11 The Path To Awesomeness

After confirming that Sun Chengye was not in life-threatening danger, for the time being, Zhou Wen gave a few simple orders to the stir-fried noodle stall's boss. This included instructing him not to move his father and to wait for the arrival of the ambulance. 

Then, he got up and left the place straightaway before the boss could thank him. 

"Hold on…" the stir-fried noodle stall's boss called out to him. He watched as Zhou Wen dived straight into the crowd without turning back so he could only shout aloud, "Thank you!!!"

Ten minutes later, the sound of an ambulance siren was heard coming from a distance. 

When they were in the ambulance, the EMT in the ambulance gave a simple diagnosis by saying, "I believe that his condition was caused by low blood pressure resulting in oxygen deficiency to his brain and loss of consciousness. This is an extremely dangerous case because if the brain is depleted of oxygen, even if the patient can be resuscitated, there is a high probability that the patient will end up in a coma."

Sun Chengye and his son felt a lingering fear in their hearts upon hearing the EMT's statement. Fortunately, they encountered a noble person today, or else the consequences would be too ghastly to even think about.

In the hostel building for females of the School of Health Sciences, the injured Xu Shuangyu was cursing Zhou Wen in her room at the moment. She hoped that he would get a packet of instant ramen without a flavoring packet, a canned food without a pull tab, a boba milk tea without a straw, and end up single and alone over his entire life. 

'Isn't it a little too mean to curse him to be single and alone over his entire life? Forget about it; I shall curse him to be unable to find a partner before the age of 25.'

Xu Shuangyu propped her chin up with her elbow resting on the study table. She scrolled through her social network on her phone and pondered a few things. 

Soon afterward, she heaved a sigh of dejection. She was supposed to be enjoying an outing with her friends this weekend. Yet, she could only stay in her room obediently now as she could not travel anywhere. 

"It's all that person's fault; had it not been for him…"

Before Xu Shuangyu could finish her sentence, she scrolled to a video that was recently posted by her friend on her social network. 

She felt that the silhouette that vanished as soon as it appeared on the video looked rather familiar. 

She immediately sat upright and tapped on the video to watch it. She could not refrain herself from gasping aloud as she said, "It's him!!!"

Even though she could only see the side of the man's face, she could recognize, in one glance, that it was the person that bumped into her yesterday. 

He was kneeling on the ground, performing CPR for an old man, while surrounded by a pitch-black sea of heads and clamorous noises. 

There was no ending to the short video clip, but the caption of the video stated, 'Jiangzhou University's medical student performed an act of gallantry to save an old man'. 

Xu Shuangyu turned on her class group chat, and just as expected, someone had already posted the same video. 

The class group, that was usually dead quiet, was boiling over with excitement akin to a few drops of water poured into a pot of hot oil. Everyone began to voice their opinions in succession. 

"The resuscitation technique looks so… amateur."

"I think that it looks rather amateur too. It doesn't look like it is performed by a student from the School of Health Sciences, right?"

"I disagree. Even though the resuscitation technique looks a little amateur, the overall management of the case looks very professional. I believe he is someone who possesses rich pharmacology knowledge…"

Xu Shuangyu screened through her coursemates' comments and then watched the video clip again. In the end, she wrinkled her cute button nose and said, "I shall call it even since you saved another man's life…"

Even though the video was recorded at night, which affected the quality of the video, those that were close to Zhou Wen could still recognize him. 

When he came back upstairs after he showered, the people acquainted with him from the same floor greeted him in succession. 

"Hey, Old Zhou. It was you who saved the man in the night market earlier, right? You're awesome! Since when did you learn that technique?"

"Hahahaha! The students from the School of Health Sciences are looking everywhere for you. In reality, it turns out that you're from the School of Life Sciences."

"Old Zhou, please sign an autograph for me."

Zhou Wen almost leaped up from the bed in excitement. Had the system finally heard his prayer after all this time?

"Wtf???" Zhou Wen could not suppress his frustration. 

Why bother making the 100 RMB appear so m*th*rf*ck*ng thick? It seemed his excitement was all in vain. 

'Forget it! Forget it. It's still 100 RMB. I should be content!" Zhou Wen consoled himself in his heart. Then, he brought up the inventory list with the intention of taking out the cash. 

A dialogue had actually popped out before his eyes to his surprise. It gave him the option of choosing the withdrawal method, including cash, Alipay, Wechat Pay, and bank transfer.

He chose Alipay. 

He waited for three seconds before he received a transfer notification from Alipay. He logged in and took a glance to find that his remaining balance was 176.31 RMB. 

He managed to earn some money at last. Zhou Wen was finally at ease. 

Even though it was only 100 bucks, the act of receiving money from the loot box meant that he would still stand a chance to gain money in the future.

In a time of well-developed information technology, all sorts of new information came up on the internet every day to draw in people's attention. There were also games as well as animation that filled their lives. Had it not been because Zhou Wen was near to them, they would not even be bothered to pay attention to him yesterday. 

Zhou Wen could not help but feel a little dejected. However, he soon accepted reality. He was not as good as he thought. 

The next day, he repeated the same schedule as the day before. 

It was half-past seven at night when he finally heard the prompt sound of an accomplished mission in his ears. 

He brought up the system at once.

Next, a loot box opened before his eyes. 

Just as Zhou Wen was anticipating a gift in excitement, the treasure chest was actually empty when it was opened.

Zhou Wen felt speechless as he watched the gradually disappearing gray treasure chest. However, there was nothing he could do because the system did not give him a chance to file a complaint at all. 

He sat there in despair for a while before he made peace with his predicament. 

Anyone who played games would know that the rate of getting useless loot boxes was relatively high. Later on, the loot boxes would be giving him more and more useless trash. 

Besides, the mission was not challenging at all. Therefore, it made sense for him to get an empty loot box.

After making peace with the fact, he checked on his Course XP and discovered that it had already achieved [1100] now. He could upgrade his course now. 

He examined the page from top to bottom. There were pharmacology, pathology, biochemistry, immunology, systematic anatomy, and linguistics courses. 

Zhou Wen considered which course he should upgrade first. 

The incident from the night before taught him that being familiar with the effect and mechanism of medicine with the correct application of resuscitation techniques could really save a man's life. It was apparent that pharmacology played a crucial role. 

On the other hand, he would genuinely qualify as a doctor if he could master pharmacology and learn about emergency treatment. All that would be missing was a practicing license. 

However, he remembered soon afterward that it was extremely laborious for him to listen to those experiment courses in the library, especially when the narration was all in English. 

Due to China's biology course materials being developed later, many of the universities had only introduced the course after the year 2000. A large portion of their literary materials was acquired from overseas such as immunology. In fact, even the course materials were converted to English just a few years ago. 

As a result, it was hard to learn biology without good English. Moreover, a student would only need a linguistic foundation in Latin and German. 

After careful consideration, Zhou Wen decided to upgrade his linguistics first. 

He still needed to master the understanding of literary information through listening and reading.

Upon confirmation, a ray of gold-yellow radiance shimmered through the linguistics course selection. Then, it was upgraded from Lvl 0 to Lvl 1. The XP points behind it returned to 0 and turned into 0/5000. 

At the same time, Zhou Wen felt as if he was suddenly enlightened. The English biology terminologies that used to torment him to death in the past felt easy at the moment. The terms were deeply seared into his memory. 

If he were to take the CET-4 again now, he made a conservative prediction that he could score at least 600 points. 

Just to test it out, he found a few English books to read. There was utterly no difficulty at all. 

Then, he attempted to read out loud. The pronunciation of the relevant terminologies slipped off of his tongue naturally as if he was speaking in his mother tongue. 

Zhou Wen was both surprised and joyous. "Could it be that this is the power of the system?"
