32 Butterfly Effect

In the Sunagakure Genin Corps main building, Taki was looking at the pile of documents in front of him and sighed: "That's not going away by itself, huh?"

Having a lot of administrative work was not rare. However, the sheer size of the pile was unseen before. The reason was simple: Sunagakure had decided to prepare for its biggest operation since the third Great Ninja War.

His assistant, chunin Jiya, scratched her head with an awkward smile, obviously burnt out by the amount of work she was going through, selecting teams based on their mission records and client evaluation, but also their potential and specific skills, allocating them to various strategic points for the incoming mission.

Although Jiya was just a chunin, she came from the Riyose Clan. Her clan was not very strong in terms of pure combat skills. In fact, it could be said that it was one of the weakest clans. However, they have produced incredible medical nins since the foundation of Sunagakure, and they were also known for their intellect. Taki thus decided to use her as an assistant, as her insights on shinobi were even better than his.

Taki was the jonin in charge of the platoon 3, and he was in charge of roughly 50 teams of genins. Although this work was quite taxing in terms of admnistrative procedures and decision making, it was also very crucial for the growth of Sunagakure, which had suffered quite a bit in the Third World Shinobi War. In the past few years, Sunagakure was slowly regaining its former glory military-wise and economy-wise, their daunting invasion on the Land of Rivers having been acknowledged by the Damyô of the Land of Wind, who previously doubted Sungakure's ability.

With more trust from the Damyô of the land himself, the hidden village was getting ahold of more missions, which was good for the economy and this eventually cemented the new generation's growth.

The next file picked his interest.

Team 146.

296 D-rank missions, 23 C-rank missions and 1 B-rank mission.

'Looking at the number of missions they completed...If I did not know them personally, I would have guessed they have ten years of experience...', Taki thought

D-rank missions were missions attributed to genins. The related activity could go from investigating a problem to patrolling in the borders. The average genin team would complete roughly 50 D-rank missions a year.

C-rank missions were usually longer, and they would be attributed to mid or high-genins or chunins. The average elite genin would only complete 10 C-rank missions a year, taking into account rest, travelling time and training.

As for B-rank missions, they were reserved for elite chunins and jonins, so it was absurd to see one on the records of a team of genins.

Taki then looked at the notes he had taken over the four past years. From their graduation at the Sungakure Shinobi Academy to the present day, Taki had observed and used them to their fullest potential. From a team of untalented, average shinobi, they had become the one elite team of his platoon, a force to reckon with, a force that he used for the strategically most important missions, which cemented his platoon's succes.

[Eiji : A kenjutsu specialist with chunin-level swordsmanship and physique. His ninjutsu is above-average for a kenjutsu specialist too, at high-genin level. Built with a strong sense of friendship with his teammates, he has readily shown his worth in the team as he has taken the role of protecting his team captain Kaito]

[Aki : A ninjutsu specialist with chunin-level chakra reserves and techniques. Although she was the weakest link of the team for a long time, her recent training and life and death missions allowed her to become much more versatile and deploy her full potential. Her lack of mental power, however, has shown she has not any talent in genjutsu. Her role in the team is not essential, but she has proven herself a decent support]

[Kaito : Having always shown high chakra control, he has nurtured his talent as a puppeteer. Having created several C-rank puppet designs in the puppet brigade, he has displayed chunin-level fighting prowess repeatedly. As for his most valuable asset, it would be his leadership skills, as he confidently raised his team's standards to reach his current prestige. He has also shown tremendous loyalty towards the village, and is aware of the harsh reality of the shinobi world. Highly autonomous during missions and prioritizing his own survival over everything else]

Three genins, who Taki initially evaluated as average, had risen to become the asset of the platoon he was in charge with. It was not just individual strength in which they excelled, but their efficiency as a team.

Normally, genins from the Sunagakure Genin Corps would take decades before meeting the standards of becoming chunins, and even then, they would have to go through chunin exams, either hosted in the wind dunes of Sunagakure, or hosted by another village altogether.

The chunin exams are usually an opportunity for hidden villages to strengthen their alliances and get their powers checked against other villages.

This time around, the Sunagakure village decided to send 13 teams, thus amounting for 39 genins, into the chunin exams hosted by Tanigakure.

However, this was not just a regular chunin exam for Sunagakure. It was a massive operation that began months ago. Although the genins participating in the chunin exams were in the dark, the sunagakure anbu had already infiltrated the Tanigakure village as citizens. They were already preparing for a fully commited invasion of Tanigakure and its destruction.

A tactic that should have been used for the Konoha invasion eight years later...was already in motion for a different village.
