6 A conversation and powers!

"Fucking hell..."

The old man shakes his head as I silently look at him. "No, this has nothing to do with hell... But I understand the surprise, it may take time."

'Is this serious? As well? This encounter with the cosmic being responsible for the transmigration normally should happen before the thing rolls or just in the final stretch of the story, revealing itself as a kind of final boss or something...'

Getting a little freaked out by that above thought, I start my first sentence after the shock.

"You... didn't come here to explain some kind of evil plan behind bringing me into this world, right?" I gesture slowly, trying to appear as calm as possible even though I'm in complete chaos inside.

"Not that I'm finding it bad, far from me, I particularly believe it would be super interesting... But I warn you that if this plan depends on my personal competence, the chances of failure are great."

If it's really something like that, I don't intend to be a clichéd protagonist who is openly opposed to an ultra powerful entity, my life in the first place.

*pff* The old man exhales air from his lips, before breaking into an even bigger wave of laughter than before. Honestly, having a cosmic entity in the form of an old man laughing at me makes me a little more uncomfortable than the fact that I'm naked in the middle of a rainstorm.

The laughter starts to stop, slowly being replaced by dry breaths and coughs.

"Hahaha... *cough* Haha... I like your humor, son..." The old man patted his own chest a few times, stopping the coughing. "But no, that has nothing to do with why I'm here... I mean, almost nothing."

"Th-thanks…" I reply trying to be polite.

I think I can feel a little relieved, an 'almost nothing' is already much better than a 'certainly'.

"We are meeting here today as I would like to congratulate you on your actions tonight... I knew I could survive the woman in white but stop her from killing Troy and lay her 'to rest' days before the Winchesters show up? It was a nice surprise." He puts both hands on the cane, moving his head up and down a few times. "A very welcome surprise..."

Just like the previous laugh, I feel that he expresses a strange satisfaction with drops of bitterness.

"Got it... Thanks again, so..." There being room for me to speak again, I bring my left hand up, nervously rubbing the back of my neck. "Sorry if I'm being a little too blunt... But if you don't have an evil plan, what exactly is the point of all this?"

At my question, I can see the man's features lose all their amusement, replaced by an aquamarine solemnity.

The puckered lips move about to speak, when sudden agitation hits the ground of spirit territory. '!' I throw myself off balance, landing on my seat with it.

"Our time is up, son... Any more than that and 'he' might notice us." The old man says turning his eyes to the sky, unaffected by the tremors.

Sensing a crisis approaching, I fume, "What do you mean? Who are you talking about? What am I supposed to-" He cuts off my questions with one word:

"Jason!" Hearing my name called like that, I shut up immediately.

The ground around us begins to break into havinas and the sky cracks.

"Just continue what you're already doing. When you're stronger we'll meet again... And that's when I'll reveal everything to you."

With the end of these words, the spiritual space collapses into darkness.

--- Jericho's Hospital(U.S.A.), October 24, 2005, Afternoon...

My eyelids flutter a little before they slowly open, and moving only my eyes I take in my surroundings.

I find myself lying on a bed in a small room with white walls; On my left side there is a simple bedside table with a vase of flowers, next to it is a serum holder; On the right side, about a meter away, there is a simple window through which the late afternoon sunlight enters, bathing the entire room and a little further in front of the bed, above the door, there is a support holding a tube TV turned off. .

An ordinary hospital room.

I suck in air deeply through my nostrils with a little discomfort from the nasal splint placed on it, when inflating my chest I feel a little discomfort with the presence of bandages all over my torso, but it doesn't even hurt like when that ghost stuck her fingers in me... I slowly exhale the air through my mouth, closing my eyes again with serenity.

'I'm alive.'

Screw the old cosmic dream or anything else, I made it out of that hellish encounter alive and am back in a safe environment. I'm silent, feeling the gentle warmth of the sun touching me, comfortably enjoying the stillness.

A few minutes of pure peace pass... Until my mind returns to full reasoning, remembering what can be said with the only good thing that came out of that encounter with the woman in white.

I open my eyes and touch my own thigh, making a system window open:

[Jason Blanc]

- A 21-year-old Brazilian young man, six feet tall, with brown eyes and hair, tanned skin and, after some misadventures, well-defined muscles.

"Look at these files..." I say to myself with a smile that is kind of scary because it's so wide.

"two thousand dollars?!" I almost cry out in amazement at the amount of the medical bill the hospital worker hands me.

"Sorry sir, but it took an ambulance to be sent to the scene, and surgeries were performed to stop bleeding and stomach acid leakage...To tell you the truth, normally a case like yours would have been much more difficult to treat, but your recovery was far beyond average." She explains with an expression a little scared by the way I reacted.

I stare at her, still a little incredulous, but it doesn't seem like it's a joke.

"Alright then." I sigh, folding the paper and putting it in my pocket, an oddly satisfied smile creeping across my face. "thank you for the treatment."

So I leave the hospital through its entrance, standing there on the sidewalk with my hands on my hips in the middle of the twilight period. People circulating calmly through the streets, many of them returning home after a day of work and others leaving.

"What a beautiful sunset." I talk to myself, feeling on cloud nine.

I am in a foreign country with only my clothes on my back, in the year 2005, my nose is broken and I owe a two thousand dollars, But...

'I officially have supernatural powers, baby!'

First, human peak-level attributes!

I take my hands off my waist and flex my arm muscles. My two forearms are as wide and firm as logs, just like them, the muscles of my entire body are beautifully carved like those of a Greek god. I would take the shirt off to visualize my new ripped abs, but the bandages are unfortunately on top.

If I'm a little narcissistic, I plant a peck on each bicep. 'I'm hot as fuck.'

"Mom, what is that man doing?" A child accompanied by his mother points at me. "Ignore son, he's just a gym rat." Says the mother pulling the child.

I then break the pose, feeling my face burn a little with the return of my sense of embarrassment after this mother-son dialogue.

Good, let's continue! This time I surreptitiously look at a bottle cap lying in the middle of the street. Just a little concentration and the object shakes, in a few moments starting to levitate, I guide it with my eyes to a dumpster on the corner.

'Yes, finally I can pursue my childhood dream of being a Jedi Master.'

Jokes aside, in a world where you will almost always need some special object or weapon to deal with evil creatures, being able to move them with your mind will be very useful.

After tossing the bottle cap into the trash can, I turn for a moment back to the hospital. Through the same entrance I came out of, I see a middle-aged man wearing a black suit and a neutral expression on his face, accompanied by an elderly woman in a hospital gown.

The two pass by my side, making me shiver, and continue walking forward together, crossing the people and objects in the street.

'A reapers and a banshee...'

The sense of the veil. Being a very partial version of the veil-walking ability of the woman in white, I cannot interact with the veil and the beings within it in any way, only detect them with my senses. Like a medium.

Well, these are the reasons for my current great mood, the false security given by suddenly obtaining slightly superhuman abilities even though the world I find myself in is full of supernatural beings capable of the same and even more... Yeah, nothing like the optimism.

*Cell phone ring* I feel the right pocket of my jeans vibrate as I'm delivering my monologue. He picks up the touch-screen cell phone, I read on the screen: "Troy Squire". I click answer and put it to my ear.

"Hey man, how long will it take to get here?" I'm the first one on the line.

"Relax, I'm two blocks away... So, how's your stomach?" He answers casually on the other end of the line.

"Stuck but perfectly fine, the doctors here in Jericho did an excellent job." As I speak I give two light touches on my belly.

"Obviously, it's the city I've spent my whole life we're talking about... The only flaw is that it's small." Troy says with some pride, making me laugh a little. "That yes, but it's a pity that I can't call the price of the service small either... It was a two thousand dollars."

"For me it was almost like that too, welcome to America my Latin friend. Arriba!"

"Dude, you know that in Brazil we don't speak Spanish, right?"

"Really?!" He tells me in amazement.

I just shake my head, laughing anyway.

Troy's wounds were lighter than mine, so he woke up and was discharged almost two days early. And as he could see, the experience between life and death confronting a haunting brought us very close. So with me not knowing anyone else in this town it was assumed that Troy would pick me up when he left the hospital.

And speaking of him, it is he who stops the car in front of me, a Volkswagen very similar to his, only dark red, which he is driving while our faithful automobile "companion" is being repaired from the damage that night.

Hanging up the phone, I open the driver's door and take my seat... Not buckling this time.

"Aah, I see that now someone trusts my direction..." he scoffed. "So where did you say you wanted to go after you left?"

"It's not that much, but yes... And we're going to the lottery in town."

Towards performing one of the mandatory steps for someone with a system like mine.
