3 Chapter 2: First Fight

{ Gaia Colony }

~[ 14 DAYS LATER ]~

In open field inside the base 400 meter from Command Centre and just behind the barracks.Burst gun shot could be hurt across the colony base. The target made out of wood obliterated to pieces. Thousand of bullet casing and crater still having a black smoke could be seen across the field. The olive green colour powered armor suit with its golden visor in the middle in the center seems to be doing some kind of training.

" *Deep Breaths* Siri status report" taking a small break after intense shooting training.

"Congratulations sir, you have managed to gain a score of 79% of total evaluation. Compared to the last couple of days prior. The significant improvement has been made." Say in a female robotic voice in real life Apple AI Siri.

It is almost 2 weeks since the second day I arrived. Right after I utter cursed world, I immediately order full repair to the base and begin building more SCV to speed up the process.SCV or Space Construction Vehicle a behemoth bipedal robot standing at 5 METER tall or twice the size of Marine armor. Apparently the cost is the same as the game. No minor change due to being real life like thousands of minerals or something.Each unit cost 25 minerals and I ordered them 50 more.Takes 30 minutes to build one.

With abundant of supply in earlier stage I have due to reward quest as head start. Building more of them are not a problem.Appearently is not just the building and structure needs to be fix but even some minor detail like road,hospital and minor factory and assembly line related to civilians sector.Hell even public toilet needs some of my already spreading thin man power intentions.The cost is pretty much overwhelming. Thus the repair effort takes a while since I didn't have a mean to resupply yet that day.

But I need give more room for expansion so more of the future structure could be build.I also building more Missiles turret and other defensive mechanism around the colony just to give peace of mind a little bit.I have a vision how to make my current main base look like. It is kind of similar to Bridgehead base from avatar but smaller. Since that base is designed to housing 2 million personnel instead of 100,000.Also there is no coast side as our colony located in deep continent or landmass surrounded by alien dense forest.By the way I learn from Siri this colony name after earth in Roman word GAIA. (Correct me if I'm wrong hihi.)

Right now I'm focusing on building infantry like marine and troopers as they are being trained and suit up to increase the number of army to increasing coveringand reach to defend my base. Even the factory chuck up some of the APC and another unit such as vulture hoverbike for scouts and helion for multi purpose use.Just the name only but I customise vehicle to be similar to Halo warthogs.So the vehicle are perfect combo with Dominion Troopers.

The Helion also can be customised easily depending on mission requirements.So at first batch would be expensive but it totally worth it as the design was battle proven.Unlike the game, the production and assembly still slow despite the buff I have or even with advanced automated technology. Imagine the system didn't give this buff and how got damn single CMC will times take to produce.

The Dominion Troopers are the cheapest costing at 15 minerals including the weapon they carried. While the APC cost 250 minerals while other units I mention cost the same as the game.There are different as there are at least 2 options here. For starters marines have 2 variants depending on the armor type.

The CMC 300 is cheaper at 50 minerals while the CMC 400 is at a cost of 75 minerals. Same applies to APC and the future unit if I'm guessing right.Ok how about another basic unit called medic. I couldn't because it locked behind the quest which is after the current quest finishes. Pretty great right.

This is because to protect and escort the SCV for mining the resource I desperately needed. While the mining locations are not that far but still a high risk. Located southeast from main base around 23 km away.Thanks the order I gave on 2nd day, the scout found a lot of mineral and vespene gas reserves capable of substance the colony for a long time.

The construction effort happened on the 3rd day SCV began the mining process. The refinery almost finished on the same day thanks to more advanced technology and probably due to buff I received.This activity continues for 13 days and manages to gather resources at 25,325 mineral and 19,890 vespene gas.Usualy the yeild is a lot but I use those resources to speed up repair effort thus the actual amount I suppose to have is small.For your note. All kinds of minerals found are treated as single unit.Meaning all types of metal be I'm familiar with or alien metal like vibranium something are the same.

It applies to vespene gas as oil,natural gas, hydrogen or maybe terrozime are counted as one unit.As a result I'm pushing all the upgrades and build more facilities I could access for now.This including building more civilian type like bio dome for farming and herding.Of course the main quest to fixing the base still in progress as I expected to finish this week.Almost a week this little base has turn into proper city state for a bit.

My short term goal is to access flying units especially for transport ship and air support as a minor goal.But currently the repair effort negligence for a moment for more important asset.Did I mention repair and construction is different? Buff only applied to build more units but not repair. It takes 3 hours for SCV to repair a single bunker with and another 6 hours for supply deport.Those repair only for minor damage.Imagine if another more complex building takes with critical condition. Furthermore, it was exhausting my resources pretty fast. This is almost realistic to me thus so far.

About the internal affair like food, medicine etc, I leave them to expert as I need to focus maximise the military affair first.This is StarCraft game not Civilization V.Those research takes more than a couple of weeks to finish if not I already have a battle cruiser fleets at this point if we use direct game logic.

Why you ask I'm doing this in a hurry? Because this god damn planet is too hostile for beginners who are yet not have space capable ships to live here let alone crash down.This is related to attack prior to my arrival. The colony are in almost dire state that needs to be fixed ASAP.Before I'm continuing the self monologue, a report comes in through com link on my armor.

"Patch them up Siri" as I anticipate something might happen

"This is captain Nasrul.Our mining and refinery facilities in Outpost Alpha-01 are under attack by new hostile animals. It looks like a swarm of legless serpent like beast spitting from it's splinted mandible mouth with some kind needle projectile capable piercing even the heavy CMC suit with few shots.Those things manage to overpower our defensive turret and damaging the wall. Light Troopers are having the highest casualties with many more marine begin fall. Requesting reinforcement from the main base over." With people screaming and huge small explosions could be heard through the communications. The sound of hissing and growling are among the chaos.

"Hold on tight lieutenant, reinforcement incoming ETA 40 minutes. Marshall out over. Siri patch me up with lieutenant Takeru and ready his man and come with me for the task. Notify Commander Raynor for the next batch of marine and troopers to be ready the next day and make sure the base is well protected while we leave. Plus monitor and report the construction effort for the next military sector structure such as factory ,armory and research facilities. For current affairs of the civilian sector, leave them to the Agriculture, construction team and other agencies for food stock and logistics production and expansion plans." As I prepare to leave the best.

I need to fight in frontline to gain some experience. Realist I'm ought to be at least that what I think about myself. I'm still scared sh1tless even wearing the strongest armor in the universe. Why not just leave everything to more experienced commanders like James Eugene Raynor and enjoy your life as a fat and alcoholic bad womaniser politician most could become one day. Because this is demonic [SYSTEM] forcing me to do so.

At first the warning was issue but I'm ignoring it. But the 2nd warning appears but this time with electric shock through my vein paralysis me for hours.Since that day I realised this parasite could kill me anyday anyway.This is why I have some training not just too familiar with the armor and shooting skill. But also to avoid getting painful punishments.

Sorry but I'm not living in the US where you have the highest chance to use a gun in the whole world probably. Thanks to my augmented nature, the training is faster than I anticipated. After a few minutes arming myself with C-14 Gauss Rifle,a Lvl 3 ballistic on my left shoulder and couple of hand grenade.I meet the 2st lieutenant Takeru or his full named Shirogane Takeru.

Yep another named main character but this time from another franchise Muv-Luv. To be honest I'm surprised because this super dense cry baby is under my command let alone exist in this universe. Although I currently just speculate, there is one thing I'm certain of about this planet.

"Marshall Jean Razak sir, 2st lieutenant Shirogane Takeru report for duty. Sir it is the honor to fight under your command sir. Let's take the fight against the alien" said confidently but smiling just like the original would do.Wearing CMC 400 variant with grey colour.There are the Valkyrie symbols on his left shoulder.On his right side there are the shield as result of Lvl 3 armor upgrade.Its not I know he's smiling behind the visor tho.

"At ease 2st lieutenant. Remember this is alien world and who knows how fierce those things are.Anyway I believe have briefed earlier about the attack.The designated target Hyralisk numbering to 200.Now let's go" as Takeru leads me to meet platoons of 52 people.

40 Dominion Troopers armed with heavy duty and fire suppression weapon and 12 marine including Takeru. Then we head straight to the mining base with several standard and military APC carrying marine accompanied by couple of Helions carry the troopers.We brought some spare just incase we need to transport wounded soldier.

Truly inconvenient and pain in the ass without medics.As We're getting closer, a sound of gunfire and explosion could be heard kilometer away.Disembark from vehicle, ordering my men to open fire from behind that group of serpent thing for suppression fire.We setting on higher ground for better vision and defensive in nature.

Both marine with C-14 and 2 APC also open fire with its Auto Cannon and grenade launcher for enchance firepower. The Helion and remaining APC are maneuvering to flank the main enemy from the left side to help the base defenders. Thus it already separates upon hearing gunshot.This Helion armed with laser weapon strong enough to burn thick plate of steel and have great range compared to small arms standard. Only 2 equip with those weapons.

Boom..!* Boom..!* Boom..!*

Ta..!? Ta..!? Ta..!? Ta..!?

Pew..!* Pew..!* Pew..!*

"Lieutenant, take your man to cover our flank at your 3 and 9 o'clock.I take the frontline myself." I said with a stern voice.

"Aye-aye sir. You have your orders. Move move" as he and his men sprint to left and right side to make sure there is no surprise attack.

The horde Infront used to focus attacking the base have now noticed us and divert some of its numbers heading towards us. Around 60 hydralisk running or sliding with its snake-like movement. Unlike the zerg swarm version, these enemies are not organised and have bigger and more tougher carapace as exchange but with grey colour instead. While we are shooting at a range of 1000 meters thus cutting off their number to 32 before entering the needle effective range at 200 meters.

"Sh1t sh1t sh1t... Everybody takes cover" as I take cover behind huge rock barely avoid the needle from hitting my shoulder. All of them taking cover behind a rock, tree and some in 1.5 meter deep hole.The APC has taken some damage and all weapons have been disabled.

"Lieutenant,throw a grenade with me on count 1,2,3 now....!?" As each of us throws a grenade totally in number 13. Killing another 10 before entering a close combat situation. Everybody has activated bayonet mode ready to strap the incoming hostile forces.

"Sir permission to engage them head on alone while you and others finish them on the left side sir while they occupy."

"Permission denied. I cover for you. Lance Corporal,lead your squad and try to sneak attack them from behind. The Marines follow him. Attack when I give the signal" as the rest follow my order and move as intended. They separated into 2 teams with each 5 members.

CHANGE POV

2st lieutenant Shirogane Takeru, a young reckless young man eager to prove himself. While he seems full of himself but he is lucky enough to get the blessing of talent for combat. He is a good soldier as most of his peer couldn't come close to him. While during the training inside the CMC suit, he has the highest record for simulation. Thus making him capable of using the suit to its full potential.The biggest achievement he gets is getting was being youngest officer and put into combat after graduation on this colony. Right now he is doing the maneuver and movement impossible for a normal man could do.

"Take this you ugly snake" bashing the hydralisk straight to the face with his ballistic shield,knocking it off and finishing it with by stomping with his heavy combat suit boot.With help of his power armor, he easily killed them with ease.

Blood splattered as even with tough skin couldn't help them survive heavy pressure instantly. With one hand his aiming the rifle one of the hydralisk head and spray them with 8mm bullet on burst shot. There others Hydralisk did stand idle and try to attack him with a scythe-like hand. With a fast reaction he managed to dodge with his only shoulder damage.

"Oh no you don't." As those scythe hands blow to pieces and the hydralisk growl in pain. Then the last short to finish it for good.He killed another one who open it's splinted mouth or mandible ready to throw that needle projectile but he managed to prevent that by firing with his rifle full auto before the clips were empty.Without a mean to attack at range, he switch to bayonet mode at stab some of the alien who are close enough.

While the Marshalls are fighting his own battle as he uses burst shot to kill 2 hydralisk instantly with accurate shoot with great stability.Unlike Takeru reckless manuver, Razak fight on save distance and cool headed and only engage melee only to conserve ammo. Without realising, these 2 brave men are surrounded.Armed only with ballistic shields and rifle bayonets ready to fight in brutal close combat as last resort.

"This is bad sir. Argh... We are surrounded. Maybe this is the bad day to die sir haha" as he laughed as to distract him from the pain in the shoulder with a joke.

"That was I thought.Pretty reckless aren't you Lieutenant, cover your eyes." As soon said those words, dozens of flash bangs are thrown to the ground blinding those serpents making them temporarily stop moving. All marine that manage sneaking around begin to shoot with single shot mode to avoid friendly fire. After a couple of seconds all hostile are dead.

"Hostile force has been eliminated. Clear?" One of the leading marines tries to confirm the situation.

"Clear sir"

"Same here"

"Sir it seems the enemy has retreated from the mining base. The reinforcement we sent managed to arrive on time sir"

"Good, you ok Lieutenant? Of course you are not. The Marine brings him back to the infirmary immediately. The rest come with me to the mining base to further confirmation"

"But sir I still can move. Ouch hey stop that" as he shakes off from the marine touching his injured shoulder.

"Sorry but my order is absolute. Go meet Commander Raynor to write a full report about your recklessness. Dismiss"

"But sir" and the Marshall leave him and the marine alone. He then rode one of the APC and headed straight to the main base

"Sorry sir but I couldn't help ya." As senior,he tries to comfort Takeru.

"Shut up" his mood is not getting better this day. How much he hates writing reports and paper work related. This is his job as officers so nothing he could do besides complain silently.

Change to Jean Razak POV

"(Phew.... Welp, here we goes my very first battle and killed. Thank god for augmented or I'm paralysed as sh1tless for real)" as I give a silent break I have in my entire life.

During the battle,somehow my mind is calm as ocean but strike like seasoned warrior. With only weeks crash course, some how I manage to become elite soldier for a moment.I immediately stop thinking what happen and move forwards for now.

After sending that boy return to base, I'm heading to the mining facility by walking. Upon arrival,I see a huge after battle damage and corpse both allies and enemies.A lot of needles could be seen on those walls and fortification building.Even the thick armor plate of the bunker and wall couldn't survive such an onslaught.

Some even penetrated it deep inside the structure.I also noticed some other creature that are not Zerg Hydralisk. But the corpse are in state to be clearly to be identified.The clean up procedure seems to have begun a minute ago as surviving members do their duty.One of the Troopers noticed my present and saluted me.

"Marshall sir,thanks for the reinforcement. To think you are leading the platoon yourself is quite"

"Cut the pleasantry, I want to know what is going on. Why is the hydralisk attacking us"

"Hydra what? Cough* as you can see, we are just doing our job until we hear some loud roar. The local animal seems running away and heading towards our base at the front door. Never seen something like this for decades. Then that thing appears.It happened days ago before the attack" As he shivering as he tries to describe the event.

"That thing? You mean the zerg queen right? Did you guys get infected.Also why you didn't report to me something important" As I pressed the matter further. Try to get confirmation that this infact Zerg occupation world.Plus I'm beginning to understand that this NPC acts more like a human these days as I live among them longer each day.Yep on earlier week these guy looks like GTA or RDR2 NPC.

"It's not a queen that leads them but some kind of Alpha pack.At astonishing height of 4 meter with 6 limbs.The 2 main limb are black scythe capable slicing Marine armor with ease.Some times we observed them fighting another hostile animal we usually encounter even though it outnumbered them by 10 to 1. But in the end because of the alpha they managed to subdued them.Even though they were fighting too close to our base we ignored them because it still did not hinder our operation.Most of the time they mind their own business.We make a conclusion it's just animal fighting for territory and nothing interesting to report to the command centre" as he begin to be guilty by the minute he is talking

"But now those animals decide to attack now. Why again? I'm asking your soldier" with more firms voice as ask the troopers again. I'm not angry and definitely not.

"I think it decides to attack because of the food we cook prior to the day. We have a little feast to celebrate old customs on earth of one of the group's crew members piloting the SCV.The smells must be attracting them. Yes definitely"

"Anything interesting should I know a soldier"

"First we are not infected with any kind of alien virus. Second the serpent thing you called Hydralisk? Begin to consume their own kind to become stronger. At first we managed to kill the alpha with ease with the combined fire power of our arsenal and Gauss rifle from Maine.Even with Gauss cannon from the APC and managed to kill most of the pact especially that Alpha.It all changed when those behind consuming the alpha carcass and mutated to become bigger and stronger. At first it was a mix of purple and light pink colour but changed into grey metallic we seen right now.Even the corpse been recycled to improve the surviving pack member.Sir"

"(Evolving? Great now I know what we are dealing with.At least we are not dealing with resident evil on steroids in space. But those things can be nasty too if we leave them alone.) Hmm?" The notification from the system appears once again after a week of hiatus. And yes finally I can put my mind at ease as my speculation came true.
