Chapter 8: Fenris

The first week of school is almost over and Fenris already has projects due. She has a paper on a story from the Grimm's Fairy Tales for English and a family tree project for Supernatural History, both assignments are due on Friday, and it's only Wednesday.

Sitting back at the desk in her room she leans her head back and groans. She hates doing school work. The only class Fenris likes is p.e., and that's because the gym is huge and she can shift into her wolf. She can also exercise some of the stress and frustration away from her classes, and she has a lot of stress when it comes to school. With rumors surrounding her, guys trying to beat her up to show they're stronger, and girls trying to get her in bed; Fenris works out a lot leading to her being quite muscular.

The doorbell rings causing Fenris' eyebrows to scrunch in confusion. [Who could that possibly be?]

She looks down at what she's wearing, a black sports bra and some baggy grey shorts. Her four pack on full display, but she's not worried about that. It's the scars on her back from her wings that she doesn't want anybody to see.

She goes to grab a shirt when she hears, "Fenny! Open the door! I have something important to tell you!"

Chuckling Fenris grabs a white shirt and yanks it over her head before walking out her room and to the front door.

Opening the door she grins at Ray, but tries to hide it. "Hey Ray. What's this oh so important thing you have to tell me in person and not through a text?"

Ray ignores the question and pushes past her, walking the ten feet or so to her couch and plopping down on it. Rolling her eyes she follows Ray to the couch and sits next to him. Ray turns to her and stares at her. Fenris raises her eyebrow in question. "What Ray?"

"I'm having a family dinner so Mary and her family can meet my family."

"Okay. What does that have to do with me?"

"I want you to be there."

Fenris' eyes widened. "What? But Ray we're not family. I mean I love you like a brother, but don't you want it to be just family."

Ray looked at her seriously. "Fenris, you are my family. Yes we're not related by blood but I think of you as my sister. So I want you to come to the family dinner and meet Mary's family. Please Fenris."

Fenris could feel her heart swell. She always thought of Ray and his family like her second family and to know he felt like she was family, nearly brought a tear to her eye. She had always wanted this connection and never got it.

Yes Fenris' parents loved her. They paid for her school, living and food expenses. But, she hadn't lived with her family since she was five. She didn't even know until she was ten and visited during the summer that she had a baby brother.

Fenris hugged Ray tightly. "Yes. I'll come to the family dinner." she said, not letting go of him.

"F-Fenny. C-Can't. B-Breathe. Let. Go." Fenris quickly released him. She hadn't realized she'd been squeezing that hard.

"Oops. Sorry. Forgot my own strength for a sec." she said sheepishly.

"It's okay." he said, shaking out his shoulders. "Thanks for coming. The dinner is this Friday at 6PM. But, I want you to come a little earlier so you can meet Mary's sister."

She nodded her head, "Okay. What's her name?"

"Oh, her name is Annabelle. She's a year younger than us."

"Pretty name."

Ray just nodded his head. He grabbed the remote for Fenris' TV and turned it on, flipping through channels until he got to their favorite show. Criminal Minds, they both loved the show, and it just so happened that their favorite episode, Profiling 101, was playing.

The episode was over and a new one was playing, but it wasn't that interesting. Ray turned the volume down a bit and looked at Fenris. "So, Fenny, have you made any new friends? Meet any new interesting people?"

Fenris raised her eyebrow. "Why?"

He shrugged his shoulders, "I don't know. I mean I only see you at lunch and after school, not including the weekends. So I really don't know how your school life is going."

Fenris thought for a sec. She hadn't really made new friends, though she did try to talk to people in her class. But she's sort of socially awkward and she doesn't look the friendliest so people never talked to her.

But then Fenris thought of the first day of school. Her short mystery girl. She hadn't caught a glimpse of the girl since that first moment, but she was always keeping an eye out for her. No matter what was going on the short girl was never far from her thoughts.

" Oh my God. Is THE Fenris blushing?" Ray exclaimed looking at her.

Fenris felt her cheeks and sure enough they felt warmer than usual.

"You met someone didn't you. Tell me who. IS IT YOUR MATE? DID YOU FIND YOUR MATE AND NOT TELL ME?!"

Before Ray could blame her any further for finding her mate she put her hand over his mouth. "No Ray, I didn't find my mate."

Taking her hand off his mouth he looked at her questioningly. "Then why were you blushing? I mean last year a girl threw herself at you while she was butt-naked and you didn't blush or look twice at her."

Fenris started rubbing her neck nervously. "Well, I actually saw this girl the first day of school. She was short and cute but also sexy. She had the most beautiful eyes, they were forest green, I've never seen eyes that green. This girl was beautiful, but it feels like that word isn't enough to show how gorgeous she is. I don't think any word could describe her beauty." she said smiling. Her smile quickly turned to a frown when she thought of the girl glaring at her. "But she glared at me when she saw me and walked away. When I went to find her I couldn't." she sighed.

Ray grabbed her face forcing her gold and red eyes to meet his dark brown ones. "Fenris. You. Found. Your. Mate." he said, shaking her head with each word.

"Ray, no I didn't."

He started squishing her cheeks so she would make a fish face. "Yes you did. I can feel it. All we have to do now is find this girl and you can shake her hand or kiss her. Something. She is your mate. Think about it Fenny. You've always said you like girls but never showed any interest. This girl shows up and you are acting as lovestruck as me when I think of Mary." Ray smiled, "This mystery girl is your mate, and I'm gonna help you find her."

With that final statement Ray got off the couch and left with a determined look on his face.

[Oh Goddess I hope we don't scare this poor girl. But it would be nice to see her again, maybe make it so she doesn't hate me.]

Fenris got up and turned off the TV before going back to her room to finish her homework before bed.
