6 Change.

Everything that just happened went by very quick in real time, but for some it felt as if hours had just passed. People started to let down their guards thinking that this was the end of this monstrous earthquake. <They just had to jinx it didn't they?>

This peaceful moment lasted for a whole 5 minutes before the second and bigger wave came crashing down on everyone, only this time it wasn't in the form of a massive earthquake. It was in the form of fog, some might think of this fog as something harmless but they would be extremely wrong. This fog was one of the most dangerous things ever to be on earth, if this fog were to cover the whole earth everything would die, from animals and humans to microorganisms that could live for millenia in the harshest of environments.

This fog was meant to kill anything that it touched, yet it somehow was unable to do so. When it was busy covering most of the earth and killing millions of people it suddenly changed. When it came in contact with a gas that was being released from one of the open cracks inside the earth it changed, just like a chemical reaction. This gas that it came in contact with originated back millions of years ago and if it were not for the cracks in the earth humanity would never have been in contact with it.

Instead of doing its intended job of killing everything it began mutating, and in turn it started mutating everything it touches. Plants started to develop healing factors that would be able to heal lost limbs and other strange fictional properties and animals started to gain strength and magical abilities foreign to them. These mutated animals were growing deformed limbs and others evolved more intelligently.

The less intelligent became known as monsters due to their appearance, and the ones which gained intelligence and the ability to speak were able to create their own little society due to them being very similar to humans. The monsters were the one humanity was actively fighting against, but in the beginning it wasn't just them. Humanity and their infinite wisdom and greed also started conflict with the intelligent animals because of fear and people taking opportunities to satisfy their own needs.

(A/N : Now, I am thinking about adding Mutated humans such as demi-humans and the likes, I want to know how you feel about it in the comments. I am currently 50/50 about this, so your feedback would be appreciated. Keep in mind that intelligent animals and demi-humans would be different if they were added.)

Stories dating back in history tell enough about how human greed can lead them to their demise, and even in today's society many fall into the clutches of greed. I was one of them, I did not become a hunter because I felt obliged to or some heroic duty, it of course was all about money. The rich were able to lead lives of leisure and luxury and the poor had to fight to stay alive just to see the sun rise another day, day in day out for their whole life.

Although due to the sudden change in the world the poor were able to more easily obtain wealth but this wealth would sometimes be short lived since the world became so much more dangerous.

But now that I have this power that came to me for free, well it cost me my life, I can do whatever I want without being bound to human rules and their oppression. I can do what I want and take what I want, although material possessions are useless to me as I can't do anything with it.

Money, I can't buy anything since I can't be seen by a human without getting attacked. Food, I have not felt any hunger so far so that is something I need to research further in to. Affection, even my own mother would not like my face, seeing how it makes me look like I want to eat and kill your whole family and their neighbours. Morals, although I still have a human way of thinking, my rationality will make in me no way able to have the same morals I grew up with.

Wherever the internet was still active news channels could be seen broadcasting the damage that the storms and earthquakes left behind but most of these news channels were not being received by the population. Either because they were all dead or fled the area, some of the bigger nations evacuated the population to camps where there was a 24/7 watch.

This was barely manageable because the monsters had yet to evolve defences against guns and explosives, but the stronger countries were having it relatively easy. Especially the one who had it's encounter with Osiris, although these storms came in quick succession after Osiris they had miraculously recovered within hours. This shows how humans are actually very similar to cockroaches, always miraculously seeming to survive near extinction.
