Chapter 21 – First Use of Dark Magic
[Unknown Skill activates automatically]
Griffin was confused by blue screen that appeared suddenly.
[Unknown skill strengthens the sealing spell]
[Sealing spell strengthened]
[The sealing spell begins to stop large-scale magic]
Unexpectedly, the strong wind began to subside. It quickly disappeared without a trace.
Right after the storm cleared, Isabella lost consciousness. Griffin quickly grabbed the girl and laid her on the ground.
"What happened just now?"
Griffin didn't know how he could stop Isabella's magic just now.
"'Unknown skill', what kind of passive skill is this?"
But no matter what, Griffin is glad that Isabella is okay. He immediately cast healing magic. Because even though Isabella is now fine, it doesn't mean that the effects of the magic just now disappeared completely. This girl must be experiencing some severe side effects. He can see from her very pale face.

The root armor that was encased in ice started to break apart. From inside, a nearly frozen Cody walked out.
"Damn, she really wants to kill me."
Cody looked at Isabella and Griffin. Even though he was angry, from the bottom of his heart he was happy that Isabella was still alive.
"Take good care of her." Cody said as he turned around.
"Where are you going?" Griffin immediately stopped Cody.
"Of course go help Boaren. Soon, Lirest will be ours."
"You think I'll let it be?"
Cody smiled condescendingly at the question.
"You think you can stop me? You three are even struggling just to survive my attacks. Now with only you, what can you do?"
Griffin stood up and walked forward.
"We won't know if we don't try."
Cody chuckled when he heard that.
"Then give it a try. Let's see what a lowly wizard like you can do."
[Cody activated skill "Root Armor" Level 3]

[Cody combines two skills into one.]
Combining skills, one way to strengthen magic by combining the use of two skills into one. Only people with great skill and experience can do it. This shows that Cody is very skilled at using his own skills.
A much sharper and larger mass of roots crawled towards Griffin.

[A large amount of Mana is used in the skill 'Flame Sword']
Griffin slashed at the roots that were coming towards him with the flame sword. Makes all the roots burn instantly. He immediately dodged to the side so as not to be hit by the burning roots aiming at him.
Even though the magic used was greater, activating the flame sword without a sword made the fire magic hotter and burned everything faster. Moreover, Griffin intentionally infused a large amount of mana knowing that roots were extremely tough.
"Aren't you pushing yourself too hard? I know your mana has been drained a lot from continuing to use skills from earlier."
Cody was silent. It was true that he had almost run out of mana. That's why he deliberately combined the two skills in order to kill Griffin immediately.
"You talk as if you still have a lot of mana. Putting such a large amount of mana into a powerful skill like that must be a huge drain on your own mana."
"Unfortunately, I still have a lot of mana left."

The flames within the flame sword became even bigger.
Cody was surprised to see the fire getting bigger.
"How much mana does that brat have?" Cody could only guess in his mind how much mana the man in front of him had. Even though Griffin doesn't look that strong, but his mana usage is on par with top-level wizards.
Griffin immediately lunged forward.
Cody quickly deployed a large amount of roots which instantly enveloped Griffin.
Srat srat srat
Griffin with a swift movement slashed at the roots that were coming towards him. But there were too many of them and they were starting to block Griffin's movements.
"I was indeed surprised to see your amount of mana is so large. But that won't change the fact that the difference in our power is vast. You low-level mage with that one skill won't be enough to beat me."
In an instant, the roots had completely enveloped Griffin in the shape of a huge spiked ball.
"It is over." Cody walked away. He was sure Griffin would not be able to get out and would soon die if he was in that magic.

BUUUM
Cody was startled and turned around when he heard a very loud bang.
Somehow, Griffin had crushed the mass of roots that had just spread out. And now, his body was covered in black and purple pools of mana.
"That is, dark magic?" Cody couldn't think of any other possibility when he saw the magic emitting from Griffin's body. Such a terrifying aura could only be created by dark magic.
The aura was purple black, the air was cold because of the magic emanating from the darkness, and the lands were shattered by the aura that continued to spread everywhere. And Griffin controlled that terrifying aura very casually.
"Why is a dark magic user like you helping Lirest? What do you want from this war?"
"No matter what I want, I will make sure my goals are better than you who want power for yourself at the expense of your brother and your homeland."
Cody became furious at the insult.
"Even if you use dark magic that doesn't mean you can stop me."
He pointed his hand forward, then an incomparably greater number of sharp roots sprouted from the ground and the wall. The entire room was almost full of Cody's magic roots.
"Dark magic, life eater."
The black aura around Griffin quickly spread to the roots that came his way. Every part of the root that was hit by the aura became scorched and destroyed by the dark magic.
"Impossible." Cody stared in disbelief. This was the first time he had seen dark magic, and he had just learned how dangerous this magic was.
The black auras headed for Cody very quickly.
"This is bad!"
[Cody activated skill "Root Armor" Level 3]
The root armor quickly wrapped around Cody's body, creating the same defense that protected him from Isabella's magic.
Sraak
Dark magic started to surround Cody and slowly crushed the roots that were harder than rock.
Within 5 seconds, all of those roots were destroyed, and the dark magic started eating away at Cody.
"Ah! What is this thing?!" Cody shouted as he struggled. He felt the aura begin to tear his body apart.
He started to roll on the ground, trying to endure the excruciating pain all over his body. No matter how hard he tried to get rid of that dark aura from his body, it was useless. The pool of energy continued to squirm in Cody's body.
"AAAAAAAKH!"
Cody released large amounts of green magic from his body. He was trying to destroy dark magic using his mana. With great effort mustering his strength, he stood up and tried to fight back.
BRAK
His efforts were in vain. An even bigger pool of dark energy came and wrapped around Cody's body, sending him crashing to the ground. The boy rolled back in the middle of the large room. His screams echoed throughout the place.
[Warning! Dark magic is starting to cause side effects.]
[Warning! Stop the dark magic immediately]
[Warning! Health points are starting to decrease drastically.]
Griffin looked at the screen that appeared in front of him.
"The side effects were quicker than I thought." Griffin tried to endure the pain in his body.
Dark Magic Knowledge gave Griffin knowledge about dark magic, so he knew that using dark magic would result in very severe side effects for the user. Especially if he directly use large-scale magic in the first use.
Even though Griffin's mana is very unique because it can create dark magic, that doesn't mean the side effects are gone.
Griffin was still emitting magic from his body. He was waiting for Cody to lose, otherwise he would use this magic in vain.
Less than a minute, Cody passed out.
"Stop."
From that one word, all the dark aura in the place stopped and quickly reentered Griffin's body.
"Haaahh ..., this is very tiring."
Griffin's vision became unclear. His body felt cold and powerless.
"Luckily the side effects weren't as bad as I thought."
Griffin felt himself lucky. Because within the knowledge he got from dark magic knowledge, users of dark magic would suffer extremely severe side effects even if they only used it for a short time. Most of the magicians who use it either die or go mad. Only magicians with certain talents and mana characteristics could use it without severe side effects. And apparently, Griffin is one of them.
