Against the Guard

While the Captain was gone, Dae was stuck in the vessel. Bummed out by the fact that in this situation he couldn't do much and had to be protected, his pride as someone who could do supernatural things had been hurt.

The Captain was probably heading back into the danger while he was left twiddling his thumbs inside the space vessel.

As some time passed, he heard loud ballistic shots ring from the main hall. The sounds were incredibly loud and explosive, to which Dae was worried about the Captain's safety.

'There must be some way I can help him!' He thought.

He quickly threw away any ideas of trying to fight with weapons. Understanding the fact that he had no training and would likely just hurt himself trying to use it.

Dae rummaged through the compartments at the back, and while some of the deeper, larger ones were locked, the closer ones were not, one of them opening up to reveal a ballistic rifle as well as several different sized magazines.

It was pretty big and he was tempted to try it out but closed the compartment instead, looking for a better option.

He searched all the compartments but he couldn't find any weapon to use.

BOOM BOOM BOOM

A cascade of loud booming shorts bellowed from the main sections. Dae was panicking, he couldn't find any weapon and those shots were far too powerful for a human to take.

Eventually, his eyes laid upon a large sheet of scrap metal. It looked identical to the plating that covered the vessel's exterior. An idea formed in Dae's head.

'What if I use it as a shield?' He thought.

The plate was a bit larger than his torso and could cover his entire body if he crouched a bit. He moved some every to his fingers to strengthen them and used them to make deep indents on one side of the plate. He would use them to properly hold the plate.

His idea was to used all his energy to strengthen the shield and stop any incoming shots. Considering the power of the shots based on their sound, he would have to use all his energy and it wouldn't even last very long, but it would likely give enough time for The Captain to fight back. Essentially, he was setting himself to be the distraction.

Grabbing the shield by its indents, he jumped off the vessel onto the Arm platform and started running towards the main hall. The plate itself was quite heavy so Dae ended up heaving it through. As he approached the open sliding door, the giant bot blasting the reception counter came into view.

His perception, finally within the range of the battle, allowed him to sense the Captain behind the counter. Fortunately, it seemed as if he wasn't injured, but a quick glance at the structure of the counter itself revealed it was about to crumble any second.

At this point, despite the size of the giant bot, Dae had faith that the Captain could strike back. The Captain had shown remarkable skill, speed, and quick thinking, and Dae was banking on that to get them out of the situation.

He immediately shouted at the giant bot.

"Hey over here!"

The reception turned towards the commotion, finding a teenager with a large shield shouting at her. Seeing the shield he laughed in contempt.

"You really think that is enough to save you?! Are you mocking me!"

She slowly turned the body of the guard bot to face Dae, stopping when it was directly facing him.

The Captain hearing the conversation and the moving guard bot peeks above the ruined counter only to see the huge rifles aim onto Dae.

"NOO" He shouts but before he could move, the receptionist fires a shot.

At this point, Dae is slightly shaking. The intimidating bot towers above him, but he steels his resolve. He transfers all his energy into the shield.

A peculiar aspect of his power is the way it is consumed. He is able to transfer it anywhere on his body or anything constantly in contact with his body. It is not consumed until it has been interacted with. For example, when he transferred his energy into the Captian's fingertips when escaping the ravine, the act of transferring and the strengthening did not consume his powers, but when the Captain starting using his fingertips to climb. The interaction of the surface with his fingertips, both with the energy reducing the harm on the fingertips and in the contraction of the strengthened muscles, consumed it.

In this scenario, Dae moved all his energy into the shield.

Shot instantly smashes into the shield, but instead of burning a shot and blasting Dae's body into bits, it ricochets away. A portion of Dae's energy, around a third, is instantly consumed, leaving his body tired.

The receptionist just looks on dumbfounded. She could easily recognize the shield as a cheap external plating for space ships, yet it should have completely blown away by her large rounds. She eventually comes to the conclusion that there is some other factor.

"Huh, so this is what you found" She marveled. Whatever it is, this kid has got something to with this ridiculous scene.

She turns the guard bot back to the counter, but there was no sign of the Captain.

The Captain, while the receptionist was preoccupied with understanding what had just happened, had run to the underside of the bot. He inspected the reverse joints. The back of the joint was unprotected, with a number of wires as well as internal mechanical parts exposed. He shot a laser at them, instantly cropping the leg.

The guard bot fell to its side, its body smashing onto the ground.

"OW!" The receptionist scream as she was thrown around inside.

With the guard bot on the ground, its back reveals a locking mechanism controlled with a secpad. The Captain shot a laser at it instantly frying it and causing the hatch to unlock, revealing the receptionist in a mangled position. As soon as she saw the Captain staring down at her with his laser pistol pointed at her she immediately stammered, waving her hands in front of her in defeat.

"Plea-please don't kill me!"
