Every time Kaito would level up, he would earn three attribute points. Up until now, he tried to balance his stats as much as possible, since not having a basic amount of strength, agility and vitality would eventually kill him. However, he had already reached mid genin-level in terms of pure physical stats. He could now focus on increasing his chakra reserves, which would translate to longer and more intense use of puppets. Eventually, he would even be able to use more puppets at a time.
After the battlefield calmed, Eiji and Aki helped him retrieve his shuriken. This was an aspect of battles that you did not see in the series...The painstakingly annoying time when he needed to retrieve the weapons he threw. And here, he had hundreds of shurikens to retrieve.
"This is annoying", Eiji complained, "Why must I retrieve the shurikens that you threw? AWRK...It's disgusting...The guy shat on himself"
Aki sighed: "Can't you make an effort? Kaito saved us the effort of battling, taking care of them all in an instant!"
Kaito ignored them.
After retrieving all of the shurikens, Kaito found something of interest.

The leader of those sand drifters possessed an interesting object.
His genin sunagakure uniform already provided him with a (+4) modifier on all his stats, namely strength, agility, vitality and chakra. Plus, the sungakure headband gave him an additional point in chakra.
He had seen some other objects in markets which could increase his stats...but most of the time, they were too expensive. Instead, he would prefer invest his money in his puppets and research, which was more effective at raising his strength. Still, finding one such artefact, as small and invaluable as it was, was an unexpected surprise.

It was not just a quantitative change...
Usually, when you increased your reserves of chakra, you would eventually lose out in control. This was also the reason why jurinchuriki possessed less refined skills, and would usually just burst out massive ninjutsu rather than focusing on complex transformation of chakra like experienced jonin who refined their chakra.
The system allowed him to increase his chakra reserves...without losing on his control over it. This was perhaps the strongest aspect of this system.
'I hope I will be able to level up once more before the end of this mission...', Kaito thought inwardly, knowing that the chunin examination was getting closer and closer.
