162 Jason's last day of Travel

Jason woke up to the loud sound of Charlie and the red barrack leaders shouting at them to get up and get ready to set off. It was still early in the morning and the sun had just barely gotten up.

Jason yawned and walked over the edge of the tent he and the rest of the Blue two team members slept in. He lifted up the tent peg while the rest of the team dug out the rest.

He had done the exact same thing 3 days in a row. The first morning was pretty hectic, he woke up to shouting and he was just really disoriented even thought the rest of the barrack members moved around quickly like they were trained for this.

Sometimes a person would run by calling for one of the Blue 2 members to come and help them. Which they did and Jason could hear then explaining something or talking to somebody. Jason could hear Lyle shouting at some red barrack members about something related to how they put an angry spider in his sleeping bag.

Things were obviously laxer in the camp since they had no real designated leaders. If say a real battalion leader was there. Then Jason was sure they would all have straightened out and would have actually acted like real knights. But now, Jason enjoyed watching some of the red barrack members placing their elbows on Lyle's head. He enjoyed it, even more, when Lyle gave them both a clean uppercut that sent them flying into the air.

Jason averted his eyes from the carnage that was going on. He looked at Ethan who was next to him. He just averted his eyes like he had nothing to do with Lyle using the sturdy red barrack members in a rage and throwing them around like pillows.

They were only one day away from Earl Grey's territory and everyone wasn't exactly as focused and serious as he thought they were. Jason saw most of the camp, from the tents to the sullies that were laying around. Neatly packed up in a long line where the wagons and horses were waiting.

Some of the more serious red barrack members were currently lifting the heavy looking supplies into the wagons. Jason didn't see any green barrack members, in fact, he hadn't caught a glimpse of a single green barrack member yet he could occasionally see a blue barrack member walking out to get some food, but most of them were in a large tent that hadn't been taken down yet.

He could hear some chatter in the tent, but he couldn't pay attention to that since Jeffery and the rest of the gang were looking at him curiously. One of the older wolves asked

"Boss, where are the nice snako hoomans?"

Jason had to think for a bit until he finally realized that they were talking about the green barrack members. He squatted down until he was face to face with the wolves and said

"sorry, I'm not sure where they are"

Jason could see the mood of the pack dropdown. Jeffery especially looked devastated, in fact, they looked a bit too sad. Jason saw some of the wolves whimper and collapse like it was the end of the world. Even the older wolves joined in, and Jason had the impression that they were the more mature ones too.

Jason started to panic since the wolves started to attract some attention. Jeffery could be seen rolling around the grassy ground randomly. And some of the younger wolves were looking at him with puppy eyes.

In a state of panic, Jason brought out some beef jerky to give to the wolves. The moment he brought it out of his inventory. All of the wolves instantly stopped their tantrums and racket. Jeffery jumped up a few feet in the air while rotating to face the jerky the moment he smelled it. He ran to Jason's back constantly nuzzling his nose against his back trying to get the food.

The wolves instantly closed in around him. There was no sign of the previous sadness and Jason looked around at them and then he suddenly realized something.

He slowly pulled back his outstretched hand that had the bag of jerky. He narrowed his eyes and said

"you guys aren't actually that sad huh?"

All of the wolves froze and a sudden awkward silence permeated the air. It was interrupted by Jeffery who leapt towards Jason and grabbed the bag.

He ran to a place a few meters away dropped the bag of Jerky and shouted to the wolves

"WE'VE BEEN CAUGHT EAT DEM FOODS"

All of the wolves ran to Jeffery and started to tear the bag apart. Jason couldn't only watch helplessly as the wolves celebrated their bamboozle of him.

One of the older wolves Asher if Jason remembered correctly after a bit of time approached him with a bit of jerky on his cheek.

"hooman, you may be mad at us, but we got desperate since we didn't get any food in the past hour"

Jason nodded

"ah yes, I guess that's reasonable I should have just given.... wait I'm sorry did you just say a fricking hour?"

Asher nodded happily

"yup, snakoes every hour hooman"

Jason facepalmed and internally thanked and cursed the green barrack members for taking such good care of the wolves yet at the same time turning them into hungry machines.

One of the younger wolves who had just finished swallowing a bit of jerky lifted his head up and shouted

"SNAKOES MAKE US STWONGGGGGG"

If Jason didn't know wolf language it would have looked like the wolf was celebrating a successful kill of something which would have looked pretty intimidating. But then again that was the same wolf that ran into a tree at full speed. Boops actually recorded that so Jason was looking forward to showing that wolf the vid when he got the right subsystem for it.

The wolves didn't waste any time and soon they left the place where the bag of jerky was with contented burps.

Jason had just lost a bag of jerky to the wolves, but he didn't think much of the event. He had a giant campaign in front of him to worry about.

But then Jeffery slightly poked him with his nose. Jason looked down to see Jeffery holding in his teeth the bag of Jerky that they had just stolen. Jason kneeled down and picked up the torn bag. As he picked it up, large pieces of jerky feel to the ground. Jason widened his eyes in surprise as it was much larger than the portions the wolves had taken. In fact, when Jason looked closer, it was around a quarter of the jerky in the bag.

Jeffery started to speak in his loud voice

"BOSS ALWAYS GET MORE OF SNAKOES SINCE HE BOSS"

Jason decided to ignore the fact that they were just giving him back something that was already his. He sighed to himself and said to Jeffery

"you can have my share"

Jeffery's head shot up at lightning speed and looked at Jason.

"HOOMAN YOU SURE?"

Jason facepalmed and said in an exasperated tone

"yes, just.... wait a second you planned this again didn't you?"

Jason looked up to see Jeffery running away with the bag of Jerky swinging around in his mouth.

Jason followed Jeffery with his eyes and then let out a slight chuckle a bit later since the two older wolves Asher and Lance ambushed Jeffery before he could reach the wagon which the wolves rode.

Jeffery was young and had the power of youth on his side, but Asher and Lance were much more experienced, and soon Jeffery was left defeated on the grass staring sadly at the two tiny pieces of Jerky that the older wolves had left for him.

But that didn't stop Jeffery from eating the two pieces he had left, he quickly swallowed it savoring the flavor and climbed back into the wagon.

While Jason was screwing around with the wolves the rest of the platoon finished packing up and getting ready and most of them were in formation.

Jason scrambled to his position, thankfully he didn't need to pack anything thanks to his inventory.

Jason nodded to Lyle and Colby who were next to him. Lyle waved with a cheeky and victorious grin. His hand also had a bit of blood on it but Jason decided to ignore it, he had been at the end of that fist and he didn't ever want to do that again.

Colby simply nodded back and his gaze returned to the front of the formation where their destination was.

A familiar horn blew and the entire platoon started to march. The steady and firm steps sounded from all around the plains, echoing until it sounded like an entire army was marching.

Perhaps that was the point of marching here, Jason didn't know. But what he did know was that he was getting closer to a place where EXP would be running around just for him to grab, and he really couldn't wait
