8 Trying to Finish what I started

Leo was soon ready to head out. He wore clothes that would ensure maximum flexibility. He promised himself that getting caught would be the last thing that would happen to him, and when he comes back,  the pill will be in his hand—no matter what.

He prepared to head out, but on reaching the door he suddenly stopped; like a robot, he quickly turned to his mom's room to have one last look. That way his memories of his mom and his sister would be fresh should something happen to him.

Sigh...

He reached the room, and though it was night, the light of the moon was illuminating the room, giving him light so that he could see quite clearly.

Slightly removing the mask, he watched his mother's face. Her face was pale, and it was quite peaceful, but deep, behind the mask; he could clearly see what she was going through.

Things were hard for her after the death of her husband. She had suffered a lot.

Her face was pale, her eyes wide open and not blinking, not moving, as still as a rock. Her natural blue hair sometimes moving to cover her face.

She just lay there unmoving, crying sometimes. Her cry was just tears, no sobbing or trembling, no wailing, nothing like that. Sometimes she would start uttering inaudible words like a lunatic.

After she fell sick, about a month ago, Leo had to shoulder all the responsibility of his father at a young age; compared to boys of his age he was stronger, wiser, and more mature.

He had to do odd jobs to get money. Not that kinds of jobs are abundant; they are rare.

Why? Because most things in the house could be done with Magic. In this world, a house was many times stronger than those on earth and could be built within a week or so.

As he looked at her face, he sighed. Crying is not an option as he is not a child, and neither is he a crybaby. It's not as if crying could solve anything anyway. He is the current man of the house so he needed to act like one!

The cause of all this is the Emperor, and he will stop at nothing until the Emperor pays for his mistake. He had to get strong, and quick.

After looking at his mother for a while, he looked at his sister.

He looked at the peaceful face of his sister. She snuggled close to their mother. Her blue hair was inherited from his mother while his silver hair was from his father.

Watching their faces seemed to have strengthened his resolve. He promised himself that he would not allow himself to get caught or killed no matter what, as his death will not help, but it would break his mother's heart instead. He must get the pill even if it's at the cost of his life.

To get the pill, he would have to try his very best, but things should be easy tonight—unless these people somehow came to know that he would steal it tonight and prepare beforehand. He was prepared for the worst kind of scenario that may or may not happen though, just in case.

Giving them each a light kiss on their foreheads, he muttered under his breath, "Don't worry Mom, don't worry sis, your big brother will be back before you know it...I will survive."

Though he knew that those people did not know, he had a feeling that he might be wrong, and that what he will face would be big—bigger than anything that he had imagined.

He walked out as quietly as he could to make sure that he did not disturb his family.

'What's this feeling?' He had this kind of uneasy feeling; it was trying to overwhelm him.

He had prepared for this day a long time ago, and backing down now was not an option. Whatever it is, he will face it head-on, no matter how powerful.

'Is this because it's my first time trying to steal this kind of thing in this kind of way?' Though he thought that's what it was, another part of him was screaming at him, telling him that things are not like that. There was more to it than the eyes could see.

With this kind of feeling, he was quite sure that things will go south, his instincts has never failed him before. However, he could not live another day with his mother still in that state. Though he had not taken her to the hospital as that was far above his earnings...he could barely afford food and clothing. That's why he had to steal it no matter what.

'What could possibly go wrong?'

He told no one, so how would they know? Not even his sister knows of it. He was trying to comfort himself though he already knew the answer.

From his feeling so far, he was freaking sure that that woman knew and would probably be waiting for him.

'Even if she knows that I want it to the extent of stealing, how would she know the exact day or time I am going to do that? Unless she had some sort of artifact that helps her see the future or something like that?' Leo thought loudly, as he quietly walked through the forest.

Though it was a forest, all the Cultivation beasts in it had been cleared by Cultivators to prevent future attacks from inside thief territory. That way they could put all their focus on the outside beasts' attack on the village.

What could be seen were normal rabbits, rats, owls, and other wildlife that had not yet mutated. Any mutated beasts are killed immediately by Cultivators. Their meat and other body parts were useful in one way or another and could be sold for good money.

He had already researched and knew some information that would help him during the raid. The first thing he knows is that she does not trade at night.

He soon arrived at the Alchemy shop, albeit after passing by a few people along the way.

He noticed something unusual tonight; he couldn't spot even a single person in the street of the shop.

It was as if the whole street had been deserted, He noticed something was off.

'What's wrong!?'

Even though it was night, at least twenty percent of the population during the day was usually here.

He did not think too much of it, he just started to break open the window as quietly as he could.

'Master, you should have leveled up before coming here.'

'Shit! What now? I am so foolish!' hearing the System's words, Leo felt like slapping himself a thousand times

He was such in a hurry that he forgot to get stronger by entering the dungeon. But now, he had to finish what he started.

***

I know the MC acted foolishly.

But this would be the last time it will happen.

It's natural for someone to forget something crucial when blinded by their emotions.

So please take heart.
