9 Chapter Nine: The Boss is a student

On a sunny afternoon, a lady could be seen walking through the streets of Malibu located in a city called chestercity. She had a headset placed on her head as she grip both arms of her backpack tightly.

She appeared to have been endorsed so much in the music that she didn't realise the commotion going on in front of her. It was only after seeing someone blocking her path did she realise what was going on.

She lifted her face and could see about thirty or so people queueing up in front of a building. Her brows raised when she realised that it was a restaurant she was familiar with.

"Why are there so much people in front of the restaurant." She uttered to herself.

As she walked towards the entrance, she could see men and women, both young and adults giving her stares. It didn't take long for her to realise that they were here to eat.

So, to clarify things, she lifted both of her hands. "I'm not here to eat, I'm just a worker." She kept on saying this till she eventually got inside the restaurant. Here, she could see what could be called overcrowding as the whole restaurant was filled with lots of people.

Swiftly, she headed straight for the kitchen, however, she had caught the sight of someone she had never seen before, but at the same, recognized.

"That face looks familiar. But wait, why is he here? Did Linda employed someone without my consent." She was a little annoyed but as she inched towards the kitchen, a specific smell had wafted across her nose causing her stop dead in her tracks.

'What's this smell.' She sniffed into the air a few times. 'It smells like cheese and rice, but why does it smells so unique.'

She had eventually gotten into the kitchen and the first to notice her presence was Alex, who stared at her a few times.

"How can I help you?" Alex asked while stirring the contents he just poured into the pot. He noticed that the lady in front of him was a student who was wearing chestercity school uniform. He wasn't concerned about that but instead about what she wanted.

'Why is she looking at me that way. I don't recall this body having any girlfriend or anything, and I can't seem to recall her face anywhere.'

"Who are you?" The lady inquired back, causing Alex's brows to furrow into a frown.

"Shouldn't I be asking that?" Alex replied to her.

Meanwhile, Linda who had sensed the presence of someone in the kitchen had immediately went to approach them.

"Oh, you're finally here." Linda said, standing between the two.

"Who is he?" The lady asked.

"Hold on, let me do a quick introduction." Linda averted her gaze to look at Alex, "So, this is Stacy; the owner of this restaurant and our boss. Stacy, meet Alex, an assistant chef I just employed…"

Stacy gave her a side eye when she said this, causing Linda to clear her throat nervously.

"Sorry, we were pretty tight in here and I had to do what I did. Alex is pretty skilled and he cooks all sort of things. You can't believe that the customers started flooding in after he prepared a tasty shimarck soup. If only you had been there at that time, you would have done what I did. This dude must be carrying luck or something, for the past one hour, customers have been swarming all over this place which hadn't happened since we opened in the morning. He has been a great help to us so far; preparing all the dishes, including the ones we never knew about."

While Linda explained all of this, Stacy didn't for once took her eyes off Alex. The latter on the other hand could also notice the constant gaze from her but he decided to ignore her since it wasn't the first time he'll get stared at by ladies.

'She must be falling for my looks.' Alex thought before he snapped and realised that he was no longer in his own body. Back then he was every girl's dream man. He could make a girl speechless from just his smile. However, those were in the past, he's no longer the Alex whom everyone wants to befriend. He's just a random guy who no one knows anything about.

But that makes him think, why was this Stacy girl staring at him that way? Did she recognised him somewhere? Were they friends at school or something?

"What's your surname, Alex?"

"Gene." He answered almost immediately, still trying to avoid her looks due to how awkward it seemed to him.

"Alex Gene? Are you still in school?"

He wanted to say no, he got out of school a couple of years ago, but he quickly remembered that he wasn't who he used to be. It seems like he's yet to get adapted to this new life of his. Damn, he almost slipped.

"I attend Chestercity high school." He eventually replied.

"Really? I thought you looked familiar, I never realised it was you." Stacy said with excitement.

"Excuse me. Do I know you?" His brows furrowed slightly as he tried to remember where he had seen her before.

"You might if I tell you. I'm the new transfer girl who came in to your class today. I was even your seat partner. I came to learn of your name when the homeroom teacher called for you in class. Perhaps it was because you have a similar name to the artist I liked, I was able to remember. And especially that funny surname of yours. Hahaha."

Now that Alex looked at the face of the lady in front of him, he realised he had seen her before in class. But he didn't really think of anything about her. Why would he care about some random transfer girl when he's got a lot of matters to deal with.

"Oh, you're the new student. I'm sorry I didn't recognise you sooner. I'm not the type who registers people's faces. I see a lot of faces so I find it quite difficult to remember who or whom I met in the morning. I had no idea you're the owner of this restaurant, and a student at that."

Despite it all, he eventually said something he shouldn't have said. It was only after he ended his speech that he realised what he just said.

"You must be some type of celebrity, hehe." Stacy laughed. "Anyways, since Linda already approved your skills, I'll let you work here. I believe she already told you the shift and time you'll be working. It's going to be just the two of us, every weekdays after school. I hope you're satisfied with that?"

"Yeah, I'm still convenient with it for now. But I don't know what may happen in the future." Alex said, thinking of when he eventually gets signed by a company, he won't have to work in the restaurant. Since he was doing it mainly for money.

"Alright then, let's do our best to work together. I can see there are a lot of customers waiting to be let in, please continue what you were doing, I'll join you after I change."

With that said, Stacy left, leaving Alex and Linda behind.

"Boy, you're one hell of a lucky guy. I never thought Stacy would agree to my decision. She never does. I've been thinking of the lies I'll put together so she could accept you, but damn, you have my respect, dude." Linda placed her hand above her head, displaying a salute sign.

Alex just chuckled at this, to which she left while he continued with his cooking. But Alex just couldn't contain his amusement, a young lady like Stacy owns a restaurant of her own. He wondered how she was able to attain something like this, was it her parents? It would make sense if she was from an Elite family. Anything is possible if you have money.

He wasn't the type to tamper into the affairs of others, but the more he thought about it, the more his curiosity to know more about Stacy increases.

'My Boss is a student, that's hilarious.' Alex said to himself.

After the two were gone, Alex brought up the system as he intended to check his stats. He had previously completed a side quest which had earned him a few rewards.
