Heading Back

Daemon hopped onto the stranger's back, wrapping his hands and legs around him. In order for them to escape, Daemon had to transfer energy into the stranger's fingers to allow them to grip the walls better and climb out of the ravine. This ability was one he had practiced extensively with the researchers. He had a sort of latent energy that would be stored in his body that he could control. One of the ways he could control it was by transferring it to a part of anything he was touching.

An important note is that this energy was able to take the form of almost anything he desired. In this case, he would transform the energy to allow for stronger muscle contractions in the stranger's fingers as well as greater resilience to handle the constant gripping on the rock.

While on his back, Daemon took a breath and relaxed. He felt a warm feeling within his body and instinctively guided it along his hand. He could feel the warmth slowly traverse through his arm and into the stranger's back, he guided it to the stranger's fingers and transformed it to strengthen and protect it.

The stranger didn't feel anything. He only realized it was finished when Daemon noted "You can start climbing now".

He still harbored some doubt that this would work but considering there was no other option he decided to go along with it. Clenching and unclenching his fists, he could strangely feel the strength and power in his grip that he hadn't felt before. Placing his hands onto the smooth wall, he pressed in and found his fingers had actually managed to indent into the rock, giving him a solid grip that would allow him to climb.

"Impressive" He muttered, even he could realize the incredible versatility it had.

"I know right?" Daemon cheekily grinned.

"Humph let's see if we can even get all the way up first"

The stranger started climbing, slowly moving one hand over the other.

Daemon was actually quite light at around 50 kilograms, a weight an enhanced human like the stranger could easily carry. The stranger started picking up the pace as he grew more confident at the ability.

"How long will this ability thing of yours last?"

"I have a lot of this energy so it'll probably last a long time, but if I let go the energy will disappear from you" Daemon replied.

The stranger continued, above him, the stars illuminated the night sky and set a hopeful mood. Daemon stared above while on the stranger's back. The scene to him represented hope and an ever large galaxy full of mysteries and wonder ready to be explored. To the stranger, however, it just reminded him of the times he traveled in space with his last and only partner Reggie.

They climbed in silence, the barren environment gave off no ambient noise at all. The stranger and Daemon were only preoccupied with their own thoughts.

Eventually, the stranger's hand gripped the very edge of the cliff. He hoisted himself up and Daemon jumped off his back onto the rough terrain full of rocks and pebbles.

Daemon smiled, it had been the first time in his life he stood on the surface of this planet. In fact, it was the first time on any planet. He spent his entire life being kept in the underground research base, and now standing free on the surface wiped away any sense of imprisonment within him. This was a new chapter in his life and he was ready to make the most of it.

"Where's your ship?" He asked the stranger who was dusting off the dirt and dust accumulated during the climb.

"Approximately 30 kilometers away, it's located in a safe zone where seismic shifts aren't as severe"

The stranger double-checked his gear and tightened his belt.

"Let's go," he remarked and started walking in a direction.

"I can't wait!" Daemon cheered.

They trudged along, occasionally stepping on medium-sized pebbles. Daemon almost rolled his ankles multiple times. They walked for hours under the night sky. There was no moon on the planet, so no external light obstructed the view of the stars above, making them more pronounced against the black canvas that was space.

Eventually, the orange sun rose on the horizon in front of them. The glaring light that directly shone in front of them forced them to walk while covering their eyes for a few hours. They couldn't even witness the beauty of the sunset.

After walking entirely in silence, Daemon decided to strike up a conversation.

"I noticed the blood on the creature. It seemed to make you angry. You also seem to be lacking some essential supplies. Was that your partner" he cautiously remarked. While he knew it was a touchy subject, Daemon thought it might be able to help them connect and understand each other better.

The stranger paused, which made Daemon who was a few meters behind him also pause. The stranger seemed to think for a few moments, what he was contemplating was a mystery to Daemon.

"Shut it, we need to make it back to our ship before another seismic shift occurs, I need to get off this planet as quickly as possible" He emotionlessly replied.

'I thought wrong huh'

They continued on their way, the only common sight being an endless view of orange dirt and rocks.

After a few more hours, a large metal construct appeared in their view.

"Is that it?" Daemon asked.

"Yea" The stranger replied.
