Chapter Five: An Upgrade

After exiting the gaming building, Alex decided to buy a few snacks with the remaining $10 he had with him. Soon after, he returned to his apartment.

At the moment, he was scrolling through his phone; trying to sort out the bunch of problems he had on his tab.

The first one was money, he needed money to play games, then the next was the DFG team he needed to create, the third was how he would get 100 people to listen to his songs everyday. He also has a musical contest to join. While lastly, was the requirements of food, which can only be purchased with money. So basically, he needed money.

"Firstly, I need to join a music contest. At least, I'll know one problem has been solved."

He inputted a few words into his device and the search option displayed the results to him.

( Upcoming Idols:

A yearly contest which is held in Chestercity by the three Top idols of all times; Alex Stale, Jenny wood, and Dora Barton. The contest takes place every weekend within three months. Its aim is to train and help create a talented Idol who would be loved by the society)

"Sadly, Alex Stale won't be there anymore."

He scrolled down the website and clicked on the 'Join Contest' button. "Let's start all over, shall we."

After filling in the required information, his application was approved and was asked to come to where the contest will be held on the following weekend.

Now that he received a few cheat points, Alex was thinking of upgrading one of his stats. He wondered how effective those cheat points would be. Would it turn an unpleasant voice into a sonorous one? Could it really be a cheat like it was named?

Bringing up the system tab, he started looking at his stats, wondering which one he should upgrade first.

[ Perfect Voice: 10% ] - (To become a superstar, you must improve the functionality of your voice. The voice of a musician is his treasure. 100 Cheat points to raise voice by 20%)

[Dance Skill: 40%] - (50 Cheat points to increase dance skill by 20%)

Among all others, these two still seemed to be the most important. Sooner or later, he would have to compete with them. He needs to raise their percentage to a specific level so he could have a chance of winning in the contest.

However, one seemed to be more important than the other. In fact, he thinks the more important one deserves an upgrade rather than the latter.

The dance skill had a 40% while the more important skill, which is the perfect voice; had a 10%. It didn't take long for the genius to come to a conclusion, a decision that any wise man would take. That was upgrading the perfect voice skill with the cheat points he received.

"That's expected. I have a long way to go if I want to become a Star again. I just need to find a way of completing those quests."

Alex yawned widely as a drop of tears fell from his eyes. A signal that he was feeling sleepy.

Before he went to bed though, he decided to check the XTweet app again. He wanted to see if there have been any news about him, especially the cause of his untimely death.

Disappointedly, there wasn't any. Except the video of Alex's vice; Thomas Hemsworth who reported the several test results that have been carried out in multiple hospitals. Still no luck, all the results were claiming to find no cause to Alex Stale's death.

It was strange though, Alex could remember vividly. He knew he wasn't feeling sick or anything. He even had a checkup with his private doctor yesterday, and he was said to be of a good healthy. Was the doctor hiding something from him? Or was he having an illness that couldn't be diagnosed by any kind of medical equipment? Wait, is that even possible?

However, a thought suddenly came across his mind as he watched the video Thomas Hemsworth, his vice director and very best friend. He was reminded of something which his mind hadn't thought of, despite his need for it.

"Oh, damn this brain of mine, how could I forget my safe… I hid most of my money and stuffs in that safe. If I could sneak back into my house, I should be able get it out without being seen."

A smile formed on Alex's lips as he realised this, he made a plan in his head and imagined himself unlocking his safe to find billions of dollars he could spend.

He would instantly order for a Vr capsule to be shipped to his home. To the face of the escort girl at the game building. He hugged his pillow tightly as he imagined himself reaching the top rank of the DFG again. With his massive wealth, he could snatch away skilful players from other team. And rise to the top once again.

Alex kept on thinking about this, but it didn't take long that he had drifted off into a deep sleep.

On another location in the same country of Gazzan, a huge young man in his middle thirties was seen standing by a wine cellar. He was currently on a call with someone important.

"I've taken care of everything, chairman. The fifteen doctors have been dealt with. And the original test results have been incinerated. You don't have to worry. We will proceed with the next plan."

The call ended there and the man glanced at a picture frame located at the opposite wall.

"You're such a pain in the ass Alex, who knew I'll have to kill fifteen doctors just to hide the truth from being exposed." The man said before taking a swig out of the glass of wine.

"Now where's that precious safe of yours."
