Atticus eyed Hazelle for a moment before he nodded, deciding that it was no harm. What could a small, weak woman like her do in the face of a king who could topple kingdoms with the wave of a hand?

He wanted to find Daphne as quickly as possible. He had important news to tell her. 

"After you then, Duchess," Atticus said politely, but Hazelle flinched at the implied insult.

The way her title rolled off his tongue felt just every bit as mocking as he no doubt intended. Hazelle gritted her teeth, desperately controlling her anger. 

King Atticus would lose every bit of his arrogance soon enough, once everyone saw what a harlot his wife was. Drusilla had succeeded in the drugging, so it was only a matter of time before Alistair would regain his position as the crown prince.
