The wood air was clear, unlike the city, full of carbon dioxide and smog. The sun was setting, but the three were still looking for each other. Will had finally reached the origin of the river, it was at the bottom of a hill. The hill was tall, but it wouldn't take as much effort to climb as a mountain.

It was steep and slippery; about twenty feet high. He thought abut how he would climb it. The river flowed in between rocks and he thought about stepping on those, but he didn't know how far they sunk into the hill.

While he was spinning around thinking, he saw someone behind him. He couldn't recognize them, so he thought they were the security guard. Will had tried to scale the hill, but kept slipping. The person ran over and their face came into view. It was Eddie.

"Ed, how did you find me?" asked Will. "I wouldn't have if I didn't cross paths, I took a right initially." said Ed. There was a point on the hill that one of them put their hands in. "Can you give me a boost?" said Will. "Sure," said Eddie, squatting down and clasping his hands together.

"Thanks," said Will. He stepped onto Eddie's hands and reached for a point that he could grip. Once he grabbed the point, he grabbed a rock and pushed it into the damp hill, then pulled himself onto the top and stretched his hand down. "Grab my hand," said Will, reaching down to Eddie.

As he was pulling Eddie up, he saw someone running towards them. "Come on, push up!" said Will, tugging on Ed even harder. The person behind them stopped and put his hands forward. Then he fired two shots.

One bullet hit Eddie in the ankle and he fell forward. They rolled down the hill, and the water turned red. William picked Ed up and put his shoulder around his own neck. They started walking as Eddie was limping.

"Go in the woods," said Ed, as he was coughing up blood. The bullet was lodged in his ankle, he'd survive this shot if the bleeding stopped soon. The guard was trying to get up the hill, but he could only lean over, he couldn't get to the top completely.

He was looking at them from the other side of the hill. They were already in the woods, but Eddie was bleeding out slowly, so Will sat Ed against a tree and wrapped his jacket around Ed's ankle. He sat down next to Eddie; and watched the hill. The guard was slowly making progress, and it was only a matter of time before he got over it.

"Stay alive, Ed," said Will, putting his hand on Eddie's shoulder, trying to keep him comforted. "I don't know if I can do this anymore," Ed said. His head flopped over and lay there. Will felt his pulse.

His heart was beating slowly, but normally, like he was asleep. Then Will had an idea. He put a sleeve of his jacket over Eddie's eyes and waited. The guard then flopped over the hill and walked toward them. "This is it, isn't it?" asked Will. The guard aimed at Eddie and said, "Yes, it is,"; the guard pulled the trigger.

CLICK! There was no ammo. "Guess it is," said Will. He kicked the guard's ankle, and he tripped. The guard tried to get up, but Will hit him on the head with a rock and knocked him out. Then he got on top of him and snapped his neck. And the guard died. "That's 16," said Will, he was counting the people that died because of him. He picked up the gun and put it in Ed's lap. The guard had a roll of bandages in one of his pockets, probably for people who had hurt themselves on a hike. He wrapped the bandages around Eddie's ankle and waited.

Some minutes later…

Will picked Ed up and put his arm around his own neck again. "I'm good," said Eddie. He stuck his arm out and leaned against a tree. He was wobbly, but he could walk. "Let's go," said Eddie. He advanced to the front and Will followed.

They walked through endless forest, while looking over their shoulder every second. "You got a knife?" said Eddie, both of them walking at the same pace. Will pulled out a Swiss Army knife and the gun. He stroked them together and sparks flew. "Hey, prevent forest fires, man," said Ed. "Yeah, you're right," said Will, as he put the knife and gun away. "Let collect sticks as we walk. Once we find an open space, we place 'em down." said Eddie. Time went by and sticks were collected.

The night grew near, and rain fell. "Well, no fire now," said Will. The duo sat down and leaned against trees directly in front of each other.

"You see that?" said Eddie, pointing in the distance. A four-legged animal was coming closer towards them. "Yeah, looks like, a wolverine," said Will. "That's a superhero," said Eddie, not having the knowledge of animals that Will had, and he had never seen a wolverine before. "You just gonna stand there? Let's go!" said Eddie.

William stood up and started waving his arms and yelling. The wolverine acted like he was running at Will, but he changed direction and ran at Eddie. Eddie tried to move out the way and the wolverine barely grazed him with his claws.

The animal slid on the ground and Will didn't want to hit, but he knew he had to save Ed. The wolverine lunged at Eddie and it bit his shoulder. Eddie shook it off and its head hit the tree. Then Eddie got up and said, "What were you doing back there?"; "Making myself look bigger," said Will. "That doesn't work with every animal!" Eddie said. They ran, and the wolverine got up. It ran after them, desperately trying to catch them.

The animal lunged at Eddie and bit his ankle. The same ankle that got shot. Eddie fell to the ground and Will kicked the wolverine. The wolverine landed in the water of a stream that was coming from a mountain. He cried because he loved animals and he didn't want to kill the wolverine. The animal jumped at Eddie once more and bit his neck; it was so nimble that Will kept missing as he tried to hit it.

Eddie let out a cry of pain, and he stopped moving. Then Will took out his knife and jumped onto the wolverine. It filled him with so much rage that he couldn't stop himself. The wolverine clawed and screeched, but Will had it in his grasp. He put it in a chokehold and slit its throat. The animal lay dead, and William put it in the river that the fight occurred at, and it floated down the stream. The Will let out streams of tears. He never wanted to do that again.

Will walked over to Eddie and put his hand on his face. Eddie's eyes opened slightly, and he was trying to stand.

"Just sit down," said Will. Eddie fell down, and said, "I know you think I'll live. But we both know I'm dead. I can't move and I can't stand, so just leave." said Ed. "No, I'm staying," said Will. First Sam, and now Eddie. Why did this have to happen again? Eddie's eyes were losing life slowly and slowly. "Don't leave, Ed, don't leave," William's emotions grew stronger, as did his tears.

"Goodbye Eddie," William said slowly, while looked into Eddie's lifeless eyes. Ed's body grew lifeless, and he died in William's arms. Through these last few days, Will's heart grew colder and colder. From this moment on he vowed to show no remorse, and to always shoot first. "NOOOO!" cried Will. Tears of sadness and rage ran down his face. The laws he once abided by were now the ones to be broken, as he became… SOUL-LESS.
