Chapter 23 - The Beginning of a Long Battle

The magic released by the flame sword became hotter and hotter. Not only that, Griffin also felt the magic in his body getting stronger. The magic he was producing felt even denser than before. Griffin dashed forward and started joining the fight. His sword quickly slashed at the incoming beasts.

Two small hell hounds with agile movements attacked Griffin from two different directions.

But no matter how many he killed, the monsters would just keep coming for more. This is the great dark magic of venus area. As long as there were magicians in the designated area, monsters from hell would be continuously summoned to this place.

In the middle of his fight, Griffin saw something on the ground. There is a red line that connects with other lines. Those are the lines that make up the magic circle for the venus area.

"How can I stop this?"

Griffin confused what to do. He didn't have enough time to stop all these monsters, protect the witches in Lirest, then destroy the venus area. Not if he's alone.

There are many mages who are also trying to fight back. But with mages whose average level was only 5-6, they had a hard time fighting monsters with higher levels, especially with this many.

Not far away, weak and helpless witches were running towards the forest. They didn't know where to go, but what was certain was that they had to run away from the monsters.

Several bats flew low trying to catch the witches.

"Watch out!" Griffin shouted when he saw the witches about to be attacked.

All the witches there were happy when they saw Isabella coming.

"Take cover in the forest, but keep moving in groups. Wizards who are still strong enough to fight, contain these monsters while the others evacuate!"

From Isabella's one direction, all the witches there became excited and started fighting the monsters.

Isabella stepped forward and slashed at the monsters.

"Griffin, you know how to stop the venus area?"

"There are only two ways to stop it. Kill the mages who activated this magic, or destroy the core of the magic circle that is under our feet."

Hearing those words, Isabella realized that on the ground there was a magic circle with a very large size. Dust covered the circle, and the state of chaos prevented her from noticing the magic circle.

"Then how can we destroy the core of this magic circle?"

"I dunno, depending on where and how Barnes made this magic."

Meanwhile in the sinner prison, Raymond can hear the chaos outside. People voice was so loud that he could hear it from inside the prison.

Someone came casually. He was whistling at every light step like he was dancing.

"Hey Raymond Alfredo."

Raymond looked at the person who had arrived.

The man threw the bodies of Edison and Cody who were knocked unconscious.

Raymond was shocked to see the two people.

"Uncle Edison!"

Raymond could see that Edison was dead. Because with such a big wound, there was no blood flowing out, meaning that Edison's blood had run out.

"What did you do to uncle!" Raymond glared at the man in front of him, who was none other than Barnes Esteban.

Very tall adult male. His hair is black, his eyes are narrow and sharp in accordance with his cunning character. Makes anyone who sees it want to beat him up.

"Hey, you are accusing the wrong person. It wasn't me who killed that old man, but your little brother."

Barnes stepped on Cody's head.

Raymond glared at Barnes.

"What made you so mad at me? You don't like me stepping on your little brother head?"

Raymond did not answer.

"HA HA HA HA! You are so funny Raymond Alfredo! After what Cody did, you still want to protect him?! I didn't expect Lirest's leader to be this ridiculous!"

"That is none of your business!"

"Yeah, well, it's none of my business. But it was fun toying with this kid."

"What do you mean?"

Barnes stared with a sly smile before answering.

"I only asked him to work together to take Lirest. If successful, then he has some power to rule Lirest. To think he would actually believe that nonsense."

"You tricked him?"

"It's his own fault for being too stupid. There's no way I could give up half of Lirest's power to an arrogant brat who doesn't know his place like him. Weak and stupid. He thought I was forced to cooperate with him just because he had magic that could maximize the power of the magic herbs in Lirest. So silly!"

Barnes kicked Cody hard in the stomach, sending him flying and crashing into the wall of the sinner cage.

"What are you doing!" Raymond snapped while struggling. But the chains that bound his feet and hands prevented him from moving any further.

"There's no need to strain like that, I won't kill him now. You're going to die sooner or later anyway."

For a moment, they both could feel vibrations from up above.

Ah, looks like the monsters are getting impatient.

"What monsters do you mean?"

"Just some small monsters will destroy your homeland. Including your two friends who beat Cody Alfredo."

Raymond thought for a moment. The friends Barnes should have meant were Isabella and Griffin. But he remembered that Griffin said Isabella's magic was sealed.

"Then Griffin beat Cody?" That was the conclusion he could think of. But he didn't expect that an outside wizard would be strong enough to defeat Cody.

"Enjoy your time in prison. Don't worry, I will collect the corpses of the witches in Lirest and pile them up in front of you, before you are executed."

Barnes walked away with a very loud laugh. He enjoyed thinking how Lirest would destroyed and become his. Raymond was furious to see Barnes, but there was nothing he could do.

Isabella fought hard out there, Edison had died just to come to save her, even Lirest was helped by Griffin they just met. Raymond found himself very pathetic. Everyone is trying, but only he is in this small prison and can do nothing. To be precise, he was too tired to take care of all the problems that were happening out there.

Little did he know, Cody had been conscious all along, he just didn't open his eyes. He heard all their conversations. When he opened his eyes, his face showed an unpredictable expression.

"Since when did you wake up?" Raymond asked when he saw Cody open his eyes. The timing was too coincidental as Barnes had just left. So he could tell that Cody was only pretending to faint.

Cody didn't answer.

"Is there nothing you want to talk to me about?"

"Who knows. There's so much I want to say and ask, but I don't know where to start." That was Cody's first answer.
