Chapter 13

An hour had passed after Drake reunited with his sister.

Drake didn't have any slightest intention to help the survivors. But his sister insisted on bringing them along.

Drake having no choice but to agree with his sister.

If it's reasonable, he never really rejects any of his sister's requests.

Like the old professor said, they headed to the gymnasium.

As for the two who got brutally beaten up by Drake, they were given first aid by the other students after being directed by the old professor.

She serves as the temporary leader of the group.

Drake stayed at the gymnasium together with the group of survivors he inadvertently saved on the 7th floor with his sister.

Drake was actually also kind of mentally exhausted after that strenuous battle. Furthermore, he severely lacked sleep for the past several days already.

So after they made it to the gymnasium, he and his sister needed to catch on some sleep. Not until he tasked the baby dragon to watch over them for any potential dangers.

Drake woke up after five hours of rest. It was dark as the sun almost set. He didn't know what time exactly it was, but he guessed it was around 6 pm in the evening already.

Charlie was still out cold and Carlo was too afraid to go anywhere near Drake, just like everyone in the group.

Earlier, while Drake escorts the survivors out of the building. What they witnessed on their way, made a chill crawl on their spine.

Piles of zombie's corpses lay around on the floors, it's either headless or a corpse with a blasted head.

Although they have a hard time believing it was anything related to Drake, the fact that Drake made it on the 7th floor to rescue his sister was undeniable.

Making the students avoid Drake and just remained in their own little corner, while some formed a group seeking comfort in each other.

Drake glanced at his side where his sister is. She was still sleeping by his side, curled in a fetal position.

Her sleeping face creased up, likely from having unpleasant dreams.

Drake places his hand on his sister's head , rhythmically caressing it, and it works. Her face now eased up as she continued her sleep.

It was already getting dark but no one turned on the light of the building, afraid that it might attract trouble.

Some students in the group turn on the flash of their phone.

The signal was cut off after the system descended, so they can't contact anyone outside nor check if their loved ones are alright. That's why, only the offline and basic application was usable on their phone at this moment.

Time goes by slowly and Drake decides to see his stat window, remembering that he still has 15 free stat to distribute after gaining another three levels.

Although Drake knows that mana is one of the most important factors in this new world, he ignores it for now.  He keeps his physical stats balanced, as he still doesn't have any skill he can use to spend mana on.

After Drake finished settling his stats window, he closed his eyes as he began thinking about his future plans based on the incoming events while waiting for his sister to wake up.

Not until two hours passed that his sister woke up.

After regaining consciousness, Jessica slowly sat up and looked around, confused. She rubs her eyes to confirm that what she was seeing was real.

It was the same scene. It was dark with only a few phones with flash keeping the surroundings not to be consumed by total darkness.

"So it was real…" Jessica murmured as despair was slowly encroaching her mind.

But then, she suddenly felt a hand touching her shoulder. At first she creeped out due to her dimmed surroundings and her earlier encounters with zombies that seemed to come straight from a horror movie.

Jessica hastily slapped the hand away that touched her, as she nervously looked at where its source was coming from.

Her heart was beating so fast, but when she saw who it was, Jessica  placed her hand on her chest as she heaved a sigh of relief, calming herself down.

"It's you Drake! Good god, you frightened me." Jessica said as she sighs again.

"Well, you seem troubled by something. So I was just about to ask you and see if I can offer some help." Drake explained to his sister.

Jessica looked at her brother with complicated looks and replied.

"I…what is going on? Where did those zombies come from? Is our world really coming to an end? What will now happen to us in the future ? Drake, I don't want us to be apart. Just thinking about it makes me scared."

Hearing her barrage of questions,  Drake was about to comfort his sister but got interrupted by Jessica's growling stomach.

Drake then realized that everyone here hadn't eaten anything since this morning as they were busy running for their lives from those bloodthirsty zombies.

Jessica embarrassingly rubs her belly and says. "I only have a few light meals this morning so…"

Jessica explained but Drake interrupted her, he stood up and patted his bottom, dusting it off.

"Wait here, I will get us something to eat. Do you have anything you prefer?"

"Hot soup?" Jessica blurted out after Drake's questions. But then realize something else.

"Wait, how would you get the food? You aren't thinking of going outside are you?" She stared at Drake disapprovingly.

"No, I'll get it from my magic pocket." Drake said it with a straight face and serious tone.

Jessica rolled her eyes at him, not believing Drake at all.

Well Jessica is only half right. While Drake might go outside, he really would get it from his magic pocket. A.k.a his own Doraemon, none other than Betelgeuse the almighty dragon.

"Don't worry sis, haven't you seen those things I've left on the way just to save you? And besides, I'm also getting hungry."

Jessica remembered seeing a bunch of headless corpses strewn on the school building floors but didn't completely believe it was all done by Drake.

She remained silent and only stare at Drake with a complex look on her face.

When the two siblings are conversing, while the others know that the two were having a conversation, they can't make out what they're saying since they were on the opposite side of the court away from the two.

But one person heard it all– Katie.

She was now quite hated by the rest of the group after what happened earlier, hence she was cast out from the rest with no one wanting to talk with her.

Earlier when they arrived at the gymnasium, everyone else formed a circle to accompany each other. Katie was excluded from it, giving her a cold gaze when she was about to sit with them.

Katie, with a normal EQ can guess from their subtle expression that she was being cast out from the group.

With her being too awkward to stay any longer with them, she chose to sit near the siblings who voluntarily exclude themselves from the rest of the survivors.

When she thinks about it, being near the two makes her feel a lot safer.

Especially when she looks at Drake, who looks so manly before when he beats up the two rogues earlier.

After sitting near them, she watched the two fall asleep and she also felt sleepy. She slept but woke up earlier than the two.

With nothing to do, she played with her phone that luckily didn't drop from her uniform's pocket together with her earphones  from the chaos earlier.

The time passes by unbearably slow for her until it gets dark. Various thoughts filled up her mind but hunger particularly consumed half of it.

She actually has a bigger appetite despite not particularly looking fat. She had a rather slim body that was hidden beneath her slightly loose uniform. Unlike her other classmates that choose to show off their body as much as they can, by dressing so fit that it looks rather uncomfortable to move.

Katie wasn't like that, she didn't care about anyone and pleases no one, hence she doesn't care much about her looks. But it doesn't mean she was ugly. She is rather a beauty on her own rights even by not putting any effort to dress up just to look pretty.

With nothing to do, she plugs her earphones to her ear. Listening to the songs she downloaded to distract her mind. Until her attention was caught by the siblings, after professor Jessica woke up.

She removed the earphones from her ear and intently listened to their conversation. Her expression changes when the conversation shifts to the food, her stomach grumbles. Katie heard that Drake would get food.

With hunger dominating her mind, she steeled up herself to accompany Drake outside on getting food despite the danger. She knew that Drake wouldn't be so charitable as to give the group a share of food he would be getting outside. Even less likely to her.

Katie saw Drake getting up and she also stand up, slowly walks towards Drake.

"Alright, just stay here sis. I'll be back with the food real quick."

Drake turned around and started to walk, but just as he made his 8th steps, he heard a voice stopping him from behind. which prompted him to halt.

He turned around and saw a fidgety girl wanting to say something. Drake didn't say anything and waited for the girl to open her mouth and say something.

"Uhh..I… please let me come with you." She looks nervous while saying that.

"I also…want to get food." She added with barely audible voice.

When Drake heard this, he remained silent for a few seconds, only staring at her.

 "No"

Drake replied, as he walked away without turning back.
