1 Chapter 1

I pulled my thin coat closer to my body. It started to get colder at night even though it's only September. Darn this Minnesota weather.

It was almost midnight when I reached the basement of a abandon office complex. There were people everywhere itching to see a fight. I made my way over to the ring in the middle of the room and stopped in front of the table. The woman there smiled at me as I wrote my name on the yellow paper.

"How are you Dawn?" She asked without making eye contact with me.

"Fine" I mutter as I finish writing my name.

She nodded and handed the paper to a guy in a tacky blue suit. He looked at me nodded before entering the ring.

"Ladies and gentlemen" he called out and everyone turned to face him. "For this match, the winner shall receive $500 dollars."

Everyone started to clap and holler and I looked at them with disgust. I hated these kinds of places. I hated that I had to fight to get money to survive. And I hated myself for not stopping sooner.

"Now, will the two ladies who signed up please enter the ring at this time" he said with a smile.

I slid into the ring and walked to the corner and took my coat off. Normally I was good at fighting. I took martial arts as a child and I was good.

The bell rang and I turned around to face my opponent. Right then and there I knew I was screwed. The woman in front of my was three times my size and had to be at least six foot. Compared to my five foot three I knew I would loss and I won't eat tonight.

I closed my eyes and waited for the blow. When it struck it was straight into my abdomen. I fell to the bloody mat gasping for breath. The next hit came in the same spot but this time she used her foot.

My body refused to move. Out of all the matches I've been in this one has to be the worst. I heard the ref count to ten to declare the other girl the winner and me the loser. I got booed as I stood and slid off the ring. I grabbed my coat and left.
