"Going to Las Vegas is partly because of Lily, right?" Anna asked with a knowing smile.

What should I say now? Malachi pondered. 

He wondered if he should be direct with his wife about what had really influenced him, which was David, or if he should insist it was because of the military base in Las Vegas he was after, which was also largely true.

Just as this thought ran through Malachi's head, he opened his mouth to speak. However, Malachi got interrupted by Anna.

"Seeing as you're taking a while to reply, I guess I'm right," Anna stated.

"That's not exactly why—" Malachi was about to speak when Anna addressed him again.

"It's okay, babe," she said with a smile and added, "If Lily is a reason you want to go to Las Vegas, then I'm sure it's because you're concerned about David. However, is this the right thing to do?"

"What do you mean?" Malachi asked, slightly confused.
