Inside the bunker.

Alan climbed down the stairs, before walking through a series of doors, meant to defend against the Siliks if they ever invaded the settlement.

"You guys are back?" A lady's voice welcomed him after he went through the last door.

"Hello, Mary," Alan waved at the middle-aged woman who was waiting at the front, "No need to be anxious, we weren't attacked."

"Oh thank goodness, I heard there have been Silik sightings recently around this zone." Mary placed her hand on her chest to show her relief.

"Yeah, but they're lucky they stayed hidden, else I would've killed them." Alan flexed his muscles while walking inside.

"Yeah, with your podcast." Ezekiel knocked Alan on his head as he passed through the last door.

He had been hearing their conversation before he came in.

"Come on Ezekiel, at least let him dream." Another of the youths who went with them on their expedition said as he came out.

The others came out and burst into laughter, Alan laughed awkwardly before turning around.

The bunker was quite small, around five hundred meters in total. It's expected though given that the people here numbered around only twenty-five or so. This was one of the smallest settlements humans had in the world. But since they've been able to survive till now, it meant they were doing something right.

Alan walked around the bunker before heading into his room which was barely six meters long and around three meters wide. There was a bed, a small table, a chair, and even a bathroom in it.

He kept his bag on the table before taking out his recorder, after listening to the events that have happened since he started using it, he dropped down to his bed.

….

Later that night.

The alarms in the bunker went off in the middle of the night when most of the people were sleeping.

Bang! Bang!

"Alan! Get your ass up now!" Ezekiel's worried voice could be heard from outside Alan's room.

Alan, who was in his room, was still sleeping soundly, even with the alarm and the repeated banging.

Bang! Bang!

"Come on man! We have to go!" Ezekiel yelled while kicking the door aggressively.

Alan woke up after hearing the loud noise, before asking with a sleepy voice, "Wha… what's going on?"

His eyes suddenly widened when he heard the alarm.

"Oh no, we're being attacked." The realization dawned on him.

"Alan, open this shit now!" Ezekiel yelled from the other side of the door once again.

Alan turned to the door, picking up his bag, as well as his recorder, "I'm coming."

Just as he opened the door, Ezekiel knocked his head, "What the hell is wrong with you? How can you sleep through this?"

"I'm sorry I was exhausted," Alan tried to explain.

"Come on, let's go. The Siliks have breached through the first three doors, the old man is trying to see if he can stop them from getting here," Ezekiel dragged Alan with him as they ran towards the other side of the hall.

In their entire settlement, the man with a single arm was the only awakened one, and he was the one protecting them from the Siliks whenever they invaded.

They are too far from a major settlement, so they don't have the weapons made by the scientists to fight against the Siliks. Other than those weapons and Supremes, normal human equipment does little to no damage to these things.

To kill one of them, one will need to use something as powerful as missiles, and just one wouldn't kill them, only causing injuries. But with the help of the chaos energy that scientists have extracted after years of study, they can cause harm to them with even a small knife.

The issue lies with the sturdy armor these things possessed. So breaking through it requires extraordinary power.

….

Alan and Ezekiel soon got to the control room of the bunker, there, all the occupants of the bunker watched the monitor, staring at the single man standing against monsters standing at over four meters tall.

The old man was a wind user, so when the monsters appeared, he instantly went on the offensive.

All Alan and the others could see were bright lights, and before long, everything died down.

A creature that had the pincers like that of an ant held the man on them, with a single bite, the man was cut into two. The Silik got into view and everyone saw it clearly, it had a somewhat humanoid form, sturdy armors, two hands, and stood on two feet. It was around three meters tall with sharp claws. From what Alan had heard, there were different types of Siliks.

….

The eyes of everyone widened as they witnessed the scene of the Old man being cut in half. Their only protector was dead.

Before he was cut down, he managed to take down three of the Siliks, but it didn't change much. There were still around five Siliks remaining, and no one to protect the settlement anymore.

"Run, run, to the second exit." The driver of the truck gave out orders as he quickly ran out of the control room.

They couldn't stay in the bunker any longer. Staying here was no different than wishing death upon themselves.

Alan's hands shook repeatedly. He had always envisioned himself standing in front of a Silik, but now, just the sight of one from the monitor terrified him. He was just a regular human, unlike the old man who was one of the few people regarded as Supremes or awakened. He couldn't stand against these things, much less fight against one.

Ezekiel dragged Alan, who was lost in thoughts along as they all hurried towards the second exit. Even though they knew the chances of escaping were slim, there was still hope if they managed to get out of the bunker.

While they were running to the second exit, they could hear the explosions from the attacks of the Siliks.

Other than the strong defense of these things, they can also shoot light beams from their mouths. A powerful and destructive energy.

Of the twenty-plus people in the settlement, only about fifteen managed to come out from the exit. With some being injured from the attacks of the Siliks.

"There's only one truck, and it can carry no more than ten people altogether, quick, pick who will be running on foot," The driver of the truck said as they ran towards the truck.

Everyone panicked naturally since no one wanted to be left behind in a situation like this.

Boom!

Just as they were around two hundred meters away from the truck, an explosion came from where they were hiding it.

"Oh no!"

Despair appeared on the faces of everyone.
