Forty three

Recap:

" I want to end this war peacefully, with little or no blood shed. I don't know how, but I'm going to do it."

Iris's POV.

" I'm scared."

" I know you are."

" I don't think I can handle all this."

" You can. I know you can. If there's anyone who can handle it it's you."

" Cole, I'm tired." I cried and he rubbed circles on the back of my palm.

" I'm tired of all the fighting and the blood. I just want to be normal."

" If I could turn people normal, I would have turned myself normal years ago. But we just have to live with it. We can do this Iris. I believe in us, I believe in you."

" I found it." Malika cried joyfully as we watched the guardians fight against the magicians. I was extremely impressed by their performance. It gave me hope.

" What is it?" I asked tiredly.

" See for yourself."

She passed the book to me and I gasped. The entire book was about the guardians and their responsibilities. I knew everything about the guardians already, but this page was contained information I never knew, and a spell.

' The Guardians of the Dragon's Heart though young are the best fighters of the Elysian. They are determined at birth. While other fighters unlock more abilities, skills and reach their maximum potential as they grow older, the guardians full powers are locked and can only be unlocked by the Elysian when the time is right.'

" Is it-"

" It's worth a shot isn't it?"

" Okay, let's do it."

" Familiarise yourself with the spell, I'll go get the elders."

I read the paragraph to my guardians and they nodded.

" Are you sure you're all ready for this?, It can go either way. It might be real or not."

" We're ready."

Cole's POV.

Iris's eyes glowed a bright yellow and the returned to normal. I felt a light tingling on my arm then a sharp pain. It felt like someone was marking me with a hot metal. The pain stopped and I felt…powerful.

" Check your wrists!" Bryan exclaimed excitedly.

I turned my wrist and saw a mark? A tattoo? I'm not exactly sure what it is but it was beautiful. It was a detailed heart that looked like it was on fire and it was surrounded by thorns. Inside the heart was the outline of a wolf.

I looked at Daisy's and hers had water inside the heart instead of a wolf like mine. Each guardian's mark tattoo was unique.

Rose's tattoo was even more unique, she's the counsellor so it's expected. Hers was also a heart on fire surrounded by thorns with a small crown on top of the heart, a lion inside the heart.

" It worked." Iris said grinning.

" Okay, so let's test it."

She sent a blast of fire towards us and as if they'd read her mind Basil, Donald and Kirk jumped forward covering us with a rock dome.

They let the dome fall and stomped their feet on the ground sending a mini earthquake in Iris's direction. Iris stumbled but quickly regained her balance. She controlled water and the water Elementists turned it into a whip and lashed her with it.

I heard her squeal and smirked.

" Okay." She said cracking her knuckles

" Ag-"

The fire Elementists didn't let her finish the spell before blasting her with electricity. For once in her life Iris was caught off guard.

" Hot! Hot!" She cried as she ran towards the ocean.

" We got this!" Ivor and Ava yelled as they raced to the ocean. They shifted into whale mid jump and entered into the water with a splash. Iris shrieked as she was pushed out of the ocean by the water Ava had shot out of her blow hole. She then hit Iris with her tail sending her in Ivor's direction. The two shifters tossed her back and forth using their tails.

" Okay now it's my turn." Bryan said as he shifted and took to the sky he snatched Iris mid air using his talons and took her on her loopy ride. He dropped her onto the back of Erina who had shifted into a Minotaur and took her on a wild ride. Iris managed to jump off but she hit her head on a rock as she did so.

A part of me felt bad, I mean she's my girlfriend. But on the other hand, this is payback,she had whooped our asses multiple times already.

Rose used her whip around her and drew her up. The metal fragments in the whip had thorn through Iris's tank and hand hooked onto her skin and a red liquid had started trickling down. She held onto the whip so Rose could not pull her but the metal fragment cut through her skin and blood trickled from her palm.

We each had our turn messing with Iris, as brutal as it may seem, I knew Iris was enjoying it also.

" Had enough yet?" Rosa asked Iris cockily.

Iris was covered in blood. She grinned showing us bloodied teeth and wheezed.

" I still got plenty more fire in me but I'll let you have this one."

Then she started tearing up.

" You okay?" Tiara asked and Iris nodded.

" I'm just so proud of you guys. Come on all in."

We brought our hands together but our mark tattoos started glowing.

" Is it supposed to do that?" Irene asked.

" I don't know." Iris shrugged.

There was a wave I didn't see it, but I felt it.

" You felt that, right?" Logan asked and we all nodded.

" Look." Jim breathed and we turned to Iris.

Black symbols lined her forearm and wrists. She lifted her head and I could see the same black symbols lining her face, from her cheeks to the bridge of her nose. Her lilac eyes glowed and so did the symbols. Her eyes returned to normal and the symbols disappeared.

" I think this should be our last training together, we need to train our army." Iris stated and we nodded.

" Whatever happens, just know that I'm proud of you."

" And we believe in you Iris. We're gonna win this, together."
