all of them trailing behind her in the field. The bell rings at exactly 7:50 A.M. and students make their way to their classes. 7:55 A.M. the bell rings for a second time and everyone starts reciting the chant.

Strong is what we are

Unique is how we were made

Resilience keeps us alive

Valiance helps us through the day

Intelligence keeps us going strong

Vaulting helps us reach our goals

Abiding keeps us safe from harm

Loyalty strengthens us

Obliging to our Leaders’ wants

Faultless in every step

Teamwork keeps the country running

Hegemonic above all nations

Enraptured by the Leaders’ provisions

Fearless despite the zeroes

Imaginative so we can develop

Trustworthy relations and a

Tenacious grip on our values

Exotic to others but precious to us

Sporting in our dealings

Tolerant in our views

Survival of the Fittest

We are fit

We are alive

We are fit till the day we die

The chant resonates throughout the school as everyone says the words on point. Everyone nearby can hear the chant and its meaning echoing through the city. “Here goes the beginning of a twelve-hour school day and twenty-two subjects,” Galaxy mutters to herself as she looks at the classmates around her who will soon claim spots in society. Everyone in school fears being friends with her personality type. When you hit maturity your personality, strengths and everything else starts showing and Galaxy’s personality is intimidating.

All Galaxy’s friends are in separate classes. Eight subjects later, four hours later, a thirty-minute break ensues and all the squirrels make their way to the fields that are larger than a football field. The field consists of about four football fields. Galaxy spots Stone sitting in the middle of the field with the triplets and the twins. Feldspar is just making his way towards the group when he spots Galaxy. “Hi Navy, Nicolette, Feldspar, Icterine, 6, Stone and Major,”Galaxy says with a frown on her face due to the current circumstances. “You really hate school, don’t you?” 6 comments. Galaxy glares at him but nods rapidly. All of them chuckle as they eat the school-provided meals.

“How’s your father, Navy and Nicolette?”Icterine asks politely. “My father is doing okay,”Navy says seriously. “We haven’t seen our mother this month since it’s graduation month so we’ve been waiting for tomorrow this whole month,”Nicolette says honestly as she receives a look from Navy. “Your parents are which rank?” Stone asks politely. “My mother is Anansi, dancers, 1C. My father is Argaron, cleaner, 2C,”Nicolette says honestly. Stone nods, “My mother was Kalpavriksha, Astronaut, 11C. My father was Cerberus, Police officer, 5C. My mother always made sure my father got to see us once a month as required by the law and she would always come along.” “So sweet,”Icterine says, “well you all know my mum is an Argaron as well.” “Mine and Galaxy’s parents are both in the Capistrano, waiter, 3C,”Feldspar says honestly. No one dares to mention the triplets father.

A bell rings and the group disperses to go to their classes again. Four hours later, the group is back in their spot for another thirty-minute break. “Guys, what about the other ranks?”Stone says seriously, “I can barely recall their names and I know we have a test on it today.” “Always the late one,”Icterine chuckles. “Here,”Galaxy says and hands him a piece of paper.

He reads:

“1) Anansi – Dancers

2) Argaron – Cleaners

3) Capistrano – Waiters

4) Montrose – Teachers

5) Cerberus – Police officers

6) Athapaskan – Athletes

7) Hyrule – Doctors

8) Pyrenees – Singers

9) Selkie – Writers

10) Xochiquetzal – Veterinarian

11) Kalpavrishka – Astronaut

12) Letsatsi – Leader”

Half-an-hour passes with them studying these details for their test. Three hours later, they are all boarding the bus to head home to their families at 7 P.M., by 7:30 P.M. they will be home. All the friends quietly enter the train and sit in silence for a while. “We can at least hang out tomorrow,” Feldspar says seriously as he looks at Galaxy. Galaxy stares at him emptily, “Tomorrow is a family day since people are graduating. They made the system in such a way that you won’t have free-time to mess around and do bad things.” Feldspar sighs and says, “I’ll walk you home.” Galaxy nods.

The triplets and their best friends, the twins, are sleeping. Stone is laughing at them and their drooling. All of them changed since they were eleven because of their personalities coming into effect except Stone. Stone stayed the same and remained so.

As soon as the train stops, the triplets and the twins say goodbye. They start heading towards their Argaron area while Stone and his siblings head towards the orphanage with little Clover trailing behind them. Feldspar stands and waits as the train station starts clearing up. Galaxy spots Legacy and starts walking home with her running ahead. “She’s going to change tomorrow,”Galaxy says, “right now she’s like a pup like Stone. No limitations to what she can be.” Feldspar smiles at her and nods. “Are you worried?”Feldspar asks seriously. “Yes, sometimes people don’t pass the maturity test. I almost didn’t,”Galaxy says seriously as worry fills her gaze making her look even more menacing, “this is me so I will see you later Falcon.” “See you later, Granite,”Feldspar says as he recalls his real name, Falcon.

7:30 P.M. is when most people should be at home unless you are going out for dinner at this time. “Go do your homework, Legacy, since we will be having dinner at 8:30 P.M.,”Galaxy shouts out to her from the kitchen. “UGH!”Legacy shouts from her room in anguish over doing homework. At 9 P.M., Galaxy and Legacy make their way to bed when they hear their parents coming through the doors. “Mum, Dad,”Legacy whispers to her parents. “Hello,”our mother and father say quietly. “How’s your pets?”Legacy asks excitedly. “Our swallows are just fine,”father says kindly, “they are as tired as us.” “Goodnight!”Mother and father whisper as Galaxy keeps her mouth shut. Her parents have the right to talk to their children and stay up past the bedtime because of their jobs but she doesn’t and soon neither will Legacy be allowed to do so since they are both squirrels and have to follow the rules to graduate.

Everyone in the entire country goes to sleep except doctors, police officers, cleaners and veterinarians.
