"Robert? Robert!" Martin repeated to the communicator, "Respond if you hear this! Robert, respond!"
The communicator remained silent.
"When I lost the heartbeat monitoring of security officer Robert, I heard the sound of steel striking a human body," Moss reported. "Under the circumstances where a security officer may have encountered danger, we can initiate a Level 1 alert."
Moss's programming dictated that if a team member didn't respond after three attempts, the same team and other teams on the same mission would be notified. This was because of the need to filter out irrelevant noises during missions, as simultaneous communication on the same channel could easily confuse. Only in extremely urgent missions would multiple channels and multiple teams engage in real-time communication; usually, only single-team communication would be enabled.
